  • Here's a quick tip on how to fix your sagging truck door. Very easy to do and it costs almost nothing!
    This will work for any 1990-1999 Chevy or GMC truck. (Suburban, Pickup, Tahoe, Denali, etc)
    It may work on other models too, but not sure since we have not had any of those trucks. (Ford, Dodge, Ram, Toyota, etc)
    Thank You for watching!

    I replaced all the bushings and hinge pins and the broke ass roller pin (which was the only part that did its job) but no difference shutting still sagged and still had to slam the piss out of it but this trick worked perfectly now zero sag and I don’t gotta slam it no more thanks a lot man!

    This trick really does work! After replacing all my bushings and hinge pins with no change in the sag of the door, i knew that something had simply been bent out of shape over the years. This is the solution! It rrally does fix the problem!

      Im in the exact same boat right now, just replaced bushings and pins, wrenched my back working the jack positioning, go to close the door and still enough sag that it wont close all the way. Hunting down a 2x4 as I type this.

    Mine was actually tough to open, and I had to push on it from inside. This 2x4 method worked great on my 97 K1500.
    Now I get that little "open bump" that gets the door moving from the inside like the passenger side does. I didn't realize my door had started to sag, and thought it was the door lever rod that needed adjusting, since I've had to do that before too.
    On a side note, if anyone needs to take off the door panel to adjust their door lever, or change it. You can actually leave all the electronics hooked up-- just pivot the door panel carefully and rest the other side on the ground, the side that is where your inside door light is will rest on the ground. The electronics are tough to separate on these old trucks, and sometimes break the old plastic connectors.
    Thank you so much for the video. I figure if it sags again after a while, I'll just use the 2x4 again,

    Very interesting! This might be a good temporary solution. I think over time the hinges will need the pins and bushings etc replaced.
    These 90s Chevy GMC trucks are notorious for developing this sagging door issue. My 99 Tahoe was on its 2nd or 3rd set of pins and might have needed new hinges if/when it started sagging again, but it was totaled after hitting a deer.
    I was fortunate enough to buy an original owner 97 GMC truck but it's door are starting to sag, too.
    I have learned IF you replace the pins & bushings do a perfect job and they're supposed to last a long time.
    I think the first time we did it on my Tahoe it was done carelessly and it caused the problem to get worse much faster the problems seemed to compound.
    I'm not sure my truck is beat up enough to try this 2x4 tweak, but if it's on it's last legs and the doors sag, I'll remember this farmer's type repair!
    I'm thinking I'll do the pin replacement and take care to not rush so it's done right and tight. Need it to last!
    New hinges are much too expensive!

    • @TinyIowa
      @TinyIowa  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yep, do what you feel is right to do. All I know is I learned it from an old school auto body man... and it worked.
      Btw, he was no farmer and this isn't a 'farmer trick', as he was far from a farmer. He had a bunch of his vehicles he's worked on over the years that were published in magazines and had many auto body awards which he had won. This has worked every time for long periods of time.
      Thanks for watching. 🙂
      But if you have a show truck and wanted every body line perfect, I would keep doing it the way you are doing it.

    I'm going to try this I got a 1994 pickup. I still have to replace the driver's door no matter what because it said for such a long time the guy who owned it before me split it. Been driving without a door for years. Looking for a door but when I find it....
    Anyway I want to try this on the passenger door cuz that one's a little hard to close too.
    My question is how long will this last? I mean it looks like a temporary fix which of course it is but how long is that expected?

    • @TinyIowa
      @TinyIowa  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Every vehicle is different. There are to many other circumstances involved... where/how is it used (farm truck, crap roads, plow truck, etc.) drive train of the vehicle, rust, etc.
      I've used this trick on many vehicles. I think the worst one I used it on lasted about 4 months, before I had to do it again... I honestly didn't even think on that truck it would work, but it did. Another one, the body was almost perfect and it really didn't need to do it, but I did it anyways... that one lasted longer than I had the vehicle. Others lasted from months to years.

    • @TinyIowa
      @TinyIowa  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Also... if you drive your vehicle (move it and don't close the door) and just leave it open... that puts pressure on the door. Backing up with the door left open is the worst too! Do you slam the doors, or do you close them.
      All of these things determine how long it will last.

      I don't really know... a year, 2, 3? Usually tens of thousands of miles... never really calculated it out. 🤷
      Rougher the driving on bad roads, more slamming of the doors, driving with the door open, or hanging on the door all makes it worse. The doors are heavy.
      But I'm glad it helped you out! Thanks for watching. 🙂

    This is not a fix. All you're doing is bending it one way, but, the door is heavy, and it will bend/sag right back. Just do It right and buy hinges and bushings. it's not that hard.

    • @TinyIowa
      @TinyIowa  ปีที่แล้ว +11

      You are 100% correct on everything you just said. But for the people that are driving an old truck like this as a daily driver... those that don't have a lot of income or knowledge on how to fix the door properly, this trick will help those out. This lasts for thousands of miles, and when it gets bad again after a year or so, do it again.
      It's a lot cheaper and easier to afford this, then it is with time and money.

      The hinges are welded on. There's nothing simple about replacing the hinges on these trucks.
      Body shops use a tool that bends the hinges back up to proper alignment all the time -- not the same thing as this video shows, but it's a common fix for this model
