    I was hoping this would be an actual hinge replacement, not just the pins/bushings. Long-term problem on these trucks is the actual hinges bend/sag slightly over time which messes up door alignment, and the hinges are welded onto the body so not easy to replace (or so I'm told).

    • @mickjager5974
      @mickjager5974 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      A lot of folks fix sagging doors/hinges by putting a jack under the door and using it to gently/slowly bend the hinges/door back to where it will close better.

    not to bad of a video. i did notice a couple of things; you mentioned using the correct tool for the job, but I see you're using a flat-blade screwdriver to pry out the old bushings, and you used a claw hammer to pound them back in. Two suggestions: 1) drive the bushings in straight, instead of cock-eyed, and they'll go in easier. 2) when recording in cramp/dark confined areas, use an auxiliary light to illuminate the area you're focused on.

      It’s been a while, but I do believe the original hinges are welded it from the factory. So swapping them out is difficult, but if it is done right, it is better than the method I used in this video. My door was much much better but nowhere near perfect.

    I found some hinge bushing made of steel rather than the brittle brass/bronze ones. Holding up so far, but need to go back and push them and the pins back into place some. Seems like It might be nice to have drilled a hole in pin to put a cotter pin that would work better than the cheese clips.

I installed a new pin and bushing kit but I put the bushings in the body-mounted bracket, which now supports the weight of the door. The part# is Kool-Vue RC46390002 door hinge. Time for the body shop, cut and/or drill out the welds then dissolve the glue still holding them on, then make your own hinge that will work better. Maybe just bolt on some house door hinges to the outside of the door, they'll last forever.

      I think because at that point you need to drill out the welds and weld in new hinges and a) that’s beyond most people’s abilities and b) hard to do without forever screwing up the door alignment.

    On my bronco the door doesn't close nicely but I don't think its an issue with the hinges because it swings nice and square and everything lines up. The issue with mine is that I need to slam it pretty hard for it to close fully. People on the internet theorized it was the striker pin bushing. I bought new door striker pins with new bushings but I still need to slam the floor for it to close flush. Any ideas??

    • @MattsGarage

      Ian Murphy What year is your bronco? For the EB’s what you are describing is painfully common. Guys try everything from melting the weatherstripping to ordering the weatherstripping from multiple vendors and trying them. I thought this was a video showing the installation of the door springs, not the pin. It would be helpful if you could show a shot of the spring installed. Just showing tightening the spring tool doesn’t really help. You really didn’t show anything regarding the spring itself.

    DO NOT USE dorman hinge kits, bushings are super brittle. Went through 4 sets B4 I got some Delco ones

    replacing the weld on hinges is whole new ball game....not fun at all. GM could have made is easier if they would have used 2 line up dowels so the new hinges could be replaced at the factory location...but did GM designers do this??????? NO .....bad design. ... I have fixed hundreds of these over the years....How many Dodge and Ford pickup hinges have I replaced in 30 years? almost none...
