They went to a pack-centric content model thinking it'd increase stub sales, and maybe it did. But it also killed their player count and a lot of the goodwill they had built with the player base. You mentioned it's the earliest people have stopped playing - I usually play through Thanksgiving but stopped in June this year when S2 dropped, no plans to come back.

SDS seriously underestimated how many people want to play Diamond Dynasty offline. When there is no content to grind, like consistent programs, those players simply stop logging on.
Totally agree, we aren’t complaining because we always want more. We are complaing because we know this studio knows how to make a good game and have done it multiple times in the past. But now it feels like they just don’t care about the community and strayed so far away from what made the older games so special.

Well, despite the buzz outside this game, i think SDS was AWARE of the impending CF game, and have saturated the market with high-priced, low-rated cards, waiting until Aug on when the 99's will permeate the MLB:TS marketplace...the stubs will drop in price (a 50% sale THIS time) and cost of cards equally will drop. Come November & December when most cards will be 99"s we'll have the refreshed opportunity to finish our collections we couldn't do 8 mos ago...This is WHY I call this game "pay-to-play" and it cannot be stressed enough. Casual game players (who ONLY buy the game, NOT stubs) get kicked to the curb and told...we DON'T matter! THIS YEAR, if you don't pay $30K-$40K for packs (some you get what you get and cannot sell even if you get a dupe, you can only Quick sell it) you also are kicked to the curb. This game is all about making money and profit, its no longer OUR entertainment, it's THEIR entertainment. I think that if they wanna do the power creep make it exclusive to ranked. Make it so we can only use 85-90s for a week or two, and then next ranked make it 85-97 and then so on. I can understand how they don’t want us using the same cards for ranked but everything else it makes no sense to restart our teams.

The community and content creators have nobody to blame except themselves for the mess that mlb the show 24 is. MLB 23 was one of the best sports games I’ve ever played and it kept me engaged all the way until late February. The 99s on day 1 was revolutionary and the reason I started playing the show and i know im not the only one that migrated over in 23 due to 99s on day 1. The problem with 24 is that SDS listened to the content creators and some of the community about having too many 99 rated cards, having so many programs that it felt like homework, and how it would be nice to go back to a power creep. Unfortunately, SDS listened and they gave us mlb the show 24 and now everyone is complaining because SDS literally gave the community what they wanted.

I think 21 was the most put together game. So many collections that actually encouraged you to collect cards. I don't know which big wig thought this was a good idea at SDS but they need to be fired ASAP
Honestly SDS should be sued for selling a rebranded 23 game full price in 24. The games content is very half assed along with all the other bullshit mentioned in these comments. Gameplay in my opinion is the worst it’s ever been with early and late dinks up the middle. Online ranked I’ve lost probably 5 or 6 games to players that find a way to just dink everything up the middle. The lack of programs is BS. The graphics engine needs an update badly and SDS is too damn cheap to invest in actual servers that can handle the damn game. If they would have been honest and said hey we need more financial success this year to completely revamp everything for a meaningful 25 I would understand. But they just disappeared AND lied to us while not offering a beta version of the game or pre release whatever it’s called. Fully knowing if they did sales wouldn’t have come through. They showed a couple of fake plays where the first baseman throws to home quickly yet in real play, the fielders just stand around and then throw it to the base after picking their nose and eating their boogers? I was with you until you said add more packs to the programs. Why are packs so relevant to most of the content creators this year? What do packs do? Why should everyone have the same teams, which was a big issue in years past due to the amount of packs put into the content, to now people are mad they are not getting more packs? The game was great in the past programs because of packs? Pick your position, more packs and same teams by Mid July or grind and make the game more of a challenge? Most people would pick the first as it requires less work and kills the game faster.. and yet most of y’all were complaint the game was easier.. which is it?
I like it how each season has a reward path. I think they should get rid of sets. And bring back older programs from previous mlb the shows. Like an evolution program with different players. And bring back the proper potm and topps now programs.

Here are some of my thoughts that could save the year: 1. Tuesday programs every week or every other week (even if they're short programs it means free cards, stubs and packs) 2. Events last one week with the player reward capped at 10 wins with packs and stub vouchers beyond that player reward win threshold (Example: 15 wins could equal a 25k stub voucher and 20 wins gets you a 50k stub voucher, 30 wins equal 75 or 100k and 35 wins gets you a stub voucher pack that can be anywhere from 25k minimum to 500k stubs) 3. Season awards should not only have the current week's pack but also last week's pack in it (current week could be sellable while the previous week is a no sell one) (1st week's drop for every season should have a pack or allow us to use a previous season awards player to get the season awards PXP/stats and force us to buy a player out of the pack) As far as next year, bring back the evolution series, daily moments program every month, player programs (I'm taking ideas I spotted in MLB '21 for the short amount of time I explored the game's DD mode). Bring back the core collection from '23 that made doing the U.S. conquest map matter. These are only my two cents on this.
Bro, here are my hour totals since I picked up this game in '20: 2020 (300 hours played), 2021 (500+ hours played), 2022 (700+ hours played), 2023 (900+ hours played), 2024 (100 hours played - mostly franchise). $D$ has ruined this year's game with sets and seasons.
I have always said to make theme teams usable. I am a Brewers fan and would love to play with a full Brewers team that I collected this year. But I can't because I can only at max use 4 of the best cards I collected in season 1 for season 2. It's dumb.
My question is - given that this year’s game was seemingly rushed out with no legends and then included very little content and gameplay issues, should it have been released at all? It seems clear to me that there have been significant revenue issues at SDS. I would not be at all surprised if the show pauses for a year and another developer picks up the game. I also agree that captains have negatively impacted the game. I don’t bother using them as you have to replace better cards with worse replacements to fit specific captain requirements.
They need to provide a better duo ranked where you and your friends can actually manage a whole duo diamond dynasty team. And there be an actual counted record of W-L. That will bring a refreshment to this game. It allows more people to play with their friends and would be a fun grind to make it to the World Series in ranked. No one talks about this
Agree with your list completely. I would also add removing the xp cap at this point in the life of the game. 15K a day when over 60 99 overall cards could be used for a wild card. I don't see how removing teh xp cap would break the game at this point. To add to your questions about the legend cards, where is the 4th wild card spot??? We are over a month into season 2 and they have yet to tell us how to get the 4th wild card
All very reasonable suggestions, that I have no argument against. That being said, I personally enjoy the gameplay more than last year. The pitching RNG was out of control. It didn't matter if you threw a perfect release greg maddux sinker, you had no control where the ball was going. I had to stop playing in May last year, I'm still playing this game.. for now.
$D$ is just going to try to get its player base that is left to spend $$$$ that’s all they care about this year ! Do not see anything changing update those uniforms
Couldn’t agree more. Another part of the whole pack first content model is that their packs are absolutely atrocious. They are so boring and not worth buying ever. I am so tired of buying a random card versus buying a pack with multiple cards in it and chances to pull really any card. Every choice pack should pull from the entire library of cards in the game and have 5 cards in it. And then there being increased odds to pull the newest cards. Or guaranteed base round with 4 other cards that could potentially be any card dropped previously. They want/need to push packs, yet have the most unimaginative, awful pack opening experience that even when the packs have good cards as options, are still not worth buying.
When they started putting equipment and stuff into packs, it also ruined everything. Why the literal fuck do we get bat skins from packs when there's NO POINT IN THEM? Yeah, you can collect enough to get another bat skin and some stubs, but once that's done, they have no point in this game. They should be just in offline packs for RTTS since that is the only mode they're really needed for.

It looks like those are on the way out as it is…Obviously, they were worth getting in standard packs previously because the collections for them used to matter more than they do now and you could use CAPs in DD. But, now with CAPs out and the collections being weakened, they really are just in packs out of laziness to change them and to try to convert RTTS offline players over to DD to at least try to grind for some free packs. Also, they have a RTTS-specific pack marketplace now, so they might start to phase out the ball player equipment stuff and offline things out of the packs in DD in the future. But, agree. No reason for them to be there really anymore which just makes their packs even worse.
Also the reason we don't have 99 versions of the legends is because they only allow us to earn 99s for 4 out of every 12 weeks of the season. Such a stupid decision. Edit: there's three new series, you forgot standout. Can't blame you as it's basically just breakout/2nd half heroes with a different color.
Game went to hell when they made any grindable choice pack in a program no-sell - who cares if someone gets the BR card from grinding the program? People who are good enough to go flawless, who cried about program grinders being able to sell their grinded cards, will never be stub poor. Give the player base full freedom over their inventory and what they grind to keep/sell

Im in the minority of still enjoying this game. But, i do see the issues. What frustrates me is that for people who dont play much at all the xp path is super long. For people who play alot, we will have the xp path done in about a week. Fix this by sprading out each boss at 300k, 600k, 900k. At the very least this will make dudes who are falling behind happier and as a guy who plays alot it wont bother me that other peole have the cards i have

Old games were not as overly pack-centric and the best cards were VERY obtainable. There were more programs (sometimes two per week) and just better content decisions overall. This is a far cry from what MLB used to be
Mini seasons would only be good if they let us play in quick mode. All the cut scenes literally kill it for me. I had to slog through the classic MS and it took me like 2 weeks because I got so god damn bored and I could only play maybe 3 games at a time. GARBAGE!!!!

Well I think this game has zero chance to survive obviously people will play once or twice every few days but with ncaa 25 madden cod coming out there’s no reason to play besides getting on every once and a while this game stands no chance they should really just work on 25 and keep course on 24
You’re inherently breaking the game. When an 89 is useless. What’s the point in having a line up of all 90’s? It gets to the point where you’re upset that everyone in the lineup is not raking. I feel like of all my issues with this game, 87 captain cards are easily at the bottom of the list. If everyone had every captain what would even be the point? To each their own, but if everyone had the same boost every time is it even really a boost? Too much handicapping there imo. These programs are absolute garbage though i for sure agree there.
You can make theme team matter with both captains. My Rangers theme team is just as good as my God squad, but I have so few multi-captain teams that I can only cycle through a couple. It's not fun. Captains should be free. We should all have 60 core captains at this point. It's fking ridiculous.
Easy answer, no. This year's game cannot be salvaged. SDS has proven they're not changing the content model and it's already showed to be garbage. I'm putting in maybe 10% of play time on it this year and I'm only doing that because I still love baseball. My goal is to P5 all the Rangers but that won't happen because there isn't enough to do. I don't play BR or Events and I'm 15-3 in ranked. I don't do a lot of online, so beyond that, there's nothing left to do but franchise. RTTS is a joke and I'll never touch that trash mode. SDS is at a moment where they need to figure out how they're going to define themselves for the next decade. MTX forever and move towards Madden and FIFA or go back to it's roots and make a game that's actually fun to play? Time will tell. Edit: All Captain cards should be free. I agree 100% that seasons and CPT cards have ruined it. The cpt cards have warranted SDS dropping terrible cards because the boosts save them.

I was with you until you said add more packs to the programs. Why are packs so relevant to most of the content creators this year? What do packs do? Why should everyone have the same teams, which was a big issue in years past due to the amount of packs put into the content, to now people are mad they are not getting more packs? The game was great in the past programs because of packs? Pick your position, more packs and same teams by Mid July or grind and make the game more of a challenge? Most people would pick the first as it requires less work and kills the game faster.. and yet most of y’all were complaint the game was easier.. which is it?
I like it how each season has a reward path. I think they should get rid of sets. And bring back older programs from previous mlb the shows. Like an evolution program with different players. And bring back the proper potm and topps now programs.

Here are some of my thoughts that could save the year: 1. Tuesday programs every week or every other week (even if they're short programs it means free cards, stubs and packs) 2. Events last one week with the player reward capped at 10 wins with packs and stub vouchers beyond that player reward win threshold (Example: 15 wins could equal a 25k stub voucher and 20 wins gets you a 50k stub voucher, 30 wins equal 75 or 100k and 35 wins gets you a stub voucher pack that can be anywhere from 25k minimum to 500k stubs) 3. Season awards should not only have the current week's pack but also last week's pack in it (current week could be sellable while the previous week is a no sell one) (1st week's drop for every season should have a pack or allow us to use a previous season awards player to get the season awards PXP/stats and force us to buy a player out of the pack)
As far as next year, bring back the evolution series, daily moments program every month, player programs (I'm taking ideas I spotted in MLB '21 for the short amount of time I explored the game's DD mode). Bring back the core collection from '23 that made doing the U.S. conquest map matter. These are only my two cents on this.
Bro, here are my hour totals since I picked up this game in '20: 2020 (300 hours played), 2021 (500+ hours played), 2022 (700+ hours played), 2023 (900+ hours played), 2024 (100 hours played - mostly franchise). $D$ has ruined this year's game with sets and seasons.

I have always said to make theme teams usable. I am a Brewers fan and would love to play with a full Brewers team that I collected this year. But I can't because I can only at max use 4 of the best cards I collected in season 1 for season 2. It's dumb.
My question is - given that this year’s game was seemingly rushed out with no legends and then included very little content and gameplay issues, should it have been released at all? It seems clear to me that there have been significant revenue issues at SDS. I would not be at all surprised if the show pauses for a year and another developer picks up the game. I also agree that captains have negatively impacted the game. I don’t bother using them as you have to replace better cards with worse replacements to fit specific captain requirements.
No tech test was an obvious point that nothing was changing this year. That was bad news right from the start.

They need to provide a better duo ranked where you and your friends can actually manage a whole duo diamond dynasty team. And there be an actual counted record of W-L. That will bring a refreshment to this game.
It allows more people to play with their friends and would be a fun grind to make it to the World Series in ranked.

Agree with your list completely. I would also add removing the xp cap at this point in the life of the game. 15K a day when over 60 99 overall cards could be used for a wild card. I don't see how removing teh xp cap would break the game at this point. To add to your questions about the legend cards, where is the 4th wild card spot??? We are over a month into season 2 and they have yet to tell us how to get the 4th wild card

Been having a blast. Game has been super fun.
All very reasonable suggestions, that I have no argument against.
That being said, I personally enjoy the gameplay more than last year. The pitching RNG was out of control. It didn't matter if you threw a perfect release greg maddux sinker, you had no control where the ball was going.
I had to stop playing in May last year, I'm still playing this game.. for now.

Couldn’t agree more. Another part of the whole pack first content model is that their packs are absolutely atrocious. They are so boring and not worth buying ever. I am so tired of buying a random card versus buying a pack with multiple cards in it and chances to pull really any card. Every choice pack should pull from the entire library of cards in the game and have 5 cards in it. And then there being increased odds to pull the newest cards. Or guaranteed base round with 4 other cards that could potentially be any card dropped previously.
They want/need to push packs, yet have the most unimaginative, awful pack opening experience that even when the packs have good cards as options, are still not worth buying.
When they started putting equipment and stuff into packs, it also ruined everything. Why the literal fuck do we get bat skins from packs when there's NO POINT IN THEM? Yeah, you can collect enough to get another bat skin and some stubs, but once that's done, they have no point in this game. They should be just in offline packs for RTTS since that is the only mode they're really needed for.

It looks like those are on the way out as it is…Obviously, they were worth getting in standard packs previously because the collections for them used to matter more than they do now and you could use CAPs in DD. But, now with CAPs out and the collections being weakened, they really are just in packs out of laziness to change them and to try to convert RTTS offline players over to DD to at least try to grind for some free packs. Also, they have a RTTS-specific pack marketplace now, so they might start to phase out the ball player equipment stuff and offline things out of the packs in DD in the future.
But, agree. No reason for them to be there really anymore which just makes their packs even worse.

Game went to hell when they made any grindable choice pack in a program no-sell - who cares if someone gets the BR card from grinding the program? People who are good enough to go flawless, who cried about program grinders being able to sell their grinded cards, will never be stub poor. Give the player base full freedom over their inventory and what they grind to keep/sell

I don’t know I get the whole we want the games to be good again. But I mean people will always complain about this game you can’t change that. And people have every right to their opinion. But in all honesty this game is a product of people complaining about the games in years past. People complained about previous year games and so SDS tried to innovate and try something new and now look we have people saying o go back to MLB 21 and dropping content for 21, 22, 23 when we’re in 24. I don’t know I just think no matter what happens to this game people will never be happy. and it makes me sad

Im in the minority of still enjoying this game. But, i do see the issues. What frustrates me is that for people who dont play much at all the xp path is super long.
For people who play alot, we will have the xp path done in about a week.
Fix this by sprading out each boss at 300k, 600k, 900k.
At the very least this will make dudes who are falling behind happier and as a guy who plays alot it wont bother me that other peole have the cards i have

Old games were not as overly pack-centric and the best cards were VERY obtainable. There were more programs (sometimes two per week) and just better content decisions overall. This is a far cry from what MLB used to be

Mini seasons would only be good if they let us play in quick mode. All the cut scenes literally kill it for me. I had to slog through the classic MS and it took me like 2 weeks because I got so god damn bored and I could only play maybe 3 games at a time. GARBAGE!!!!

Well I think this game has zero chance to survive obviously people will play once or twice every few days but with ncaa 25 madden cod coming out there’s no reason to play besides getting on every once and a while this game stands no chance they should really just work on 25 and keep course on 24
You’re inherently breaking the game. When an 89 is useless. What’s the point in having a line up of all 90’s? It gets to the point where you’re upset that everyone in the lineup is not raking. The gameplay loop on the field should be the common denominator. Your are breaking gameplay with all these cards

I love the game but am so disgusted with the content creators. I don’t think they have a clue about baseball. They leave off so many legends and just keep using the same ones over and over. Where is Daryl Strawberry, Manny Ramirez, Albert Belle, Dustin Pedroia, even Bonds and Canseco whom I’m sure they act like are banned but would be so awesome to see. The programs they put in the game suck. The need some sort of creativity when doing something on here. Seems they don’t give a damn

I have both captains for a braves theme team and the castillio and i love my theme team..it makes everyone usable and honestly having a blast❤ but the card there releasing r worse than a babies dirty diepy😂😂😂

I feel like of all my issues with this game, 87 captain cards are easily at the bottom of the list. If everyone had every captain what would even be the point? To each their own, but if everyone had the same boost every time is it even really a boost? Too much handicapping there imo. These programs are absolute garbage though i for sure agree there.
You can make theme team matter with both captains. My Rangers theme team is just as good as my God squad, but I have so few multi-captain teams that I can only cycle through a couple. It's not fun. Captains should be free. We should all have 60 core captains at this point. It's fking ridiculous.

Easy answer, no. This year's game cannot be salvaged. SDS has proven they're not changing the content model and it's already showed to be garbage. I'm putting in maybe 10% of play time on it this year and I'm only doing that because I still love baseball. My goal is to P5 all the Rangers but that won't happen because there isn't enough to do. I don't play BR or Events and I'm 15-3 in ranked. I don't do a lot of online, so beyond that, there's nothing left to do but franchise. RTTS is a joke and I'll never touch that trash mode. SDS is at a moment where they need to figure out how they're going to define themselves for the next decade. MTX forever and move towards Madden and FIFA or go back to it's roots and make a game that's actually fun to play? Time will tell.
Edit: All Captain cards should be free. We shouldn't have to complete BR or Ranked programs to get captain cards. How ridiculous is that?
