    I am a geologist and I have to say this is one of the most informational videos I have ever seen on TH-cam. Very well done.

    I took a group to Koa and had a horrible experience .We rented a cabin and then went looking for crystals ,we returned to the cabin and a terrible smell.We took the cabin apart because they refused to give us another cabin.We fou d mouse turds and a dead mouse.We thought we had solved our problem.Wrong! After we cleaned the area and sprayed the smell got worse.Someone had stuck a dead squirrel between the layers of trash bags in the can .We took it to the office and they said we were trying to get the cabin for free.We actually slept outside the cabin.We left that morning and went to crystal grovemine.We had a great time there. The people were very helpful. I am planning a trip to Mohawk Valley this summer. Heading to Maine first then New Hampshire and finally New York.I live in Central Maryland.Thanks for your reviews. I live in the Mohawk Valley and surrounding areas are some of the most beautiful places that I ever lived. There is so much history in this area from the Erie Canal to Revolutionary War sites to Cooperstown and the Adirondack Mountains! And we have Herkimer Diamonds!

    This is a great video! This is the kind of video I can recommend to people b/c there are so much good information here. I didn't like KOA, like you said its a tourists spot but it's great if you have small kids, Mohawk is awesome but is pricey, ACE of Diamonds is a favorite and you can't go wrong with Crystal Grove, I agree that they are very nice there! Thank You!!!

    Too funny to see this today because we just got home from Crystal Grove last night! We love it there and have gone for 5 years now, but after watching your video maybe we’ll have to try another mine too!

      Yes Crystal grove is awesome! We were actually trying to make it up there this past week but it didn't work out! You should try out other mines if only for the experience and to switch it up! If we have a few days we go to different ones each day lol Thanks for watching!

    We just got home yesterday from Herkimer. We stayed at the KOA, but didn’t mine there. We only went to Ace of Diamond mine for 2 days and came home with some great pieces. We will definitely go back and hopefully check out crystal grove.

    @NicholetteBrian What would you consider to be the best place to reap the most value from mining all day? I know you touched on how much you may expect to find, but I'm wondering which one has the best finds as far as value of the crystals?

  • @dustinfindsrocks
    @dustinfindsrocks 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    What a great video. I'm planning to go. Is it safe to go solo to these mines?

    • @NicholetteBrian
      @NicholetteBrian  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Lots of people go solo safely as there is staff at the mines and other people mining. It’s not a commercial mine but a public attraction. Use caution when navigating the mine and when mining but it is safe to go alone!

    UPDATE 2024: ACE OF DIAMONDS is closed for mining in 2024 due to an ongoing lawsuit, we are hoping they will reopen when the suit is over. While this suit was going on they weren't allowed to dig for new material so they stayed open for awhile but sadly, this season is closed. I am not sure if this applies for the camping sites and gift store.

    Are Herkimer diamonds worth anything?

    • @NicholetteBrian
      @NicholetteBrian  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      yes, they have value! It depends on the quality but it ranges from $1 a karat to $100's a karat. Special specimens on the matrix can increase price as well. Anything someone has to go and work hard to obtain and that has demand holds some value.
