- The recent political episodes in Edo state have continued to generate nationwide concerns and spark controversies as its upcoming gubernatorial elections draws nearer.
One of these episodes was the impeachment of deputy governor, Philip shaibu by the state House of Assembly on April 8, 2024 over allegations of gross misconduct and disclosure of government's secrets
However, the court reinstated him back to office and he officially announced his defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

How did this man become a NANS president, house of assembly member, house of reps member, and deputy governor, how did he graduate from school. I think the question to Shaibu should be what went sour between him and his principal who gave him free hand to run the government as coequal. There is no deputy governor in the history of Nigeria that is as popular as Shaibu because of how his principal projected him. In reality Shaibu was said to be behind most move by the Obaseki's government. One of the house of assembly member that weren't inaugurated said on live tv that Shaibu was behind it all and Obaseki took the blame. When they defected to the PDP, PDP said they are ready to accept Obaseki as the governorship candidate but someone else not Shaibu as deputy. Obaseki said is either Shaibu or no one else and Obaseki did everything possible for both of them to be on the ballot. When Wike talked down on Shaibu, Obaseki responded to Wike immediately and reprimanded him. Obaseki had in some many ways demonstrated commitment to Shaibu. Why will Obaseki want him dead? I think the issue is Obaseki said to Shaibu, Oshomole from Edo North has govern Edo, himself from Edo south has govern lets give it up to Edo central for equity purpose and Shaibu says Emi lo kan. That's were the wahala started. Some people had said Shaibu is desperate and ungrateful and that he should have seen reason with his principal.
Who brought both him and his principal to power? Are not in Nigeria when both Phillip and his master Obasike told Oshomole not to enter Edo state?

You were in the state house of assembly, House of Representatives, and you became deputy governor. You should thank your God. What is Shaibu 's problems?
He keeps making a mountain out of a molehills.
Oshiomole from Edo North had 8 years as governor of Edo state.
He Philip Shaibu from the same Edo North ( Uzairue ) and a Kinsman of Oshiomole was already closing another 8 years as deputy governor until he was impeached by the Edo state House of Assembly due to misconduct.
Meanwhile, the position for governor that the current election is being organized is zoned to Edo central ( Esan ) but Shaibu keeps fighting even at the expense of destabilizing a peaceful state.
Shaibu by his recalcitrant behaviour is setting wrong examples for Deputy Governors in Nigeria to copy.
If majority of the deputy governor or Vice behave the way Shaibu is behaving then who then need a Deputy Governor or Vice?
