UNSC & permanent seat for India
    Introduction:
India has one-sixth of the global population and is one of the founding members.
India has always respected the institution and participated in it.
Delivering a joint G4 statement on behalf of Brazil, Germany, India, and Japan, India's Permanent Representative in 2016 stated that the grouping was eager for a forward discussion on UNSC permanent membership and reforms.
In reality, there is a decline of the west.
    Need for the move:
    A leader in Peacekeeping operations
    Upholder of principles and credentials.
India's clout in the UN has increased, eg: election of an Indian in ICJ.
International yoga day with 177 countries.
    Impediments:
India is opposed by China and Pakistan
Germany is opposed by UK, France, Spain, and Italy.
    Brazil opposed by Argentina, Mexico.
African countries haven't come up with a candidate.
India has been following its own policy. As in the case of bombings in Libya, where India had opposed initially and then abstained in the vote.
All the P5 countries have their own angularities.
China’s urge to India to leave G-4
UK, US, and France will not cede that the west is on a decline.
Japan's inclusion is facing problems as its economic clout is declining and China is opposing strongly.
    China's role:
China in its own perception has equated India with Pakistan. Pakistan is its tool.
China on the behest of Pakistan called for informal consultations.
    Wuhan warmth was considered temporary.
Wuhan summit did not discuss-Dalai Lama, border disputes, Pakistan issues.
China is more or less isolated in UNSC. As in the case of Hafiz Saeed.
    India & Pakistan:
GDP of Pakistan less than that of Mumbai
Even China is finding it difficult to bail out Pakistan.
    Way Forward:
    France is supporting openly.
America plays a different game altogether.
    Managing the transition
    Xi’s upcoming visit in October.
UNGA session is going to take place in September and hopefully, India would be part of P-6 whether it would be part of P-5 or not.
If the Indian economy can grow at 10% for 10 years then the members will ask India to be a member.
India should not over-invest in it.

Just one correction- GDP of Mumbai is not greater than Pakistan but GDP of Maharashtra is greater than Pakistan. GDP of Mumbai is $386 billion in PPP terms and people often compares it with Nominal GDP of a state or a country like Pakistan. For example, Pakistan's GDP in PPP is over $1 Trillion. So, Its like Mumbai's $368 billion vs Pakistan's $1.19 trillion. So, Maharashtra as a whole state beats Pakistan by a huge margin with NOMINAL GDP of $420 billion (Mumbai is around $160 billion) vs Pakistan's NOMINAL GDP is around $278 billion.

    • @tusharrrrrr
      @tusharrrrrr 4 ปีที่แล้ว

@@abhishekanshuwali3808 That's how google is designed. It extracts information through a particular source. So the 1st place it looks for when the keywords like GDP is used is the world bank and it shows us whatever world bank feeds it easily. Also, World bank have data available in PPP as well as Nominal but it don't mention the word "nominal". So, If you search for nominal per capita income, it won't be able to fetch info from worldbank and will look somewhere else. Sometimes such results are outdated too. So, Always go inside the site and check for the information.

First of all, India is not a founding member of the United Nations. The United Nations was founded in 1945 and India was founded in 1947.
Economic level, if you look at the economic development, Japan and Germany should have got the permanent seat on the Security Council long ago, but China would never have got the permanent seat.
Political level, judging from the fact that many Indians feel that France or USA will support India, I don't think Indians are political enough to be a permanent member. Since the P5 will not support any country to share their own interests, the five countries have a common interest in the power of the permanent members. This is the basic political logic.
So the only way to become a permanent member is war, complete defeat of any one of the P5 by a total war, because the P5 status was obtained by war, but I don't think India will have such military strength in the next few decades.

Could be better for India to undercut the UN until it's granted a seat. The main requirement for that would be for India to boost its economic power. Also, India could quietly use its influence to encourage others to flout the UN, so that we can indirectly put pressure on the UN without us being directly seen as a violator of it.

I agree with the Chief Editor of the Himdustan times when he said that if India focuses on improving itself, the US and the other countries will automatically have to choose India. It is also very much true that sharing the power held will also not be very easy to give. It can only be with complete confidence or with great reluctance internally while knowing that India will deserve a seat. It is time for India to change its focus into growing economically and hold a strong stand point in the Global scheme of Geo and Economic Politics to grow further.

See.. The real thing that matters is power..economic, diplomatic, military, cultural.. If india works hard and gets all these...then you won't have to go to UN to ask for a seat.. The UN will invite you..because the UN p5 members will not want a big power outside of the system.. It could create misjudgement and india not being a part of UN as permanent member will allow india to disregard the consensus achieved by the p5.. India could act anyway it wants and use its eco, diplo and military power to constantly snub the p5 members.. So.. First get the power and then think about permanent seat.

It is high time that India gets a seat at the Permanent Members table.
1 out of 6 people are Indians in the world living in more than a 100 countries worldwide.
Some economies like the Gulf states in the Middle East would suffer heavily or would be on brink of collapse if Indians were suddenly removed.
The world economy has improved with the efforts of Indians and Indian-origin citizens in different parts of the world.
We share a diplomatic relation with over 90% of the countries in the world with a population over 250,000 people.
India can stifle China and make them agree to vote for India's inclusion if they twist their arm by disturbing their CPEC investment in Pakistan.

I think India has to continue growing, and if the UN does not recognise India, then India should not recognise the validity of UN resolutions or institutions and should state this clearly but state that they will work inside the UN to promote world peace. India shoiuld only vote in the UN on aspects that are to the benefit of India. India should bypass the UN whenever possible and resolve issues bilaterally. Economic strength is key to power projection.

Whether a UN member deserves a permanent seat or not on the UNSC has nothing to do with the issue; it is the UN charter that has decided who is or is not a permanent member. It happens that China will not have India on the high table, and that is all that matters.

Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu on Monday said that India, which represents one sixth of the global population, has a rightful claim to the permanent membership of the United Nation’s Security Council. One of the key historic reasons for India’s quest for a permanent seat at the UNSC was to ensure protection of national interest in crucial diplomatic moments when the organ takes up issues such as Kashmir. Delivering a joint G4 statement on behalf of Brazil, Germany, India and Japan, India’s Permanent Representative Syed Akbaruddin in 2016 stated that the grouping was eager for a forward discussion on UNSC permanent membership and reforms. Diplomats have blamed China for having quietly carried out a campaign to stop India’s efforts at the UNSC. Veteran diplomats have said that the latest UNSC meeting on Kashmir which was convened following an initiative from China showed that India will have to show more stamina to stop China from using the organ against India’s interest. The issue of expanding the UNSC and the Text Based Negotiation is expected to come up in the next UN General Assembly session in September. On this edition of the big picture we will analyse UNSC reforms and a permanent seat for India

@john doe China was a dictator Communist regime in the 60s whereas India was a democratic nation. No country had approved the legitimacy of Communist government in China. In fact, your Great grandfather Nehru was the first to recognise the communist regime as a legitimate one. China was going through internal turmoil at that time and the annexation of Tibet made the matter worse. In such a situation, it was unimaginable to offer a permanent UNSC seat to China. On contrary, India deserved it all. India was offered UNSC seat but due to his incapabilties, that Moron threw away that opportunity and even suggested China as the most suitable contender owing to its largest population.
But you converted Missionary can never understand the truth. You people sold your religion for a handful of benefits....what's big deal in selling your country also.
You will always support Nehru, no matter what. For you nation comes last, your petty Missionaries and tyrant activities come first.
