  • ** So Mike is back north again (as he was spraying remember back at the main farm) and he is trying to combine his Barley, but it's just barely dry enough to harvest. Mike doesn't have a dryer yet or bins with Air in them to cool /dry the barley down.

Nice to see decent grain crop being harvested this year. W. US is a disaster, much of midwest drought wind damage or disease.
You're going to appreciate those barley checks if you can hold off for spring late spring deliver. Think $10 bu or more when the cattlemen are buthcering their best breeder bulls n cows because they're all out of feed. Prime fat slaughter steers will be $250++ a hundred on the hoof.
Sure love my Labatts, price going up. Cattlemen will be rustling semis of barley

Great looking crop of barley, Mike! Sample was maybe a little dirty but not bad.
I am down here in central Montana, where malt barley has been our main crop for decades; we sell to Coors or Busch Ag or local malt houses (and they have their own proprietary seed varieties for sure and are quite picky).
Oddly a lot of what we have grown is going to be sold as feed and shipped your way this year (quite a rare year for that). Feed prices are higher this year than malt prices, which occurs maybe once every 20 years.
We typically don't bin barley at anything over 13.5 due to concerns over spoilage, assuming no aeration.
The barley itch is real lol. Don't worry your eyes will stop itching and watering after a few days. Maybe ;)

Just a thought on straw chopper plugging, our 780 claas was having plugging issues too. Turned out the swinging hammers were rounded off so we we able to flip them as they are dual sided and haven't plugged again. The problem got worse as the combine got more hours on it. The rotors drop straw on both side of the chopper and what was happening was the choppers back swing wasn't cutting through the material and instead batting straw back up at the rotor. New sharp square edge flails fixed it up. This was after 500 hours.
