The song dates back at least to the mid-1800s. As with many old folk songs, the lyrics change over time, but the fiddle tune is something I've known for as long as I can remember (I'm 64).
This is a poor example of Tommy's talent. Play Phantom of the Opera or anything else.😢
In Australia around 1995/96 this was huge and was a great song to dance to, everyone got up for this one and we all got a real workout. Loved it!!
Funny thing is, this song is an arena staple at southern college basketball games. They said "Wanna make fun of us? Ok, we are stealing it."
I went to college in 96 - and remember dancing around the bar to this in my cowboy boots with my friends. It is SO much fun - and SUCH a huge workout. We'd all be exhausted by the end of it. If you want to hear our CANADIAN, super fun drinking song - please check out Home for a Rest - by Spirit of the West. It's a total banger - gets you dancing right out of your chair. Would LOVE to see your reaction to it. Cheers from Ontario, Canada! :)
Tommy, not only can he do everything (but the violin) but he's hilarious.
Bob Wills and Texas Playboys do a version from the 30s-40s. Asleep At The Wheel’s version is the version I remember dancing to…
This song is the equivalent to The Chicken Dance and Hokey Pokey, at wedding dances.
Love Tommy's covers, he has so much energy and they are so fun to watch. Great reaction
Have never seen this group's version of this song. The origins of the song go back to pre-Civil War days and has been heard in traditional American country music in various forms for a long time. While acknowledging that these current musicians are talented, I don't think I'm one to appreciate this new spin.
Great talent Maestro Johansson 👍🎸🔝💯❤️😃
I love that Tommy is real-time directing his clones 😂
you need to hear the original version because that is NOT how I have ever heard it
That was the original. No US ripoff remix...🤷
@@PaladinZeke actually it's an old folk song the earliest recording I could find was Bill Monroe and His Bluegrass Boys
Now I just found a recording on TH-cam that's supposed to be from 1939
@@jeremymoreno242 I know this is an old folk song but can you as an american( I assume) give credit to this eurodisco hit that EVERYONE all over the wolrd heard on MTV, radio, recordstores. I'm not talking about origin here, I'm talking everyone and his mother must have heard this version of the song! Or you might been living totally offgrid like most americans seem to do the last decades, "if we didn't invent it, it don't count'...
Early 80s for sure, cause we were dancing to it when I was dating. Got married in 1982. 😂
As a Swede i do remember when the original/Rednex version came in the mid '90s. Rednex is/was a band from Sweden more or less a one hit wonder band at least outside Sweden. I was surprised when i learned that the Rednex version became very popular outside of Sweden! Tommy J is one of a kind that's for sure!
Old, old song. There is a version of this with Jerry Garcia on one of his side ventures that I've always been fond of.
Love your reaction! For more of Tommy, consider THE DOWNEASTER ’ALEXA’ (Billy Joel) - Metal cover. Also, The Price, and One More Time. Well, anything he's done!
Use to do the 12 step line dance to song, love from Virginia
Hilarious, both - original and cover.
For Tommy there's almost no genre he hasn't covered or covers on his channel. Hear for example his Italian covers etc.
And Rednex is also worth to dive deeper - they have beautiful songs like "Wish you were here" and "Spirit of the Hawk". 🎶
"The way I mate" is a funny music video/song by Rednex also.
He doesn't have a collab with Dan Vasc as of yet, but has an AMAZING collab with Erik Grönwall (former singer of Skid Row) Carolus Rex... they kill it :)
I want him to sing with Floor Jansen. I don't think Hannes would mind.
I think they have done something together.
Read it somewhere and its on Floors channel. 😄
listen to his take on take me home country roads. awsome
This is not the original. Cotton Eye Joe is much older than the 90s. I remember listening to the song back in the 70s. If I am not mistaken Cotton Eye Joe is played in the movie Urban Cowboy.
Tommy can sing anything from a pizzeria menu to the Phantom of the Opera and play at least 8 instruments! If that's not talent I don't know what is 😊
I was hoping you'd get a chuckle. He can do everything except play the violin. Thanks Sebs
Yeah, if you've ever been to a wedding or basketball/hockey game, you've heard it. Some would say...unfortunately.
welcome to the world of tommy johansson my friend. enjoy!
Outstanding!!
Don't mix meth and moonshine kids!! 😅😅
It was EVERYWHERE also here in Denmark it was so overplayed , that i ended up hating it for years
Watch Mean Marys and Rednex version with the line dancing. It has a bit of bluegrass in it.
Makes me proud of being Swedish! Well, sort of 😉
Have you checked out Band-Maid's live version of 'Hate?'? It's a certified banger! 😎🤘
These are his tools. He plays many instruments. By the way, Tommy claims that he can play the violin, but he doesn’t have this instrument, so he says that he doesn’t know how to play. And you have to watch this video carefully to see all of Tommy's jokes. All of Tommy's covers are excellent. Everything he does, he brings to perfection. Tommy is an absolute genius and talent.
You should listen/react to if we make it through December by Merle Haggard, it’s a sad but really beautiful song.
There is a Dan Vasc / Tommy msh up!
You need to hear the original !
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
❤
It's played in more or less all ice hockey games...
The best version of this song was the 2002 remix by Rednex. The video is a blast, too. th-cam.com/video/JyvkiZV0Ous/w-d-xo.html
You should listen to Jake Kohn song is Dreams. He’s 16 with a voice like Colter
You should listen to Rascal Flatts song Skin it touches the heart and soul. It gives me hope for the human race.
That wasn't exactly the Cotten-Eyed-Joe that I remember, but if they can make it a disco-type song, so be it.
The funniest Video i have ❤😂ever seen
this song is fucking huge in europe.
They zydeco’d this up for sure! This is an old 19th century traditional song…
If you take the ocuntry out of a country song, it can become a good song!
Both versions of this old song is fun and well worth putting on to get people dancing.
If you want to see a version that's not satire, check out Lee Matthews doing Cotton-Eyed Joe
Tommy has done The show must go on with Dan Vasc
I wish they had - what you saw was awesome work of Karla Bessa editing them together to give us a taste of what could be 😉🎶
😀
yes I got my step parents too watch him.. they love it.. but it so slow, do not make sence
they are from the next town over from me :P they are.. grreat? :D watch the Xrated version :P its a swedish cult fucking song tho
I thought this song was written by the Gershwins for "Porgy and Bess". Nina Simone's version is heart wrenching and this is an abomination comparatively.
Overplayed in dance clubs in the 90's.
Next....😂
Dan vasc es muy bueno, pero Tommy es un dios. Lo he escuchado mucho y literal me hace ver mis propios errores de voz XD. Ese hombre es increible. Tommy es demasiado maravilloso. Solo compara show must go on.. Hay buenos covers sin duda, pero una voz como la de Tommy es incomparable. Hay muy pocos tenores en el power metal
"Original?" Here's a version by Bob Wills from 1946: th-cam.com/video/DOi-h3kGo9E/w-d-xo.htmlsi=so3kzWO5odrkz8SO
That’s not the Cotton Eyed Joe that I know.
No no and no !
Check out the music video for Dirt Cheap it will have you sobbing
READ EMAIL PLZ LOVE TO YOU , ALI, MILLIE AND PENNY ✌️♥️🙏🏻
Please, react to more Dimash!
This is hideous, and a disgrace to the original
It's actually embarrassing. This is how other countries see us in the states.
@@phyl1042Do you really see a song this way? Then what would it do to you if you were german or austrian and the whole world sees you as Nazis? 🤔 But thank God everyone has a right to have his or her own opinion and so you have all right to have yours. 😉🕊️
Hi my friend please read your email have a blessed day 🙏🏻 ❤
Never danced to this version.
Not really interested to this.
There are better versions
I don't care about historic value and la de da! I CAN'T stand this horrible song.
PS This song is played between 2nd 3rd periods at Toledo Ohio, the Toledo home tune named Toledo Walleye... WALLEYE!!! If the name isn't bad enuf...GAWD! Hate it into infinity

This version is too fast and waaaaaayyyy awful.
