I did it today! Bought my first motorcycle! 3 years in the making and I got there. Harley Davidson 2016 Roadster. Bought in another state to save some cash, non harley dealership. Just waiting on delivery. I'm so excited. Can't wait to get out and start practicing on it. Thank you so much for your videos. I enjoy hearing of your experiences and watching and will be continuing to watch and chat.
YooooooooOoooo congrats!!!!!! Roadster is definitely my fav sporty and you made the right call! Bro so happy for you! Im taking a little break from YT right now but man I had to come and say something after I saw this notification:) keep me posted!
Insurance rates throughout the world are dramatically different and there's never really a reason. This is still my first year of riding and I bought a 2020 883 in July of 2022. I only pay $30/month though and I live in SC.
Ontario Insurance is a rip off. Pretty much no insurance company will insure a rider with an M1 license so it makes that process of the graduated licensing completely useless. They don't take into account driving experience for new motorcycle riders and they won't automatically lower your rates year to year based on experience. You have to price shop them every year. And most companies only offer 1 year at a time, and it seems cancelling isn't a feasible option to reduce cost for months with snow. Having said that, I would still insure for the full year because there are times when you can take a ride in November, or January, so you're ready to go if insured.
@@OntarioBearHunter That's reasonable! My 790 Duke was like $2200 the first year with M2, shopped around and got it much better the second year. Engine displacement makes a big difference.
That is frustrating when you cant get insurance because of the level of license you hold. In BC if you have a learners license, they give you cheaper insurance because you drive with restrictions but as soon as you gain full license, your rates spike 2-3x
@Paul Taylor that's the big mistake guys make.. buying 600 RRs or worse liters and finding out after they bought, what insurance costs. We put out so much on insurance in our household, not expensive per unit, but just how many vehicles we have insured, so we are constantly checking, for our trucks, the broker does a good job of finding lowest rates.
@@OntarioBearHunter That's one thing i always do before buying any vehicle, check the insurance rate. With the bike, something that made it more frustrating was I called around about the bike and got quotes. But then when i went to get it insured after buying it, that's when they asked my license rating, then i had to leave the bike at the dealership until i had my M2.
Ontario rates aren't too bad, but since they don't offer 6 month plans anymore, last I remember having 6 months was early 90s, they nab you a cancellation penalty of one or 2 months. Even if I just drop the liability and keep the comprehensive fire/ theft it only saves me 100 dollars a year.
@KS Moto Cafe yup. back when I started riding in 87 there was a 6 month option..but that got dropped in the 90s. You can drop the liability and put it on a " storage clause" if you have full coverage, but total my liability on the bike is only 200 a year, rest is comprehensive, so no savings really.
Hey man. Just wanted to say I loved the video. I live in alabama US. I talked to you a while ago and took my MSF course in Oct of 21. I've been paying off some things and will hopefully soon be going to finally get my bike. I was going to get a 48 but they've become harder to find at the price level I want. So I have found a 2016 roadster with some extra's on it in my price range. So I'm hoping in the next 2 weeks or so to go and try to buy it. In Alabama we get cold weather but I think with heated gear and short distances I am going to try to ride year round. We do get to low 30 degrees fahrenheit / -1 celsius. But I'm about 4 miles from my work and I'm going to use my bike for morning and evening rides. I know how I used to feel when riding my mountain bike for hours each night and I feel like I totally get what you're saying about the stress and relief that two wheels provides when you get to do that ride.
BC motorcycle insurance fee scaling based on engine displacement is in dire need of a revamp. A 600cc crotch rocket that makes far more power and is far more likely to be driven recklessly is still cheaper to insure than a 1150+ cc touring bike.
yeah that has been my complaint as well but no one at icbc is willing to lift a finger to make that adjustment because so few of em actually ride a motorcycle
Wow, BC is very different, but even in the states insurance and vehicle licensing vary from state to state. I carry my insurance year round, it’s simpler and depending on the weather, I have rode during every month of the year. Winter started early last year in North Idaho, and I didn’t get out in November and December. But this year, I rode in January for the first time ever. 😎🇺🇸
@@KSMotoCafe yes, we had / are having 2 winters. November & December, unusual so early, not much In January and February and now back into it for at least a week more
Hey what's up bruh! for me I have always insured my bikes for the whole year, cause like you I ride all year long, and I live in a cold weather state, Detroit, Michigan. There is another reason I keep year round insurance on my bikes, and that is some times I will travel on my bike from Detroit to a warm climate state like Georgia, or Florida so I need to have insurance on the bikes. On March 30, 2023 I will picking up my latest bike it's a 2003 Suzuki GSXR 600, and you know already I have a 2001 Honda Shadow 750 ACE, and a 2004 Honda ST1300. I have already got a quote for insurance on all three bikes, the insurance will $215.00 a month for all of the bikes, the ST, and the Shadow will have just "NO fualt" in Michigan you must have Last least No fault to dive, and the GSXR 600 will have Full coverage insurance, that's the bike I'm more likely to have an accident on!.....LOL...stay safe, and ride safe!
@@KSMotoCafe the laws have changed here in Michigan over the last 5 years, if your employer gives you insurance, your auto/motorcycle insurance gives a discount on you auto/motorcycle insurance. The discount is a result of more than one bike that is being insured, if I had only one bike to insure it would cost me more to insure.
I rode last winter. Just because I wanted to get as much practice in before my road test. Not this winter though. Between the cold, salt and potholes, wasn't worth it to me. Gonna put my bike on the road next weekend for 8 months. See how much that costs me 😬.
@@KSMotoCafe I would say 1/4 don’t have insurance and a half of them probably don’t even have a drivers license lol, look at the big group/stunt rides on the tube, nobody has a license plate
There's a 'riding season'? I don't understand that concept...I live in Louisiana, & ride all year, but even if I didn't, I still have to keep my bikes insured all year...here, if you drop the insurance, you have to turn in the tag, or they flag your driver's license, so when you start the insurance again, you have to go get a new tag on top of it...but as long as the bike isn't financed, all you need is liability insurance, you don't have to have full coverage, & that's very cheap for motorcycles...my Honda Shadow Aero VT750 is like $60 a year, & my 600 VLX is like $50 a year...my Road King is paid for, so it doesn't require full coverage, but I keep full coverage on it because the parts are so expensive, but that runs about $50 a month...if financed, you're required to have full coverage until paid for whether you ever ride it or not...
And I thought I was getting ripped! Lol! Glad I don't live there...I think I'd look into moving somewhere warmer & cheaper...Lol! My truck insurance is only like $67 a month...it's not even as much as a motorcycle there! 🤯🤯🤯
Im in Alberta , have a scout rogue and Im financing so need full coverage. I was told I could lower my policy coverage for the winter but I forgot. It added roughly $55 to my monthly auto bill so I’m not kicking myself for not lowering policy. And when spring comes I can just hop on and be legal.
So do you insure your bike all year or only the riding season and how did it benefit you??
3 months at a time is best imo. That's also the shortest amount of time that gets you a plate.
Saves some $$ if the BC rain lasts a while, lol
ah that is good to know! thank you
