This brought a tear to my eyes. This video has to be decades old. I remember Louis Colangelo and Mary Staffo from the video from back in the 70's, and that is just how I remember them. My mother, Carmela Colangelo, was born in Little Falls to Rocco and Angi Colengelo. I know I must me related to Louis somehow. She married my father and moved to California before I was born, but I spent every summer in Little Falls growing up. I have many great memories hanging out with all the kids (Scaparos (cousins), Wrens, Jodways, Bakers, Millers, etc...). I plan to go back in the not too distant future to visit my cousins. I spent many hours in Lamana's with my nickel or dime trying to figure out how to maximize my candy haul. Mr. Lamana was alway very nice, and slipped an extra piece of candy in the bag frequently. I made a trip back to Monteleone, Italy a few years back. I was suprised to see the names on the war memorials and headstones. It looked like a Little Falls telephone directory. Lots of Colangelos, Lamanas, Staffos, Morras (my grandmother's maiden name). I also remember seeing the name Volpe on some of the markers, but I don't recall any Volpes in LF. Thank you for the video.
I have great memories of visiting my Aunt Jo and Uncle Earl Eysaman in Little Falls. My cousins and myself would visit them in pairs on a different week during the summer. We used to get on the lift bridge to see the big barges and tug boats go by on the canal. They were definitely the good ole days!❤ David from Oneonta
Love this! I grew up here. Amazing people from a beautiful town! It is and continues to be a pleasure to have grown up here. There is a walking tour that I highly recommend that gives a free tour (merch available) of the south side during the Canal Days. There are so many events that I cannot possibly list here. If you are a native or just a visitor I hope that you will enjoy the place that I call home.
My father and uncle through marriage grew up on the South Side and would talk for hours about the old days. Every person they talked about seemed to have nickname!
My dad talked about you all, I know the names and faces......he really enjoyed his friends from the South Side........it was the Italian food cooked on the South Side that is legendary. It's all about the food and family. And wine made in the cellars. Keep making the memories.
