      True, but there are more of those in the region including Netanyahu. But I guess that’s done to non Jews, and no ine will do much about it. UAE is worse than Assad in terms of its crack down on opposition. And the definition of opposition in UAE will shock. You wouldn’t believe what people got life sentences and death sentences for. An example is a couple of UAE citizens sent a very mild open letter to UAE Bun Zayid despot and they’ve put away for life or sentenced to death. I don’t remember anymore but it’s easily checked. The Saudi prince running Saudi now is not only a despot but a psychopath. The Egyptian regime…on and on and on.

    Valuable conversation and an example of why we have to stop excoriating professional journalism. Doing so is being blindly obedient to trump.

    • @stevendoran877
      @stevendoran877 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Their excoriation is a self inflicted wound. Journalism's decline started long before Trump came into politics.

    • @lesleygraham5927
      @lesleygraham5927 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@stevendoran877 I suspect it's a lot more complicated than this, when you have the likes of Rupert Murdoch trying to drive the RW retoric, it means good journalists baiing out because they don't want to put their lives or reputations on the line, or both, look at the Mexican list of career survival rate, try 16 months if you work as a journalist.
      So you do have a point, but the deregulation of news reporting is the problem, not the trained journalists.

    • @stevendoran877
      @stevendoran877 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@lesleygraham5927 I'm not certain what you mean by deregulated journalists.
      There should be no regulated journalist ever.
      So you have a problem with RW journalism but not LW journalism?
      It's a different landscape now, consumers no longer want to watch the same three anchors like they did in my youth, it's pretty wide open with a lot of information available from a lot of varied sources and we are all better off for it
      I'm 73 and I feel more informed than ever now than I ever was when all we had were " trained journalists "

    • @isko00011
      @isko00011 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@lesleygraham5927 I agree it's complicated. Murdoch is a villain and I agree regulating news, especially cable news is important. It used to be effortless to self-regulate, when I was a kid we had a slightly conservative morning paper & after school I delivered the slightly left leaning afternoon paper so we would read the same article twice, one leaning left the other right. I'm over simplifying my next point but consumers need to take some of the blame for gleefully watching trump's court case sagas like it was a soap opera instead of forcing the news to cover the Biden presidency. News is supposed to inform, I understand a little entertainment but first & foremost it's supposed to inform us on both sides of any issue so we can make our own assessment. We don't seem to demand that & I don't know how we tweak ourselves to demand it but I think it's worth discussing as a society.
