We are the same age, been a blues and rock fan my whole life. Have gone to 26 yearly Memphis In May"s and I can't believe I haven't heard of her. Wow thanks.
She's one of the most kind, loving and talented musicians I've ever met. She was teaching my daughter slide during the pandemic, all while performing to help raise money for local Chicago musicians. Shes a great Mom, and just a very cool human being. We were lucky to have her in Chicago for as many years as we did. She's now an Island girl, happy and livin the dream.
Wow, totally awesome Sebs, now that's how great music is made by people jamming in their back yards and just enjoying the pleasure of making music !!!! She plays that thing like it owes her money !!!
I went to school with a girl from Dallas who tells the story of her big sister coming home one day to tell her and her mom about a couple of guys who were jamming in their garage who were out of this world. They didn't go to check them out but she wishes she had. It was Jimmie and Stevie Ray Vaughan
My youngest son plays guitar and bass and especially the older people here, he’s got a happy audience. My neighbor said can he play on your porch, please?😊
She just mixed the best rendition of Walking Blues with Eruption-esque licks. Wow. Lots have covered this blues classic, including Bonnie Raitt and Eric Clapton. That was the best guitar I’ve ever heard on this song. 😮
Joanna has been great for along time. I live in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and in the 1980s there were a couple of venues that would get regional bands, including several Chicago blues bands. So, I got to see her and her band a few times back then. Fabulous talent. Stay safe and stay well. 😎🤙🏻✌🏻🤟🏻🖖🏻
No bout a doubt it my friend's, Joanna Connor gets down on the get down for sure. From the first time I heard her jammin' in a little bar in the Kingston Mines, I was sold. After that she was one of the first musicians I went to see every time I was in Chi-town. Joanna & her band are a class act of kick-azz musicians who are cool as they come. Good people in my book. Just keeping it a buck! ++Peace & Rock n' Roll 4 Your Soul My Friends++ 🤘😜🤘
Best reaction video I've ever seen. You allow It to be played in full and interject without ruining the flow. She's a fuckn prodigy and your respect to the music is all I've ever wanted. Kudos brother, rock on.
Wow! What the hell? I'm 60 and a huge classic rock fan, and I've never heard of her! How is this even possible? I feel like I've been under a rock! Her voice sounds a little like Janis Joplin, her slide and blues guitar talent reminds me of Rod Price (The Master Of Slide) of Foghat, and her looks favors Mama Cass!!! Time to go find more of her!!!
Excuse me while I pick up my jaw off the floor. Some people are gifted even when they don't look the part. This is blowing my mind, she needs to be on a big stage somewhere. Yes the drummer was killen it too. The other two laid back to let her shine . Awesome !!!!!
I saw her in Key West a few years ago at a tiny bar, seriously good player & performer. Talked to her after the set, down to earth, friendly, funny, class act.
As a huge Joe Bonamassa fan I found out about Joanna Conner several years ago because Joe produced one of her cd’s and he was promoting it. She’s pretty fantastic.
Joanna Connor just rocks, she should get more attention...maybe she doesn't look like a rock star, kinda looks like my Aunt but form the Delta :) ....Thanks for spreading the music!
Joanna Connor has been a BAD ASS for a long frickin' time!!! Saw her in KC in the 90s... Fantastic player!!! That's frickin' some Blues how it's supposed to be played!!! Feeling EVERYTHING!!!
I am completely mind blown by this woman’s playing. She is one of the greatest guitarists I have ever seen!! I am shocked that strings weren’t breaking and her guitar didn’t break into pieces as hard as she played it. I am completely mind blown!! I just stumbled across this and immediately subscribed to your channel. Thank you so much!! I want to watch it over and over and check out more of her playing!!
This woman just dropped the whole house down on your, our heads. I feel bad for her, she walks like she hurts a lot. I just want to know where she has been all these years. Sebs people make decisions based on appearance and face it she doesn't present well. But those that make determinations based on talent then she kicks the doors down and kills all of us with her playing. I would have loved seeing her whole set. I guess I have to get my 'deep-dive' equipment out and see what I can find. Thanks, Brother for showing this.
I've been a small venue musician for 60 years. Some of the best music I've ever heard was from the big guys and some was by folks you've never heard of, in small venues and backyards---like this!
Sebs, ya gotta check out Roy Clark's, "12th Street Rag." and his version of Johnny Cash' "Folsom Prison Blues" and his "Dueling Banjo's" with Buck Trent. This lady is fantastic. Never heard of her before, but WOW!
Joanna has been playing for years .... had a brief spot in the limelight back in 70's, since then has been flying under the radar. Don't know if that was by choice or not. This video was made a bit ago. Have no idea what she's doing now. Truly talented and a gift to the Blues. She needs her due and be recognized imo.
OMG!!! She is one of the greatest guitarists I have ever seen. Absolutely mindblowing the sounds she makes on that guitar! I honestly thought it was going to burst into flames!!!!
She is freaking awesome. Her voice is very soulful. Her guitar skills are just beyond perfect.So.ebody publish her.Get her on AGT she's a winner.👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍💯💯💯💯💯💯
That was a pleasure watching you discover Joanna Conner. She helped me get through covid with home concerts. She is aslo looking pretty svelte these days. She is well respected with musicians.
Awesome. Have been a fan of Joanna Connor since summer 2017 thanks to TH-cam and and also Facebook proving that so much great music is being recorded today and so many great musicians touring and doing awesome live shows .
Sebs: Love your reactions. before today, it was stuff I had heard. Whe got just a few min in and , truthfully, I blew off your reaction and went and listened to the orig video. Fell down the You Tube Hole .... I completely forgot about everything but this music. Wowza. Please forgive me.
Joanna Connor has been around for decades. I first saw her in South Florida in the 1980s. On top of everything else, she toured with her little kids, as if touring by by yourself isn't hard enough. She always had an awesome band with her.
Since you are on the subject of female Blues guitarists, you should also check out Samantha Fish and Joanne Shaw Taylor! Both women can light the stage on fire with their guitar licks!!
Taj Farrant started at 7 and he just turned 15. Taj is incredibly gifted. They're doing a 40th anniversary tribute to Prince and Purple Rain in a couple of weeks in Minneapolis. Taj was picked as the feature guest artist. He will be opening for the Prince's NPG band and Morris Hayes at Paisley Park. Taj performs Purple Rain as the closing song at his shows. He has had Morris Hayes;the musical director and keyboard player of NPG; play onstage with him a few times. I sent a request during a live for you to watch him playing Parisienne Walkways at The City Winery in Nashville. Taj will have his first album come out in August. He's released 5 original songs Crossroads, Cruz, Bad Trip, House Always Wins and 2x2. He has done this in the past year. The first 4 went to #1 on the iTunes worldwide blues charts. 2x2 went to #1 in Australia and #2 in the US. Taj is a lead guitar player who sings, too.
There are and always have been so many incredibly talented musicians out there who have not achieved the highest levels of attention for a variety of reasons. With women, especially, they have to have a certain "marketable" look (which was why I loved Janis Joplin and why much later I was thrilled to watch Brittany Howard perform with Alabama Shakes, and Miss Bonnie Raitt kept plugging away at college venues for well over a decade before she got her huge break.) All that said, I love TH-cam reactions like this that take a back-yard jam like this and give it a wider audience. Thank you! Support your local musicians!
Yes! I was thinking about Brittany Howard while while watching this.......also Bonnie Raitt. Saw Bonnie in concert twice in the early 70's and was so blown away!
Welcome to the world of people who love Joanna Connor. My husband and I first saw her almost 15 years ago in Michigan at Blues on the Beach in Caseville. She blew us away. (as she did you) We see her every chance we get. She plays Kingston Mines in Chicago on the regular.
Just so you know Sebs... That reaction you had when the guy stepped in front of the camera is the same reaction I make when you stop the song and comment. I really like this format where you just let the video keep playing and you "react" and comment over the music. I also get it that some songs you need to interrupt to get it out without the YT police canceling you. I really like your channel, Dude. Keep up the good work and cool content.
Please do not take this badly, but I am so curious. If you want to hear the song without pauses then why not just listen to the song sans reactor? I mean, a big part of being part of a reactor community is the discussion around the song/artist/lyrics etc. If you don't want that, why do you watch reactions? I am genuinely curious as many people say the same as you when reactors pause and discuss. I myself do not understand.
@@TheeAmethystEmpress6589 Obviously, I can only express my own experience, everyone's mileage varies. I think for me it's really just a pet peeve of mine but so many times, I watch a reaction video and the song is stopped and the reactor tries to convey what they feel the song is about... and 90% of the time they're wrong and if they'd only listened for 15 seconds longer... Anyway... I find myself getting frustrated, I come back and try again... sometimes the format changes, like today which I really enjoyed, and sometimes... I tune out. I guess that's my only gripe really. No disrespect meant or taken.
@OneLiterPeter Thank for responding in kind. I understand what you are saying as I also find myself going " Ahh! Don't pause tjere!" However, I know that I have already heard the song and they don't yet know they just paused and interjected in a less than ideal spot. Therefore, it doesn't bother me, it makes me look forward to the discussion on video and in the comments. I guess I just don't understand why one would bother watching a reactor, knowing this was gonna happen and then critique the reactor for their reaction. Anyway, thanks for answering me 😊
@@TheeAmethystEmpress6589 You're welcome. I agree with what you say apart from critiquing their reaction... I don't think I am per se. There's the reaction, Wow, OMG, gasp, etc and there is commentary. I say react all you want, save the comments for the end. It's what I prefer and possibly what some others would also prefer. That's all.
She sounds a little like Bonny Raitt, both in voice and guitar. Raitt also plays a mean slide guitar. You might try listening to "Thing Called Love." There's another video on TH-cam where she performs with John Lee Hooker on "In the Mood." Talk about legends.
This feels CHICAGO all the way! I can hear this coming from down the alley, walking towards the sound, grabbing a beer and rocking with the block!!!! AMAZINGGGG!!
Seen her in the 90s twice at the rock island brewing company in illinois and went on a blues cruses on the Mississippi river with the band also. I have her Cd's.
I always find watching Adrian Legg play guitar to be absolutely fascinating. You may really enjoy checking him out. He plays hybrid guitars that are combo elect and acoustic. He's english and honestly delightful. I went to see him live years ago and it was a fantastic night of guitar. He's a fingerpicker and is amazing at altered tunings. I'm particularly partial to his song A Waltz for Leah but honestly, he's got ton of great stuff.
She was supposed to do a concert and it came an ice storm only about 9 people showed up and she did the whole concert for those who came out how awesome is that
Now YT is going to the extremes. Was one of the very first matchers of the original video. Last half year I've been rebuilding my house. Then found my old blues records from a time as a poor young man during late 80ies dusted off my old Hifi system, got it installed in a really wife-friendly way in the 4x10 meter living room (laid lengthwise in 3 x 120mm TV white matt neutral IKEA cushions), my old Rotel control- and power amplifiers, and so on. And then the man in the cave here was alone @ home...muuahahaha, completely ready to fire up on my old records. But then I changed my mind - I plug the analogue/digital converter into my smartTV...because I just wanted to listen to this excellent tune from Joanna Connor once again, more than a decade later. ....and then ...before I even clicked into the search field, YT suggests me this video!! I remember that I really enjoyed it then, but that the video has got 12 million views. views?? I'm a happy caveman. Knowing that the blues are still good makes my day. Also this reaction, never been on this channel before, but hereby subbed. Greets from Denmark
This has happened for most of my life!! Been playing with the best of the ATL since the late 70’s. Have had the pleasure of playing with the best around.
To me this video is like your favorite aunty jumping on stage and saying “let me show you sompin!” These are my favorite kinds of videos to watch on TH-cam!
Brooooooo!!!!!!!! Could you imagine being their neighbor?!?! Holy crap I wish I could get them to play at my summer cookout/pool party! That would be epic AF!!! Oh, new subscriber here! Glad I came across your channel!! Love the vibe!!
I would like to see a close-up of just her face reminds me of that Facebook thread, where that woman plays this beautiful song and she gives all this facial emotions. This woman exemplifies everything she did, great rock ‘n’ roll and no, I didn’t expect it from her.
I would by far rather go listen to this than at a stadium concert with whatever pop singer is on tour around the world right now. Here they are PLAYING MUSIC!
As the OG vid title sez: Don't judge a book by it's cover, ^5!😛 I just did a search and it appears the title now is what you currently show. But when I first saw this years ago it was titled as above. Ballin'! Joanna's been around for a while or two, possibly three or more :)
Go to Kinston Mines in Chicago and you're bound to see her. It's her home away from home. Btw I believe this is Nick's outdoor summer band space in Chicago. Not just someone's backyard
She's been around for a long time. Joanna Connor (born 1962)
15 Albums (1989 - 2021)
She's one of those 'hidden gems'.
Also 2 Singles (1995, 2021) and a Best of Me (2023)

Hold my beer - let me show you what a woman can do. THAT was a guitar master class. Mic dropped.
Holy cow, that was amazing! I wish they would have gotten a closer camera shot of her guitar work......WOW!!
You couldn't pay me any amount of money to take a VIP ticket to a Taylor Swift concert, but I'd pay a million bucks to see Joanna Connor any day.

She’s been around for at least 40 years dude. She’s from Chicago and lives in Jamaica. One of the best most humble guitarists of our time!
Amazing guitarist!! You go girl!!
CHICAGO, 1970 at Tangelwood, the late Terri Kath guitar solo. 25 or 6 to 4. Check it out.
I love the drummer just chillin back there like, go ahead baby I'm wicha.
Check out Nuno Bettencourt the guitarist for Extreme, he plays w the soul of a drummer😉
Nuno is probably the most technically talented metal guitarist alive
This was 9 years ago!!!! Looking forward to seeing more, I subbed to the original clip's channel.
Saw her perform at the Alpena Blues Festival. She is a awesom guitarist.
Love this !!!
So sweet!!
I’ve seen her perform live a couple times unbelievable
You need to watch Roy Clark or Glen Campbell for some amazing guitar picking and Paul Simon for esoteric guitar chords.
To me this video is like your favorite aunty jumping on stage and saying “let me show you sompin!” These are my favorite kinds of videos to watch on TH-cam!
Got chills when the piece started after the intro!
Brooooooo!!!!!!!! Could you imagine being their neighbor?!?! Holy crap I wish I could get them to play at my summer cookout/pool party! That would be epic AF!!! Oh, new subscriber here! Glad I came across your channel!! Love the vibe!!
She is the kind of artist that should be a SUPERSTAR!
As the OG vid title sez: Don't judge a book by it's cover, ^5!😛
I just did a search and it appears the title now is what you currently show.
But when I first saw this years ago it was titled as above. Ballin'!
Joanna's been around for a while or two, possibly three or more :)
I felt the same way my first time ..... that I saw that vid. =)) Amazing talent.
Oh yeah. This is my kinda music. Love it. I also like what Chantel McGregor did/ does with the guitar.
JUST DAAAAMMM !! What a talent and the band is TIGHT TOO 😵💫😵💫😳😳👍👍👍
The awestruck look on your face at the end…priceless.
Blind Slidin' Sebs
Have you seen Roy Clark playing Malaguena? It's a must see!
I have to agree with you. Time for Sebs to be blown away by Roy!
Great reaction Sebs but if you liked this you simply will be left speechless by Tina S Through the Fire and Flames cover.
Tina S is an unbelievable guitarist.
Have to go look her up. That was the stuff….. this is why I love watching reactions, just never know when you will run across talent like that.
That was cool!!!! I new nothing about her? GREAT SUGGESTION ❤
I saw this woman live about 5 years ago out in Indiana PA she's got a whole lot blues soul!!
Go to Kinston Mines in Chicago and you're bound to see her. It's her home away from home. Btw I believe this is Nick's outdoor summer band space in Chicago. Not just someone's backyard
This video has been in our regular rotation for years!
I've seen her play at Kingston Mines in Chicago a dozen times. She's awesome.
