    The naysayers out there can complain all they want about this little issue or that with El Estepario. But consider this. He is actually-quite literally a lot of the time-single handedly putting awareness of drummers and drumming into the minds of millions of people who otherwise wouldn't give drumming a second thought. I sure hope Varus is showing him some real love!

    El Estepario Siberiano, has actually & physically done the "Michael Phelps" olympic 28 medals of swimming" but in the "drumming music world" nobody that at least in the metal scene could now, not want to push their own personal limits above & beyond what they thought was their own limit, incuding all genres jazz, funk, he has trained for so long so hard for such results that he is like a session musician being comfortable with many different styles of drumming, including single hand drumming practicing he has raised the bar for all drummers & I believe he uses the speed of light for he's own personal metronome. he has not only done what seemed not possible but also with out being able to read music. but he has just hit the ball so far out of the ball park, that all the aliens & other species from other necks of the universe observing us earthlings, are now aware of this worlds hardest performing drummer, alien children in a galaxy far far away will have posters over their beds on the wall of the human drumming prodigy. that their parents once captured through observation of our ways.

    I’m nowhere near EES’s skill level, but I sometimes have to hold my sticks between my index and middle fingers due to nerve damage in my hands from botched bi-lateral carpal tunnel surgeries. The surgeries were in 2016, and my palms are still numb.
    This causes my fingers to go dead sometimes while playing, so holding between the index and middle fingers allows me to relax the tension in my palms and wrists. I’ve recently had ACDF surgery at C6/C7 twice in the past 18 months and I’m doing better, but it still happens.
    I’m not entirely sure why EES holds his sticks that way, but your not the only drummer to notice and question it. If I had to guess, it has to do with the way he spins the sticks. That’s just a guess though.

    Holding your stick between your fingers like that lets you do some things really fast. Such as using the ride. The fulcrum of the stick is moved back and you use less of your hand to pivot it back and forth, giving some fingers some much needed rest.
    You lose accuracy and certain techniques just don't work in that grip. I've seen old timers use that trick, it's weird but it has its place it seems.
    Try it on the ride, it's weirdly easy to do. Palms facing down.

    Great vid. In response to your comment about his grip..he switches back and forth between "traditional" and the modified grip..he has a few videos addressing it. In the comment section of the last video we debated names for it. I think the claw grip or the F.U. grip were the winners. Honerable mention was the "hows your mother grip". Anyway here is the link to his most recent short addressing that grip technique.
    I pasted the link below.

    … I’m old school ✌🏻😂

    • @importslunglowful
      @importslunglowful ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I'm pretty sure its's not that he's "Young for Talent" it's that he's young for outdoing and surpassing those veterans that have been doing it for 20 or 30 years. and in His words. " I don't believe in talent it's perseverence and practice to get you to the top".

    • @flowerlandofjohn
      @flowerlandofjohn ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@importslunglowful Well, he might be outdoing some in very specific fields (like specific speed techniques and stick tricks). But as an “overall drummer” he has a long way to go in comparison with the “old classic greats”. In my view he’s not really doing anything new. Sure he has specialized his abilities in a couple of fields and really throw them in your face for great effect (and he’s obviously brilliant at social media). But the techniques in themselves are not that groundbreaking.
      Might I ask if you play yourself? I’m asking (out of prejudice) because a very common feature among the gazillion channels that do reactions on him right now for traffic are either not drummers themselves or beginners without any greater knowledge of “drum-history”.
      That’s why I made a comment about you referring to his age. Many “reactions-channels” do, and they make him sound like a prodigy. Like: he’s awesome and “only” 27. In my book that’s past the status of a “wiz kid”. For comparison. Vinnie Colaiuta joined Zappa at 22. Terry Bozzio joined at 25. And then we’re not talking about edited and retaken short clips on TH-cam. We’re talking hours a night playing the most complex and challenging music known to man LIVE!
      And that’s where he needs to go to get me on his bandwagon. Original material and performing it live (and gladly that’s what he said that he will do in the near future in his latest upload).
      And finally: don’t get me wrong. He seems like a really cool dude, and he has some mad abilities, and I wish him all the luck. It’s his following that get me riled up. He might be great at a couple of things: but no, he isn’t the greatest drummer that has ever lived. It takes more for that title.
      End rant ✌🏻😂

      @@importslunglowful And some examples to back my claims ✌🏻🤩
      Jorge is (now) famous for his fast foot and hand singles. But i remember when Jojo did this casually between segments on a 25 years old classic clinic. This is live and he’s just throwing it out there. But believe me, if he focused on only that he could easily do a “clinical speed short” on TH-cam showcasing this wondrous technique. However, all I mean is that it’s nothin new👍🏻

      Or this one by Gergo. A non drummer would probably say/think it’s easier since he’s using both his hands. But it actually way harder. Doing alternating singles like this is only done by a select few. It’s like a major pinnacle in drum development. Does it look as impressive: no. But it’s at least twice as hard 😳😅

    Most people do not understand that every achievement, talent and any success in life all comes down to chance, luck and genetics. Then you have idiots saying that no it’s hard work. No that all comes down to your great great great great grand parents genetics, chance and luck. Einstein was not a genius mathematician because he studied hard, he was born with a gift. Some of the smartest mathematicians will never reach his level no matter how much they study. Most drummers could practice twice as much as this guy and they still would never reach his level

      I'm not saying you're talking down about him, because at the end it sounds like you are complementing his skill, or should I say complementing his genetics? The first part of your comment is nonsensical. "every achievement, talent and any success in life ALL comes down to chance, luck, and genetics. Then you have idiots saying that no it's hard work." This is dumbest thing I've read on any of his videos. If this were true then he could have just played video games for the last 27 years, sat down at a drum set for the first time today and made this exact video. Do you realize how stupid that sounds? No, he was likely born with a high pre-disposition for incredible dexterity, reflexes, and hand-eye coordination. Then he busted his fucking ass for 15-20 years to hone this skill to what he can do today. I'm sure Michael Jordan could have just played Nintendo until he he was 25 and then dominated the NBA in his first couple years. Sure, Shohei Ohtani should have just wrote poetry all all his life and joined the MLB this year and hit 44 home runs. I cannot understate how asinine this statement is. Think before you type.

    Isn't it good to see a live musician as opposed to a laptop or other let's pretend? A human being any day. Please, please, please make a video of a laptop getting blown to bits!
    It's no wonder music takes a social back seat nowadays. People get excited by a real drummer, don't they? They are do rare!

    I'm desperately looking for Dave Grohl's reaction to this.
    Although, if I know him like I think I do it will only have one word in it: "f**k!"

    .....for a good laugh. Switch on the drum machine. Set it to ' Leaning Mode '. Wait, until it self-destructs. Now, go practice.......
