      It is not actually true that the entire plant dies after one season and one yield of fruit. It would be more accurate to say that a limb of the plant can only produce one yield of up to 200 bananas. In addition, each plant will have one limb at any given time. The plant can regrow a new limb to replace the old and start the process again from there.
      It is very true that this process produces far more agricultural waste when compared to other crops.
      The reason that it appears as if a whole tree is felled per season is because rather than being a tree, the ‘stalk’ that supports the bananas is actually made of very tightly wrapped leaves. Bananas don’t actually grow on trees at all, but rather grow on these tightly wrapped leaves that form a stalk.
      There is only one stalk per season per plant. The root system can remain completely intact in order to regrow for the next season.
      Since the root system can remain intact to produce a new stem, the plant itself does not die.
      I spent much of my childhood in Bundaberg Australia where bananas would be grown every season. I will say that the waste I witnessed every season as a result of the banana harvest truly was immense.

      Leviticus‬ ‭18:22‬ ‭KJV‬‬
      Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination. Ephesians 6:10-18 says, Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; and your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints. The bible is no old book. You have to really let Christ open your eyes; to see the world in shambles. Many people say it's a religion to lock up people in chains, and say it's a rule book.. why? Because people hate hearing the truth, it hurts their flesh, it's hurts their pride, it's exposes on what things have they done..people love this world so much, s*x, money, power, women, supercars.. things of this world. Still trying to find something that can fill that emptiness in your heart. You can't find that in this world.. only in Christ, the bible is no chains, it's a chainbreaker. Breaking your sins into pieces... Repent now, and turn back to the true Lord only.. God bless.

    Boil the extracted fibers in a solution of water and soda ash or caustic soda. This removes impurities and starts the process of whitening the fibers.
    After boiling, thoroughly wash the fibers with clean water and rinse multiple times.
    If you desire a brighter white, you can use a natural bleach like hydrogen peroxide or sunlight exposure. Keep in mind that aggressive bleaching may weaken the fibers.
    Beating:
    Pound the fibers using a mallet or similar tool to soften them and make them fluffier. This helps to break down the fibers into a more cotton-like consistency.
    Carding:
    Card the fibers to further separate them and align in one direction. This is similar to how wool is carded before spinning. You can use hand carders or a drum carder for this.
    Forming Balls:
    Once the fibers are carded and have a fluffy consistency, you can tease them into ball-like shapes to resemble cotton balls.

    Plants are amazing. So much better than plastic. Bananas are fast growing and once the plant produces the bananas it's a stalk which can't ever produce any more bananas, so they are perfect for that "second life". Power to plants and please don't package them in plastic!

    • @Amos_Quito
      @Amos_Quito ปีที่แล้ว +8

      That's not true. You chop the plant down the stem diagonally after you harvest and the it regrows.

    • @tosca...
      @tosca... ปีที่แล้ว +18

      @@Amos_Quito I think you might be referring to the aesthetics of a banana plant in a garden where you cut off old damaged foliage? You don't get a large bunch of bananas again the way you have achieved in the original crop. If we're talking about the massive amount of non plastic production needed for these products in India, then it's not very efficient production is it? My knowledge comes from commercial Cavendish banana production in mid North Coast, NSW, Australia, so I'm certainly no expert on all bananas

    • @Amos_Quito
      @Amos_Quito ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@tosca... no, not old damaged foliage. It's the same with a plantain plant. After harvest when you cut it down it regrows a new bunch. Now that you mentioned it, im not sure if the subsequent harvests are smaller than the initial. But bananas and plantains will definitely regrow and produce fruit, only if u chop it diagonally somewhere around the middle.

    • @tosca...
      @tosca... ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@Amos_Quito Lol, I doubt you and I will resolve this. Yes, from the research I've done (a bit random because I'm a bit short on time), banana plants can produce pups (baby plants after fruiting). But not all bananas are equal, since there are many varieties, some much more valuable because of better fruit than others. Plantains have different growth habits than commercial bananas as far as I can tell, even though they are the same family.
      So while you have a point about properly pruned plants being able to produce more bananas, they are likely to be a smaller hand. A commercial hand of bananas average 240 bananas. If in commercial production, it's not worthwhile cultivating smaller hands from a previous plant unless it is a heritage banana or some other worthwhile variety needed on a smaller scale for a smaller market. Plantains are cultivated and eaten in very particular ways in different parts of the world (Africa, South Pacific, Brazil) because they are quite different to commercial bananas, such as Cavendish, the dominant banana in Australia.
      Now, let's return to the actual story here. The banana is being cut down after its main crop in a country with 1.4 billion people in which 48.5% are female. The male/female differential is likely because of infanticide and domestic violence. My back of envelope calculation is there are about 300 million childbearing aged women in India who are in need of feminine hygiene products. To use products which are not plastic based or plastic packaged for such a huge part of the population is a real gain for the environment. Using banana plants which are one crop wonders ie: fast growing in one year in a predominantly warm climate, is very efficient. The outcome is a highly needed secondary product without the use of plastic produced from the banana stems. The production of 300 million feminine hygiene products x 12 times per year will obviously require a massive upscalling of production because it equals the need for 3.6 billion items to supply the female childbearing population. In other words, cultivating banana pups in India when the secondary purpose is so good for the planet and in such high demand. Grow a maximum of one banana plant for a maximum of bananas for a population of 1.4 billion and then produce a maximum of 3.6 billion feminine hygiene products which are produced in a very positive way for the planet. That's a win which banana pups will not help in production for any good value for products needed in such massive numbers. Sorry for the pups, but this new form of production is fantastic and should be used in first world countries too, not just in a developing economy like India.

      "panties" what are we, 5? The only people that call them "panties" where I live are toddlers & condescending men. Lets normalise real, adult names for female underwear first, shall we? They're called "pants" or "underwear", same as for mens! We don't need childish names for female private part related items do we! That's not normalising anything!
      As for reusables vs disposables, yes, in the developed world, for the rich, who have easy access to hygiene, such as running water & washing machines, these can be good, but there's a LOT of people in the world who do NOT have access to this & it's straight out dangerous to use diva cups without access to proper handwashing facilities! Likewise it's unsafe & smelly & humiliating for women to be forced to use reusable pants for their period when they don't have adequate facilities to wash them between wears.
      We should have access to a wide variety of products to be able to choose the ones that best suit our needs & lifestyle. There is no environmental harm in using banana stem disposable products is there! So lets not humiliate the homeless & poor by trying to tell them they're harming the environment by not using the pants that the rich hippies have decided are "best". Women should be putting their welfare first & using what is right & safest for them!
      & lets face it, the waste from disposable period products is nothing compared to the waste from disposable nappies & society in general. Nappies also have to be hygienic, many countries already have unacceptably high baby death rates from infections, lets not increase it with unsanitary nappies, but that is generally an easier option to address than menstrual prducts is & far fewer need to be changed to have the same environmental impact, plus the poor tend to already be using reusable products there, it's the rich that use disposable plastic products for added convenience & they, of course, are a group more than capable of switching without harming anyone's health!
