      I think they came in second place with “what they know.“ That was in the heat I watched today. I think the guys that are using higher tech engine works, the Styll ( bad spelling) sponsored craft, it Prevailed.

    The wire bundling and routing shows just how well this aircraft is crafted and maintained. Tight and organized all the way and the paint scheme wow! That’s one fast chainsaw…. Great job Juan showing us what they were willing to show us during those intense times in the pits. I’m glad to see our donations to the Reno Air Races bore fruit this year and hopefully many more years to come.. Cheers Juan!

    Robby Grove is a legendary fiberglas aircraft designer and builder in the San Diego area. He build the first high aspect ratio wing for a Formula I racer, named Lucy P.
    He also built the second Formula I aircraft with the large aspect ratio wing, both flown by Jeff Sawyer proving the superiority of the low span loading concept in the turning phase of the Formula I racing course. Thanks for the many high quality wings you built for many of us, Robby.

  • @mykofreder1682
    @mykofreder1682 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    It's a small airplane without a lot of friction, I assume it sucks gas so with the small size it probably doesn't have much range at high speed. It appears they are red lining the engine but get away with long enough with their cooling solution. The prop is not very big but has a very aggressive blade shape. As fast or faster than most WW2 stock fighters at the low altitude they do this racing at, he said it was 580 cuin while a stock Merlin is 1650 cuin and its Supercharged.

    Thanks for the better look under the cowling Juan !
    My personal background is in IndyCar, which, while has some similar concepts, is completely different !
    Displacement enhancements, performance internals, boost, injection systems, and not to be forgotten, water injection, and cooling, prop pitch technology, and over driven, or under-driven for that matter !
    I have to agree with you Juan,
    this looks to be the future of the sport !
    "Unlimited class" speeds, without the "Unlimited class" costs !
    Seriously has my attention Juan !
    I would very much like to know more about the class, and plan to do my share of homework on what it takes to be able to be involved in the class !
    Thanks again Juan !

    JB: Would you be able to film (or get it filmed) the ground crew working during the race and communicating with the pilot? That would make a great video!

    • @gmcjetpilot
      @gmcjetpilot 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is not a lot going on w/ ground crew during race. It is man and machine going really fast, really low. Pilot too busy to chat. The pilots in the race are talking to each other however not ground crew. Some teams (not many) have "telemetry" sending ground crew data Teams may call the pilot but it's not a conversation. The video of ground crew in the case of the few with telemetry would be a guy stairing at a laptop. Really during race it's not a team sport. It is just pilot, plane and intense flying. The ground crew has little they can do at this point.

      @@blancolirio I can't believe they built that plane in 2 years. They had a lot of help. I built a Glasair 3 all by my lonesome, and it took me 27 years. Kind of embarrassed to admit that, but working alone while flying an airline job and raising kids, it wasn't easy to shorten that by much. I just thought of it as my hobby.
