  • Third in a series of 'dashcam' videos I took with my new camcorder on September 25, 1987 while driving my '76 Chev pick-up with 'three on the tree' transmission and standard steering. This one spans approximately 5:35pm to 5:50pm and begins where my first video in the series left off, turning from Yonge Street east onto Adelaide Street, over the Don River where I go along Eastern Avenue to Queen and finally turning onto Kippendavie just east of Woodbine Avenue. At the end of this video was the last time I got the old streetcars in regular use.

A classic pickup truck, fuzzy dice and a CFTR-680 newscast (in the days that station still played music). This was a Toronto worth living in.

Thanks so much for posting this. It felt like I went back in time. I was living on McGill Street and going to Ryerson. I was 19. I swear to God I thought I saw my car making a left at 2:28, gold Plymouth Horizon.

Ah, I wish I lived in the 80s, it looked so great! Especially in Toronto! And that was Kenny G that played! And it was relatively new back then!

I wish for old Toronto of the 80's more than being young again. I truly hate Toronto today and what they've gotten rid of. Every city around the world has turned into nothing but Condos.

Thanks for posting all of the videos. Really brings me back. Since you lived on Queen East, did you have a parking pass from the city for Kippindavie only? Is that how it worked back then?

Thanks for the comment. As I remember, I had a permit for the area around my place as I use to park on Elmer too but if I was on Queen for more than 2 hours, I could be ticketed. In any case, I managed to get lots of parking violations no matter what.

Ain't that the truth. They're vultures. Are you still in the downtown area? That sure looked like a lovely area to live in.

I moved away from Toronto years ago and still miss it. I go back from time to time to see the neighbourhood and how much things have changed.

Wild video if you’re familiar with the area. Great time capsule! TO sports teams were choking back then too (start of epic Jays ‘87 collapse)😂😂

Hi Brian, I'm looking for vintage footage of Toronto for a comedic web series I'm making set in the 80s. This is great! Our budget is really tight. Is there any chance we could use some of this in exchange for credit of some kind? I can tell you more about it but it will be a fun show for Toronto retro lovers.

Hi Leah, Thanks for your interest in my footage. Yes you can use some my videos if you let me know what part of what video you'll be using. And please credit the footage to Courtesy: TH-cam - Brian Hardy if you wouldn't mind, thanks. Oh yeah, I'd like to check out your series so if you could let me know where I can find it. Best of luck!

In 1989, a second floor 1 bedroom apartment, above a nice store on Avenue road, just north of Lawrence, was $410 a month.
