Looks like a great reel. Looking forward to the tear down tomorrow. Thanks again for introducing me to another reel that I probably wouldn't have heard about anywhere else.
I am very impressed with your channel and have installed a number of your parts on my reels. The Kastking Rover is an excellent product for the money. It's only shortcoming is the centrifugal breaks are vastly inferior to the Abu and Akios system. I corrected that on my 50 and 60 size by installing one of your mono mags. The bigger sizes 70, 80, 90 don't have any braking system at all. The levelwind is inadequate for the job when fighting something large enough to warrent going up to this size and it lacks the clamping bracket making you have to rely on the strength of the reel seat. A good size (5 ft ) bull shark busted the reel seat on my Diawa Beefstick Rod and stripped the levelwind. The 3 smaller sizes are excellent
I’ve had my eye on kastking reels for a while now… They seem like really great quality for the money thanks for the video. I really like the thumb screws btw…
The only think the ABU has on the Kastking is the ABU has a free spool spool the Kastking has the attached axle to the spool which just hinders the spool a tad but can be over come by a top set of Boca bearings for the Kastking .
Hi from NY here, I currently own The KK Royale Legend 2 GT Baitcaster Reel, The KK Rover 70 Conventional Reel, The Sharky 3- 5000 Baitfinder Spinning Reel and The Sharky 3-6000 Baitfinder Spinning Reel.. These are all Damned good Reels. I'll be Eyeballing The KK Rover 40 soon. Anyhow here is a Pointer, Grease the wormgear every time your done fishing on the KK Baitcaster Reels and KK Rover Conventional Reels.. The worm gear is located right underneath the level winder that guides the fishing line on the spool. I subscribed please do same, great job on the video, can't wait for the breakdown video.
Guess they're not giving away any extra goodie bits anymore. I just now received the two that I ordered and I got the two new reels and two reel bags, nothing more. That's okay though because I already had two pre owned ones and these are my first new ones. What I saved in the 15% off and free shipping, they can keep the hat and lure. Kastking reels rock!
I own service and customize many abu's. I can honestly say after disassembly my rover 60 that I am very impressed with the quality of parts kastking uses. Abu has been relying on the same technology for years,I think abu might want to step up there game, but when they do it will be to costly.
I own four of these. Two 60s, a 50, and an 80. They are fantastic and the price is right. I compared the 60 to my Abu 6500 C3 and I measured up completely. Casting was equivalent. The drag is actually a little better than the Abu. The clicker is better too than the Abu. The 80 has had the level wind removed and it will require a mag to control it. I'm gonna add ceramic bearings and a 12 mm Mag. My 60 brought in a 35 lb black drum without any problem.
I ordered one iv got around 15 ambassadeurs 65 up to the 90s I realy like them iv had one 6000c for 25 years it's still like new but these kastking seem to be made well I just ordered one the rover 40
I think alot of these chinese reels are made by/for Pure Fishing Company, which owns a few major brands. I own Ming Yang, Yoshikawa, and a couple other ones and they seem fine, even a great value since they all cost me less than $40 each.
hey Jamie, we love PMR but, we haven't seen any more on the kastking Rover. please do more to it. we all have them and want to pimp them out. the Rover has gotten pretty famous in it's self. thanks from the kastking family and my wife plus one😁
I have the 80L. its huge. I also have the sharky 1, 2 and 3 spinning reels and they are superb. there my favourite brand but prices are going up on them
Just got 1 50 /500 are you going to Mag them or have you and can you put the video up please and would it be possible to make it into a beach casting reel
I will be making part 3; Pimping the KastKing 40R shortly. I think a PMR bespoke custom supermag for Abu 5500/6500 will fit but can't confirm until I install one
I got mine but when the spool tension clutch leaver is preased down and you turn the handle, depending on how soft or hard you turn the handle it doesnt fully release. It's hard to explain, but say turn handle soft and slow, it will feel like handle wont spin freely. Turn it fast and lightly then the handle spins normal. Do you have this issue?
How is the initial spool tension supposed to be changed to keep it from backlashing. I turned the kiln on the handle side, and later seen a video that I shouldn’t have messed with that one
Kastking is "ok" for the price. But you got to take it for what it is, a Chinese reel that's been rebranded (Kastking is a rebranding company they take sougayilang/tsurinoya products and resells them under US branding)
Hello, thanks for your amazing video. What's about size differance between a kastking rover 40 and a abu garcia ambassador 2500? Does a low price alternative exist at the Abu ambassador 2500 for bait finess? Thank for all.
I am editing the teardown video at the moment it will be up in a couple of days, but here's a spoiler for you, the pinion gear is mounted in a very large bearing. you would not believe how good this reel is but the proof will be uploaded shortly
OK that's great! if by chance could you put a ruler next to it so we can tell how big it is? All these reviews are great on TH-cam but we cant tell how large these reels are by someones hand size..Thanks
richard jarvis. KastKing as standard have a levelwind so casting distance is a little limited. KastKing does have one full casting option called the captain special. This reel has had the levelwind removed but still has the top bar on the cage.
Not much, the 60 has the same diameter side plates 2.53" (65mm) as the R40, but the width from the O,d to O.d of the side plates on the R60 is 3.2" (82mm) and the width on the R40 is 2.55" (63mm), the size of the R40 is the same as a old Abu 5000 and the Rover 60 is basically the same but with a little wider spool for more line.
Looks like a great reel. Looking forward to the tear down tomorrow. Thanks again for introducing me to another reel that I probably wouldn't have heard about anywhere else.

I've been a big fan of your channel for a while, and a huge fan of the Rovers since I got my hands on them. Looking forward to your review my man!

What were you impressed by?
Reeldoctor says it's cheaply made.
It should be jackass Jimmy!!
thanks Jamie. Bought one of these earlier this season

I wonder where you will get the 12mm mag from....
Great video..got this reel myself...everyone saying ah a catfish reel...you prove this wrong already..im hoping to catch a musky on jt
What band does your intro music? I love it!

who would have thought ,that reel would be that good, looking forward to the tear down
I just got one of these a few days ago and couldn't be happier

I will try to get it done soon. Thank you for the comment. Jamie
PMR
Do You know if you can get Boca barrings for the rover 60 ?
Thank you so much for the good review I was going to buy one but I wasn't sure so I you tubed it
Great vid. One correction the size 40’s drag is not 20 lbs. that’s only on their size 80 & 90. Either way great video. Thanks for the review.
Ok cool thanks Jamie. It's just I'm thinking of getting the 90 size as I'm going for 100lb catfish this year
I fish for Blues with my R60 and have no issues. If I had 100lb+ fish in my area, I believe the 70 would do well.
I bought the same reel, I only regret not buying the bigger rover 60.
I've fished the R60 for 9 mos. now and love it- casts as well as my abu's!
Jamie do you think its worth magging [rover 60, slightly bigger them abu 6500]? How much would it cost ?
Really like this two part expo on the Rover and was wondering if you could do the same exam of a Ming Yang MC600 reel?
Think you will find the Ming Yang MC600 is made in the same factory as the TronixPro Envoy
Hi Jamie, would you mind to tell what is the thread size of that crown screw? Thanks
Man!
SI many goodies.
I just ordered mine.
I hope it comes with all those things?
Hell....I bought a 50 and a 40....no bag or rag...but a great reel..
I have the 80L. its huge. I also have the sharky 1, 2 and 3 spinning reels and they are superb. there my favourite brand but prices are going up on them

Really enjoy your videos my friend . Hey can you get Boca barrings for the Kastking Rover 60 .
Hi Jamie, after watching this video I was so impressed that I have ordered one, was wondering what mono mag you would recommend for this reel?
I will be making part 3; Pimping the KastKing 40R shortly. I think a PMR bespoke custom supermag for Abu 5500/6500 will fit but can't confirm until I install one

I was thinking junk until you mentioned the maker. Now I have more respect for the reel.
If kastking rovers40 for casting lure under 10gr,,does it well..?
How is the initial spool tension supposed to be changed to keep it from backlashing. I turned the kiln on the handle side, and later seen a video that I shouldn’t have messed with that one
Use the spool tension cap on the other side
PimpMyReel Thanks.
Great report jamie
All I got with my reel was the bag that was it must been a marketing thing
I bout 2 of the 40 rovers both reels striped out on the left side knobs
Kastking is "ok" for the price. But you got to take it for what it is, a Chinese reel that's been rebranded (Kastking is a rebranding company they take sougayilang/tsurinoya products and resells them under US branding)
Made in Thailand, not China !!!
Where can i find the little break knob thingy i been looking for it everywhere i cant find it or spare parts for it.
Do you know if the parts for them are readily available? That's about the only thing I'm worried about before buying.
Parts are available through Eposeidon.
Can you get a open cage frame for the 60 or 70
did you break down yet?
Where can I buy that thing, and how much.
Can I use that reel for freshwater cat fishing?
yes
WarValor thankyou
Yes
Oh yeah!!👍😂👍✝️💜🎣🏹🛶🇺🇲
When will you be doing the tear down please
2 or 3 weeks. Once the boat fishing tests are completed.
What do you think about the Ming yang reels?
Not had one to look at yet but on my to do list. They look suspiciously like KastKing reels....
i bought 3 of those reels and none of that came with my purchase holy crap
Just ordered mine!
How was your reel
Joshua Green - it’s been delayed by the coronavirus as it’s coming from HK
Hello, thanks for your amazing video. What's about size differance between a kastking rover 40 and a abu garcia ambassador 2500?
Does a low price alternative exist at the Abu ambassador 2500 for bait finess? Thank for all.
I think the KastKing 40 is the smallest reel as a bait aster but they do make some very good Revo style reels.
@@PimpMyReel hello thanks for your reply and thanks for all your video.
sir How two bay tis reel.
Did you do a tear down video on this if so could you give us a link?
I am editing the teardown video at the moment it will be up in a couple of days, but here's a spoiler for you, the pinion gear is mounted in a very large bearing. you would not believe how good this reel is but the proof will be uploaded shortly

KastKing Rover R40 is the same size as an Abu 5500 or Akios 555. I will bare the ruler idea in mind for future reviews
Where did you get the screws on the left side if the reel
I make them
PimpMyReel thanks for your reply
Can you put up a video on how or let me know how much will you charge for three of them
@@mandozuken please contact me direct at; jamielifetour@googlemail.com
hello, what is the minimum bait weight that this reel can throw
I would think about 2oz
@@PimpMyReel thanks, how many grams of spool?
Can you use it for heavy lure worry for pike ??
I have cast 6 oz when up-tiding on the boat
I have cast 6 oz when using for up-tiding
It should handle a pike with out problems, I just lifted a 25 pound snook with out any issues. I use 30 pound mono, 90 meters more or less
hi there can anyone tell me if the Kastking rover40 is any good for beach casting please
richard jarvis.
KastKing as standard have a levelwind so casting distance is a little limited. KastKing does have one full casting option called the captain special. This reel has had the levelwind removed but still has the top bar on the cage.
ok thanks for the info i will look it to it
part 1 was ok what happen to part 2?
Will be uploaded in a couple of days
Wow that is a good reel
How much bigger is the rover 60?
Not much, the 60 has the same diameter side plates 2.53" (65mm) as the R40, but the width from the O,d to O.d of the side plates on the R60 is 3.2" (82mm) and the width on the R40 is 2.55" (63mm), the size of the R40 is the same as a old Abu 5000 and the Rover 60 is basically the same but with a little wider spool for more line.
Den Smith thank you for the help
Hi..can this reel use for jigging?
Does the 40r have a bait clicker?
Yes it does have a line out alarm also known as the bait alarm, rachet or clicker.
I'd luv the hat.
After 2 months, the foam gribs came off while fighting fish...
That seems more like a you problem than the reels
