George Washington's Secret Six: The Spy Ring That Saved the American Revolution | Brian Kilmeade

  • When General George Washington beat a hasty retreat from New York City in August 1776, many assumed the American Revolution was over. Realizing he could never beat the British military with might alone, Washington instead turned to a network of spies to out-maneuver his opponents. Tapping previously unpublished research, Fox News Channel's Brian Kilmeade and co-author Don Yaeger uncover the gripping history of six amazing Patriots -- dubbed by George Washington the Culper Spy Ring -- who risked their lives for our freedom. So carefully guarded were the members' identities that one spy's name was not uncovered until the 20th Century, and one remains unknown to this day.

I'm a member of the DAR, (daughters of the American Revolution) which is a group where you must prove your lineage back to a person that served in the American Revolution, on the Colonies side. Therefore, I have done much research in my own family history as well as learning about that time period itself, because it's always been an interest of mine. I have watched the series TURN on AMC about 5-6 times through, i was obsessed, so I then read this book. Then last summer, as I was researching I found that I AM RELATED ABRAHAM WOODHULL! I Richard Woodhull the second is my 10th great grandfather. I am related through the Jayne family that had a farm near the Woodhull's and brewsters on Long Island. The Jaynes were also patriots and served the cause in different ways. So I am so so thankful for this book, the findings, and the history that has come to light! My goal is to someday make it to Long Island!

My ancestor, Frank Fleiss, was one of the Italian Green Coat Spies working for George Washington in getting all of the dirt on the British Army during the American Revolutionary War.

Those Turn fans out there may recall Robert Rogers, the antagonist who first tries to hunt down and destroy the Culper Spy Ring but ends up helping them. His adventures are synopsised here -

He's not a historian, he admits the publication of the letters, a primary source he did not uncover. Also a book on the same subject By Alexander Rose was published well before his book. A secondary source much relied on, as well as a cowriter.

Major Andre did meet with Benedict Arnold because he had a note from Benedict Arnold on his person. At least that's my understanding if I'm wrong please correct me.

I watched a retired CIA operative discuss his own book on this same topic, and he referred to this book here as historical fiction with deep disdain and I have to agree 😂😂😂 this dude doesn’t help his case by saying he wanted to tell this story the same way he tells stories on fox and friends- some truth wrapped up in sensationalism and patriotic exaggeration. All his nonsense about 355 is speculation and many assertions in the book are flat out fiction. Not saying it wasn’t a page turner or that I didn’t enjoy it- I sure did- but this book has a whole lot of fiction sprinkled on top of its facts, and people should know that going in.

@EnemyOfReligion2012- He comes across better than the man that introduced him. Yikes. That doesn't mean I'm a Kilmeade fan, though.

That's such tiresome hyperbole. They did not "save" the American Revolution. Thry made significant contributions, but that kind of exaggeration indicates an amateur.
