One of my favorite adventures. Of course I loved going down "the Salt" with you; wildlife, scenery, etc. your climb then back to the river, nice n easy.
A fun time! But I liked seeing the wildlife you captured more than watching you climb. I hiked this area at the crack of dawn under low visibility, and found myself surrounded by about 10 wild horses. The horses are quite docile and almost tame; they followed me for a bit, likely seeking an apple for breakfast.
Another great video Breven. It's a ways off but I'll be down in Chandler again this coming winter. I'd like to get together with you and do some hiking/climbing.
My climbing skills are lacking but would give it a go! Coons Bluff is a cool spot. Lung Solo and I were looking at how to get up there when we paddled the river last Saturday.
Back in the 50s and 60s when we used to tube the Lower Salt River all summer, there were no wild horses. The horses that are there now are descendents of horses abandoned by their owners over the last 40 years due to loss of interest or economic crisis which prevented maintaining them. The story of them being descendants of Iberian horses of the 16th Century is purely false and was dreamed up by the bunny huggers to try to stop the Forest Service from removing them. If their wild origin went back over 400 years, you would think there would be a hell of a lot more of them, but there are not. Early Anglo and Mormon settlers of the mid to latter 19th Century reported no large numbers of wild horses living in the area, or anywhere else in what became the State of Arizona.
Great video! Wild horses. Lol.
Easy choice of music for this one! #nobrainer

Lovely song for that adventure.
Pretty perfect for this one. 🐎🐎🐎
I was hoping for a swan dive from the top…I guess rappelling is fun too.
Super cool adventure!
One of the coolest I’ve done, no doubt
Awesome video as always. I’ve done the kayak thing a couple times from the dam down. Beautiful scenery.
So much wildlife out there Chris! Loved it.

MoonJuice, did you take two vehicles so as to do a shuttle?
Exactly. 👍

I read an article referencing the wild horses of the Salt River from 1890…
