Thanks just figured out why I haven’t been able to do presses with weights like kept getting slight shiulder pain I kept rolling on my middle back my lats etc it’s from not knowing I tense up my neck while being on computer or phone or sleeping. I did this stretch the last few days and pain is gone! Tight muscle musta kept pulling my body out of alignment chiropractor would get great adjustment but it wouldn’t hold . Now I know why I used to get a great massage once a month she the therapist would always keep this muscle working correctly but I’m going to try these stretches so I continue to body-build
Hi Oliver, thanks for the video, Can you explain why apart from stretching my levator scapula. I feel some of my chronic chest tightness near upper sternum also being reduced? And this stretches ( and somehow), relaxes the ribs ( intercostals?) letting me take deeper breaths. Can this stretch affect the areas I have mentioned? Or am I just assuming?.
Yep, the body is fine mechanics :-) That's both cool, and sometimes annoying... My advice is to stretch max 2 times a day, but to relax many many times (th-cam.com/video/yxIkf36TRD4/w-d-xo.html e.g., at least twice per hour). One of the reasons is that I'm not too much in favor of stretching in the office: due to the setting (you can't lie down), the colleagues, etc. it's difficult to stretch properly and long enough. Hence, there's a real risk to create more problems than you resolve... Another reason is that by experience, if stretching twice a day isn't enough, it means that there's something you do which perpetuates the problem (e.g., head forward). In this case, you have to do a full posture program (e.g., www.onlinepostureprograms.com)
It's always good to move... but careful that you don't play crazy at the gym :-) Have a look at this video on the 3 rules of posture, maybe: th-cam.com/video/4PVI9cnMJo8/w-d-xo.html ...
L Eeee when i military pressed, i heard something crack not like bone crack, meat rip kind of sound and as soon as i let the weight down i knew i’m a little injured and when turning my neck to look around felt super stiff and had lots of pain in my scapulae, the pain was coming from under the muscle somehow.
If your muscle is really torn, I think that you will lack the mobility you need to do this stretch... hence my advice would be to do a lot of heat application, relaxation (th-cam.com/video/LdDnb3Miwss/w-d-xo.html, but very gently) and potentially electrostimulation (EMS) if your physio agrees to get your mobility back, and then this stretch (at first, limit the head mobility with pillows, and then remove then). So you need to be very very progressive... makes sense?
Hi ! I am suffering from neck pain from last 3 years. But from last 6 months in addition to the neck pain i feel some movement around my eyes and sometime it feel like some foreign particle is inside my eye . I consulted to a Physio and asked her about eye pain but she said that neck pain doesn't contribute to the eye pain. Can you please guide me regarding this.
Hey! I have a 2-fold answer... - the pain you describe could be related to the sternocleidomastoid: th-cam.com/video/eydISQZ194Q/w-d-xo.html - even if it's not, you should work on forward head posture to see where it brings you: th-cam.com/video/9a5wkLnd54I/w-d-xo.html
My pain is not In the levator scalp itself but in my upper arm on that side. However my levator scalpulae is incredibly swollen and double the size of the other one
@@OlivierGirard Can the LS muscles get stuck in a constant cycle of chronic tightness and tension if there are nerves being irritated/compressed in the spine at C1 - C2 levels? Thank you.
There's unfortunately not standard time: it depends on what you do that aggravates the problem, what you do that relieves it, and on what is structural (i.e. can't be solved anymore, just can be managed) vs. what's functional (what can be resolved by changing your way of doing things). I have older video that details this based on the example of DDD: th-cam.com/video/crJRs7mzDyQ/w-d-xo.html
Hey Louay, it wouldn't be serious if I would give you a definite answer without knowing anything from your situation... have you seen your family doctor?
Your picture shows EXACTLY where my pain is! Thank you. Other videos made it harder for me to figure out what might be the cause and diagnosis.
Good to hear! This is a great first step :)

I'm glad, dear! Thanks for the comment!!
Thank you for this video. It's amazing how leaning forward makes such a difference. How often should this stretch be performed in a day?

What if your muscle is torn? At what poing should these stretches be done? Immediately post injury?

What are your job and hobbies, mate? Any clue how this occured?
Can you have LS neuralgia from disc bulges in C4/5/6?
I'm not too sure what you mean with LS neuralgia... levator scapulae is a muscle, not a nerve. Can you help me there?
