- We show an easy to make support for telescoping mast antennas for radio amateurs. This can be quickly set up by one person and does not require guy lines. The support structure can be used as the counterpoise for an end fed antenna (EFHW). This allows fast and easy set up of antennas for emergencies, for field day, and parks on the air (POTA).

Another idea filed away for later reuse!
Absolutely genius! It's a bit bulky but not intended to be backpacked to a SOTA, but fine for POTA. The only thing I might change is the spike; not crazy about that sticking out. Maybe do a bayonet type of spike that can be set in place as needed. Lot's of thoughts here. Great solution and you can tell you're either a seasoned tinkerer or an engineer.
Agree. Although some park rangers do not appreciate us aerating the park grounds. A friend of mine is an avid activator and was told to immediately remove his antenna because of his ground spikes. Luckily, he had already gotten more than 10 contacts.
I slide a piece of rubber hose over the spike when not in use. Thanks for your comment. 73
