    It must have felt awesome to be back on the water! Dip your toes in the water and breath in the sea spray 😊 You are back on the water and I’m so excited to join the “virtual” trip across the ocean. That’s very kind of you Ellie and John to help your friends out with their new Catamaran. I can’t wait to see your smiles when you take your new Portofino out for her sea trial. Stay healthy, stay safe and keep smiling my beautiful friends! ❤️

    I was watching your latest videos of the new build. Since it's aluminium it's easy to weld on stuff. I loved the rain shots (real life which the glossy marketing guys don't show) and thought that with my "OCD" the water running over those instruments and sun damage would drive me nuts. All that "open" in that wheelhouse needs to be looked at. You said you would like ideas, so here's mine. probably dumb but here goes.
    EYEBROWS. I don't see a reason why they install those instruments into a panel so flush. Nothing is waterPROOF. So weld a 7 shaped "brow" to the boat above the instrument cutout. Maybe just 3 cm wide with the top one angled maybe 5 degrees down and just high enough over the instrument so you don't have to peek under it. Like an umbrella held high. LoL.
    The vertical lip will be on the ocean side. Stop the water from the side. I think that alone will keep a lot of water away. One for each screen. $10 solution. Sort of.
    You also wondered about closing the helm. I assume you looked at Privilege. But also look at the Excess range. They put a little silly roof over your head but the idea could be extrapolated. But, for sure, no matter what, the minimum is a windscreen and a roof.
    I started with an open power boat and the most freezing trips I have done is in the late afternoon going home. If I ever sailed that would never happen again.
    I don't know if you are considering a stern anchoring solution but I find that imperative. Helped me many times. ( mine was muscle powered). I hear Privilege is using something called a "flat rope winch" but that's all I know. Again, in aluminium that could be designed in a jiffy. A bow thruster is a must. That two engine maneuvering in a crosswind is overrated. Marinas are so full nowadays, sometimes one has to work with inches. If at all possible even a stern thruster.
    And make sure that platform idea at the wheel has a sturdy rail. I would not like to sidestep off it into the cockpit. And all windows glass of course. No plastic of whatever type the gurus are selling.
    Good luck with the project. I will be watching. But I have a feeling that this boat is going to be world class. From safety to beaching to everything nautical.

    • @barefootdoctorssailing8567
      @barefootdoctorssailing8567  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi M Lo, lots of great ideas and details! Going through the list , we are doing : cockpit rail, jet thruster, said glass on front of Steering position, solid rood with viewing window on steering position..
      Flexiglass is several hundred kgs heavier than perspex but we have not made that decision yet...
      The Eyebrows are an interesting idea and could be welded into the steering station and act like a support base for the glass too... I will speak to the builder / designer.
      We have looked at that "flat winch rope" that comes on reels and will be good for Med mooring as well and easy to store - Sio I do hope to get that too. Great ideas - keep them coming!
      Thanks Eli and John

    Was that aluminum ketch at your starboard side at 4min. 53 Beowulf???

    • @barefootdoctorssailing8567
      @barefootdoctorssailing8567  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Ulrich, it was an Irish registered boat that was used for running arms to the IRA in the past and was captured by the English at one point... However, I don't know the name right now but will look into it.If that history sounds like Beowulf, then perhaps it is. I will look at it's stern one day soon...

    Great episode John and Eli. I'm glad you ALL had a great sail and that everything went well with zero breakages! 🍾🥂! I hope you help Mark and Holly install triple woollen (although cassette tape is sometimes satisfactory unless wet weather is anticipated) telltale tuffs into the Genoa and Main sails! It seems that their rig is carbon fibre not wire or stainless steel, surely carbon has a lot less chaffing than wire? Let me know. The racer in me wants to let the main out and pull the Genoa down to help correct the shape of both sails a little to increase performance. Is that just my OCD kicking in? Is chaffing a problem with the more expensive black carbon sails? would they take that punishment longer/better or are they more susceptible to wear? your thoughts? My thoughts and prayers go with you for the delivery sail. Fair 💨and following 🌊 for everyone onboard SeaSential⛵!

    • @barefootdoctorssailing8567
      @barefootdoctorssailing8567  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Garth! Fortunately these cats are quite forgiving for slightly inaccurate sail setting and over sheeting the main to get it off the shrouds seems to make no difference. I do like the tell tales myself esp when sailing upwind to get boat direction and the clew height right... Racing habits are not a reason for making OCD diagnosis unless.... !!!

    There's some horror stories about the crap build quality of these cats. Brand new cats with problem after problem and there seems to be a crap response from the company about fixing said problems.
    Maybe thats why there's a long line of new Leopards for sale, people hae done their research

    • @barefootdoctorssailing8567
      @barefootdoctorssailing8567  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Antipoidean, that row of Leopards that you are referring to are all sold and the earliest you can put your name down for a new one is about 3 years time! So you conclusion there is wrong.
      I know exactly what you are referring to and I sympathise with anyone with bad experiences but to make that judgment about all Leopards being "crap" is unfair. I have had two and put them through very (VERY) tough times and they are the best built production cat in my experience.
      Historically this is also supported from all of them that have sailed from South Africa across the worst seas in the world to USA, MEd and Australia without significant failures, proof of sound structures.
      One boat with a series of problems does mean that all Leopards are bad... - thousands have been sailed successfully and better than the other brands so making that board statement about Leopards is unfair and also not my experience....
      I hope that the issues can be sorted out successfully for anyone in that situation too. It seems to be a very unusual set of issues - shame!

      @@barefootdoctorssailing8567 Let's see...........there are 473 Lagoons listed for sale worldwide vs 133 Leopards. Nuff said! 😂

    • @barefootdoctorssailing8567
      @barefootdoctorssailing8567  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mountaindweller9118 I'm not sure what you are implying - if there are less Leaopards for sale cause Leopard owners are happy with their boats or what. however there are about 3 times as many Lagoons made as leopards to this ratio is about right. Both boats are used extensively in the charter business which is a huge market and the Lagoons are more spacious and appear more luxurious but they cannot sail (effectively upwind).
