I always thought that was the shows one weakness. He never really finds anything to eat, so the secret to surviving is to learn to deal with not eating.
It may be hard to realize but it actually is really hard to get meat in survival situations. Imagine trying to get a fish without a net or a fishing rod and a constant supply of good bait. Every time he manages to catch something large I’m astounded because I know just how hard it can be. We don’t see him catch meat many times because he doesn’t fake the production and stick a dead rabbit or fish into his spear when not filming
@@dannytjon right, it’s mostly about bugs when you’re in a survival situation. That juicy protein really helps keep you going. Forage bugs and keep getting water and you can survive a while.
@@dannytjon Les has also talked in director's commentaries about the difficulty of hunting and filming at the same time. All of the moving around to set up cameras, talking to the camera, etc. basically alerts everything in the area to his presence. @BadDriversOfTennessee in reruns yes they do. The premieres generally have all of the footage together. Perfect example is in the Kalahari episode. The scene where Les discusses the importance of staying hydrated was in the original premiere (I saw it at the time), but was cut down in later reruns (likely for Science Channel syndication).

Even though it wasn't a survival situation, I still was able to utilize a skill shown in this video. I was in Mexico, just north of Puerto Vallarta, walking on the beach, when I came upon an old coconut I could still hear liquid sloshing inside of. I didn't have a knife or tree stump to get through the husk with, but I found an old piece of rebar lying around in the sand so I stuck it in some firm rocky sand and actually managed to pry the husk from the coconut using pretty much the same method you used around 13:10. After I got the husk off, I used the rebar to tap firmly around the coconut and crack it open, and it actually contained what I knew from your Grenada video to be a coconut apple! Absolutely delicious! Plus, thanks to your knowledge and education I was able to significantly impress my family, who had become fairly jaded to my (for lack of a better phrase) ethnobotanical nerd-outs. Thank you for all you do!

3:17 Pretty cool how he walks up explaining survival, with the sunlight above the left side of his head, representing logic, and strong clouds above the right side of his mind, representing his emotions. Almost as if it stands for how it’s going to be tough mentally, there’s a storm ahead, but you have the right tools to survive it, with your logic. Brilliant art 👌

I noticed the the bone necklace around Les' neck. I'm guessing it was a gift from the survival expert that helped Les before making this episode, from one survival expert to another. As well as to bring good fortune during the seven days having to survive. I can only imagine how surreal it must feel to be alone and documenting each survival experience, especially this one. I'd love to see a directors commentary on this particular episode.
This show is infinitely better than the other survival shows around right now. Naked and afraid is ok but the fact that Les explains everything makes it so much better
Ya naked and afraid is the only other one that feels real as it can be ...they do have camera crews , les is truly alone, but personally the one that takes the top for me is the naked and afraid XL version with a 60 day challenge , and if I’m not mistaken also 2 guys did like 90 days in Africa catching electric eels naked with their bare hands ,knee deep in a swamp with about a hundred different things that can kill and eat you, epic !!! I’m pretty sure that brownish juice was alcoholic, so he sort of did!
I love watching the simple things you get with Les. Just the clearly visible joy at having a good meal.
its awesome seeing the footage that wasnt aired originally
The additional footage was in the original airing on Discovery, but I think they cut those scenes out of the reruns to shorten the run time when they moved to Science channel.
@@lesleyj.stroud1713 you really made a new account just to make these comments acting like you are him?
Im pretty sure les wouldnt have create an account only 5 days ago.
Never thought I'd be so stuck and down out that a survivorman episode would make me hungry. Just living on water for days really does something to the mind as well as the body
This is by far one of my favorite episodes. I love watching Les thriving in a survival situation.
I jus love how humble les is unlike all the others he’s real the rest stay in hotels this man dose it legit
I love when he gets a bunch of different wild edibles and then a meat source and sets up his meal that way
He made a small guitar/ukulele out of coconuts. Pure legend.
Best meal in survivorman history
I love when Les is having his tropical island feast 44:26
The south Pacific has always been my dream place to explore. It must've been a hell of a theater of war to fight in also. All the secret and undiscovered war relics and places that still exist would be fascinating to explore. It's a beautiful yet scary place.
Saw this when I still lived with my dad at home and Discovery was new on the TV... Brings back memories..
I used to stay up late with my little brother watching this on the weekends when our parents would take my sisters out of town to ride their horses. They always left us behind so we watched this show all the time!
I've watched every single episode YEARS ago and now I'm binging them again. You're a good man Les.
Always loved your videos Les, have been watching over 10 years. I’m sure people will continue watching you 100 years into the future. We can’t lose these skills.
His bent spear was the perfect angle for water refraction.. This dude is a legend..nah GOAT
He is a true artist. In survival and filming
Anyone else always get super thirsty and grab a cup of water when watching these survival shows?
this is one of those episodes where Les actually thrived a bit, good to see.
When I was a kid, watching your show this was always my favorite episode, with the island survival one, because the food always looked so good lol.
Thank you so much for uploading these, you were one of my heroes when I grew up and it's good to see this when the world is so crazy outside right now.
These episodes bring me back to my teen years. Grew up watching this, and over a decade later I’m still here. These will never get old. Favorite show ever!
We love you ❤️ thanks for uploading.. the best nostalgia. I didn’t remember or realize how much I loved you as a kid. It made me smile seeing you cut the shirt because I know you said it stupid in retrospect. Cute crop top though.
Les Stroud, the GOAT!
He makes EVERYTHING taste like it’s the best thing in the world I know his wife must appreciate that 😂
MMMM
OH YEA
Can't get sushi this fresh in LA
I'm sorry Les lol
Best show ever as a kid, and even today! Had me in the woods thinking i could survive at 12 years old lol.Glad i found this, definitely going to bing watch before bed.
This was always my favorite episode. Thank you Les
I miss when shows were like this. Could just sit back, watch, and escape. No politics. No isms.
Try it out if you haven’t seen them
@@Shaddow88664 yes I love XL. I do find myself wanting another week or two each survivorman episode. Maybe one day Les will do naked and afraid
Alone is a good series.
@@ilikepushrodv8s210 If you ignore survivors getting preferential treatment, exploiting loopholes that let them bring enough food to outlast everyone else from the beginning, and being given shit behind the scenes then sure.
couldnt stop smiling this entire episode because the episode i watched before this was in the arctic and he was struggling real bad. he deserved an episode like this
Les, youre such a good dude letting everyone have the content for free, thank you. Its been so nice this last week just going thru all these episodes.
You’re amazing Les. I love watching survivorman. I can’t find a good streaming service that has your show so this is a lifesaver.
What, a great island ...
Coconut juice is very nutricious.
Cut-off Hawaiian shirt with matching do-rag is definitely one of Les's sexier survival outfits.
Authentic & dedication to the craft of making a great show, this is why Les & Survivorman is the best ..
🤣😂😂 Boss, man, I got to take you serious throughout these videos bro, I can't stop looking at that shirt that shit has me dying, my utmost respect sir I'm just saying!! You're still a legend in my book!!!
I get so immersed in the show. Every bit of relief Les feels or even the stressful hard times he has, you can just feel it. That's how you know it's real
I love you for putting these seasons in your YT channel. THANK YOU LES!
Amen, cause here in the States I've had trouble in the past with SMTV.
Still watching. Point to be made here he also had zero go pro anything. Just plain vhs cameras. Mad respect
les stroad is legend. the only one to actually do it for real
7:35 Ma boi Les lookin’ like a good ol’ orange rockin’ pirate!!
Sooo many episodes!!!! I love it! THANKS!!!! Greetz from Austria!
Les teaches us gratitude for what we have in million little ways.
I used to watch your show back when I was a kid, youre awesome
Surviving on a 25 acre island surrounded by one of the most popular snorkeling destinations in the world and separated from an inhabited island by only 300 meters of 4ft deep lagoon water lol. I still love this damn show.
Thank you for sharing all of these Les
Les always gets so excited when he gets a fire going. You love to see it.
Everyone watching this preppin for 2020 post-apocalypse.
I've always been on the lookout for survival type content similar to Survivorman, but while some may emulate it to a close degree, none can satisfy the itch that Les has created for me. That's why I'm always coming back here, but I'm still hoping to experience new but similar highs.
