Great video, just bought an fg turbo xr6. The mechanics at work all said if you see a good one buy it. The 10 mm sockets would go missing in the xd days ,everything was 10mm.
This video is a timely find. Just checked my service records, and find that I have had the current spark plugs and coil packs for 150 000km! New coil packs and plugs on the way.
Just changed them couple months ago ..had 1 possibly fail so went back to genuine Ford.... We're fine at 490 rwkw ..changed them as maintenance before I turned it up to 565 rwkw
All B series & FG series ive had, i always replace the stock earth strap with thumb thick wire (dunno the guage), i'll put one in the original spot & run one off the head to LH strut tower, and especially on ZF equipped cars, an earth strap on the back of the gearbox. On my BF XR8- obviously 2 straps on the heads
@@eksnay Had an F6 Tornado, had issue with it changing from 2-1 when coming to a stop; once i put the earth strap on the ZF, it fixed it. Anecdotal evidence, but I've always thrown extra straps on every car i ever owned and radio/ speakers always sound better, a lot less RF noise in engine bay, and car just "seems" to go better
I wouldn't mind seeing how that's done exactly. I've been looking into a rough idle for ages and at this stage I think it's electrical related. I had the battery moved to the boot and a new car alarm installed around the same time and it happened soon afterwards. I've replaced the plugs and coils twice since then and still have the same problem.
@@davidcisme1615 Is the battery earth put onto solid metal, not just like the thin boot metal? I would put a bit bigger earth on the battery to body, and throw a thicker gauge strap where the stock engine one is & another from the head to shock tower (should only cost $50 at most). Also make sure the power is run direct as can be (from battery straight to the starter, and take power from starter to the engine fuse block). If the wires are too thick, it can also cause lower voltage due to the size of it, which can also cause lower power at the coils. Edit: Also make sure the installers have tightened all the new stuff down properly too- easiest thing to check
Great vid Kev👌👌👌 I’d like to know how you get away with working on the car in a white jumper? If I did that it would be straight in the bin afterwards 🤣 Just goes to show how clean the jet is👌
The only other important thing that you should do every time you replace anything to do with electrical then disconnect the battery I have seen people spark onto something they were replacing that was electrical and it caused a lot of problems. They had problems from the ECU to the ICC even both of them had been damaged for the 30 seconds it takes always disconnect the positive then negative and when connecting again negative then positive and have everything turned on aircon full lights foot on the brake and some load on the power steering and you can either let it idle or what I do which seems to work the best is hold the revs at 2000rpm and after 30-45 seconds the revs will drop down to idle that’s 900-1000rpm and then you turn off everything and take your foot off the brake and steering wheel and then let the car idle for a couple of minutes and then take it for a drive. After the car is at running temperature so about 15-20 minutes it should feel nice and smooth or angry and fast whatever it was like when you first picked it up from having more power put into the engine

Change the spark plugs at the same time is advantageous! Great earthing info!
It's a great improvement on the FG's, that the coil packs are bolted on. Not like the B-series push-in type. Great vid. Cheers

You install these coils in June 2021.
Did they last ?

Well done Kev cool tips

Interesting I've got a g6e turbo haven't don't any earth straps yet

My thoughts exactly 👌 and definitely doesn't hurt

Yep good tip ...I just get lazy sometimes..cheers mate 👍
Just discovered your channel today bud. Great stuff. Subbed!
Cheers mate . Appreciate it 🤙
Awesome vid
Will these suit non turbo fg
Coil packs no ..but electrical fixes yes
Coil packs from ba to BF are different to fg ...but changing them will help Auto issues ...misfires ect
I've got a fg auto but non turbo and wanted mace coils
Yep they will work fine on non turbo MACE coils are cheap and good 👌
why not change the plugs whilst your already there??
Anyone know why no power is getting to one of my solenoids
Vct
Any drama with the coil packs mate?
Not yet there Banga👌
Do lpi engines have oil packs
Yes, the direct injection gas works the same way as the petrol version.
Exactly the same coil pack set-up as the video. I have an FG mk2 EcoLpi.
