@@Nightmaroid Arguably looks more Shotokan. The long range punch Hayate is a good indication of long distance fighting Shotokan is known for. As well as the command grabs where she pins opponents down and follows up with a punch.
@@metube1744 As a Kyokushin practicioner myself; she does do Kyokushin, but not exclusively. She's cross-trained. She uses shotokan karate for things like her Hayate. But she's definitely Kyokushin when you look at her stances (Crossing arms and bringing them to the side, that's seen in Kyokushin derivative styles). She also uses moves that Shotokan does not use (or rarely if so) which we do use in Kyokushin. She knees, she clinches, she elbows, she tends to be very up close and hard hitting. Noticeably, her back-dash is nowhere near as fast and can carry you nowhere near as far as her forward dash (which is very typical of Kyokushin practicioners, as you know we tend to just be all up in the opponent's face and retreat is frowned upon). Her Seichusen Godantsuki also has her completely in the enemy's face, delivering strikes rapidly, before finishing them with an uppercut. You don't see uppercuts in shotokan, and the whole style of her super is very Kyokushin. The style LOOKS shotokan on the surface because it's very fast, and it has elements of Shotokan, but based on her stances, the moves she uses, and the grabs and clinches and ESPECIALLY the knees and elbows, I believe Rindo-Kan Karate (the style she follows) started as a Kyokushin school that took Shotokan elements (the dashing and quick punches). So yeah, I believe she does Kyokushin karate. She just also does Shotokan.

So much of SF6’s aesthetic thus far has been based around flowing movement, while Makoto’s style is so uncompromisingly rigid. I think she would make for a really cool “against the grain” addition in a later season.
When they say SA1 is fast, what they really mean is '1 frame startup' fast. It is an absolute beast at countering an opponent that is pressing buttons, nothing is fast enough to beat it.
@@Neonlight3934 Yeah, but they start up in 1: 1 frame startup, 6 actives frames, and 1 frame of recovery. Elite gamers can use EX blink, which is only 6 frames long and starts up instantly. Yeah, my main! Nobody in SF is like Makoto. She's as fast as she is hard hitting. We absolutely need the present-day version of her in SF6. Please, Capcom! SHOBUDAAAAA!!!!
She sometimes feels like she's from an anime game or something, being so extreme in her strengths and weaknesses. But she gives you such an endorphine rush if you play her and get to run your game. When you're guessing right and playing strong, she feels unfair like few characters ever can feel.
Holy crap the pixel art and animations were so freaking good what the hell, I’m completely new to fighting games, the only time I played a pixel art fighting game was the street fighter that was the on on psp when I was like 7 years old and I remember playing Ingrid (I didn’t even know how to play I just mashed buttons) I don’t remember much but seeing this footage really makes me realize how much effort was put into even the old games
As a Makoto player, this version is definitely the most fun character I have played in any fighting game ever. Being able to just win off of one karakusa is incredibly funny, and has the added bonus of smoothing out all those pesky wrinkles in my brain that I didn't need!
One weakness she has is her commitment. There’s no such thing as low commitment with her you do something you’re all in on that thing. Because her only defensive option is sa1, if you call her out she can lose momentum immediately and struggle a little to threaten you again.
Is funny to see ppl who play against my makoto pick her and realize i'm pressing buttons and being relentlessly agressive because i don't have other option. They usually go "what's my reversal?" "Sa1" "just that?" "lol yeah".
I don't even play this game and Makoto scares the crap out of me. With Abare Tosanami, if she's got one bar and the execution you're stunned off one command grab, and if she's got two bars you're actually dead. I believe the kick button you use on Abare determines the angle she jumps off the wall. If anyone's wondering about her third super, it's not worth mentioning. Makoto's third super gives her a damage buff for brief period but she can't block while it's active.
I main Akuma for some reasons: high damage, idc about low health, beast mode mixups and hard combos execution wise. All of these are the same in Makoto so I'm trying to learn her too. Amazing videos I love your content style: short and to the point!
Makoto definitely feels like she's playing a different game, based on her weird tools and her extreme ability to stun and/or TOD you. It's almost like she's not a SF3 character. BTW, where do you get those character quotes at the beginning on each video? (The ones next to each character portrait)
I had the same thing with her. And with Kyo back in '94 cause I was a ff/Terry guy. Who was the pretty boy Japanese wankster? Turned out he was pretty cool. Especially from 95 and onwards. My worst mistake was Iori Yagami though, back in 95, I thought he looked emo and gay. Playing with him, wow, was I wrong. There's a reason he won every fighting game character of the year award in Japanese magazines from 95 to early 2k's.
I remember WAY back in the day when I left a comment on the Fighters Generations website, the guy who ran/runs it crapped on my opinion because I was saying how cool I thought Makoto was because she was a girl in a Karate Gi that didn't have standard SF shoto moves.
That's curious considering he says the same about her in her page and really seems to loves the character. Maybe he was more inmature back when he started TFG but I digress.
Amazing editing work (as usual). Any plans to cover USF4? What about Street Fighter X Tekken? That's a fighter that deserves a second look from many people. I'm used to seeing Tekken here but its great seeing SF.
The one 3rd strike character I didnt get around to trying the one time I messed with the game. Loved Ken, and Dudley, but never tried Makoto. This series has somehow read my mind in the release of its character overviews lol. I got Ken, Makoto, and Dudley back to back. Makes me wanna reinstall 3rd strike.
Makoto is less methodical and more hyper agressive beast on 3rd strike. Like you're a truck out of control, and you can only do damage if you keep moving and hitting shit, the moment you stop, you're out of the game. Reason why i never played her on usf4, playing juri instead, she's more wait and punish there and it doesn't sit right to me.
i'm looking for examples of characters that fall under the "one shot" character archetype. Currently i have three i'm really sure about: Makoto form sf3, Nagoriyuki from gg strive and Elizabeth from P4A. The way i define a One shot archetype characters are the one who sacrifice consistency (in the form of having a weak neutral game or requiring some type of condition hard to fullfil), in order to obtain a massive winning chance that they need to capitalize of, usually a super combo o touch of death combo. They are the equivalent of playing a combo deck in deck building games, lacking in a lot of aspects but pretty much wins once all the conditions are met and the combo works.
