DIY: Dog Kayak Platform

I wanted a platform for my dog to go kayaking with me. I set out to buy one... hours, days, weeks later I emerged from my kayak platform internet search. Disappointed, blurry eyed, and foggy I realized I would have to suck it up and make one.
lol, My mantra... I'm an adult female, I have opposable thumbs and problem solving cognition... I can do anything!... plus I'd watched a handful of DIY dog platform videos. So, this is my pitbulls platform, although I'm sure she'll be resistant to move off my lap!
I know it looks like it would get hot in the sun all day, it DOES NOT! I don't know if they are all this good at not heating up, this is a Blacktip Jetsports Traction Mat.

I’m going to position my 30 lb. pooch in front of me. The front deck is slightly rounded or dome-like and tapers to the bow. I’m going to use a 2 part expanding epoxy material that foams into a contained space. The mold for the platform will be on top of the bow deck with cardboard in a “box” on the perimeter and the bottom covered with a trash bag conforming to the deck curves and so the thing doesn’t stick permanently to the deck. Have fun paddling with your doggie.

What a great idea. I was in the Navy and we dove for underwater mines/ordnance and we made platforms like this for our rubber boats. never crossed my mine (pun intended) to make one for my dog. Thank you sooooo much!

very nice solution, why use the platform on the back of the kayak as opposed to the front of the kayak?

I have a fishing kayak similar in design to the video. They already don’t track very well Bc they favor stability over ease of movement. When you start adding weight to the front the kayak it Becomes hard to steer and won’t stay straight if it’s uneven at all.
