Whenever I hear someone from the States say "I live in the middle of nowhere" I laugh. You don't know "middle of nowhere" until you've lived in Northern Canada.
well then try Alaska, Americas islands, the mid west, its deserts ........
Then I would say Try Nunavut, If there ever was a middle of no where in North America that is it. And Nunavut is huge, much larger than Alaska. O ps 1/10th the population of Alaska as well. Also Northern Quebec the Angava Peninsula. or Northern Western Provinces, they are all bigger than Texas. and so on.

My Canadian children and husband have no appreciation for Canada. We take trips back to England to visit my family and they get soooo excited. I'm glad to see family, but not particularly excited to visit home and not interested in tourist bits. When we go camping, I get soooo excited! And my kids and husband are mildly interested. I pick these beautiful spots in the Northern Ontario and Quebec with less campers and it's just soooo quiet and have long beautiful drives. Grrr! Canadians! You fail to appreciate what you have! Fail!

That was a glorious time.
It was because of the Alberta oil boom. Unfortunately it will never happen again since our government is anti-oilsands/ anti-self reliance. With the USAs new found oil independence they don't need our oil anymore so they only refine it and then ship it back to us for triple the price. Instead of being smart and prospering from the resource we have here at home we're going to leave it in the ground and support terrorism and misogyny by buying it from Saudi Arabia instead. Why? Because its 2020.
As a Canadian who has lived in Japan for a long time, this is a reminder of just how lucky Canadians are. Sure, Japan is a fine and beautiful country with nice people and great food, but Canada is Canada. Canada is in many ways an inspiration to the rest of the world. Canada, to me, is an ideal. This video made me very home sick.

hate the remoteness? i guess some people may hate it, but most true Canadians love it, the nature, animals, lakes. it is truly wonderful, i do understand the distance of some places is a negative, like living up north, when my grandma goes to her cottage she is a 2 hour drive from the nearest wal-mart, it is honestly amazing, i hate living in the city
Mario Bartolo I think what I wanted to say was that if you are driving and you are not used to the vast distances it could scare you (this was something a few tourists we bumped into in Kingston were mentioning to us)
woltersworld ahh makes sense, i could see how driving up north and getting lost in a remote area without cell phone reception is a negative, especially if you have no idea where you are or where to go, anyways if that ever happens don't be afraid to ask for directions, most people up here are friendly :)

Mario Bartolo Agreed, its beautiful and the wheather to americans is "Freezing" as to me, all winter I can wear a sweater then again im Canadian, and if you can stand our "Freezing" wheather then you can basically go anywhere thinking that its not even near cold

I told my husband that I'm excited but scared at the same time.. I'm going to live in a country that is very different from where I came from.. Culture, Cold weather (I grew up in a tropical country), language, food, people, place, etc. Plus I don't have any friends or relatives there. It's a whole new world for me.. but I'm looking forward to meet amazing Canadians and begin my new life in Canada with my husband. :-)

I visited Canada (from Ireland) a few years ago and stayed in Ottawa with a couple of relatives. I remember the Canadian people being so friendly everywhere I went and I truly loved the experience. I would definitely go back (and if I ever get the courage try and live in Ontario for a couple of years). Beautiful country and wonderful people with a positive attitude to life.

Before Thunder Bay was amalgamated a city, I think it was Port Arthur that had quite a few streets with Finnish shops. It's been a while, since the bypass went in. It would take a Finn to live on the northern tip of Lake Superior!

Yes, and sadly, half of the money allowed for your whole trip will go to the Bell Center. It is outragely expensive to go see the Habs. I used to buy 10 pairs of tickets at the old Forum each year. A shared season ticket. Not anymore. The only game I saw at the Bell Center was a $600 evening (I had been invited on coporate tickets)
I'm Canadian and the winters here are nothing to Canadians....i mean -1 or -2 you'll see some people in shorts and a t shirt or no shirt at all.
I've never seen that. At least where I live, people dress sensibly.

People say if you see a robin (American thrush) it's the first sign of spring. Here, it's the postmen.

whats funny is all these videos are based out out of Eastern Canada . Ive travelled from one end to the other by car 3 times Canada is more than Montreal or Toronto. Newfoundland probably the nicest people on the planet and a cool place to visit. and Im from Alberta thats my home .

Manufacturing of products for export brought the Canadian Government about 80 billion dollars in transfer payments now with that said most manufacturing is in Eastern Canada from light bulbs to Auto parts. The eastern part of Canada has always treated the West with disregard and disdain and think that we dont do anything significant for the Country. Alberta alone transfered 130 billion a year which is equal to what the Federal Government transfers to Quebec . Alberta Oil and Gas has been the largest employer in Canada with most of those employed in the Oil and Gas coming from Eastern Canada because we had work for them. Saskatchewan is also in the Oil and Gas business but i believe thats equal to their farming. Manitoba ( we really dont know what they do lol ) i believe they are mining and Farming. British Columbia are the Tree huggers of Canada beautiful province we have to give them that most of their wealth came from Logging which has been dealt a bad hand over the years but made up for it with the best pot in the world lol so they say. i dont partake in that BS.

Canada is not a Nationalistic Country our new Govt is trying to find some type of identity for us we already have one we may not be Nationalistic but we are certainly some of the most Patriotic Citizens on the planet.and we dont brag about it we just are. While jaywalkers are being rude (and breaking the law), I like that humans have the right of way. That's a highly civilized culture you've encountered.
As a Canadian I think it would work better the other way around. Reason being it is way easier to stop and look or get out of the way when you are a pedestrian than when your in a 2 ton vehicle going 50kph. Cars don’t stop very well and expecting them to stop for someone who walks into the road without looking doesn’t make sense. Obviously I think you should have to try and stop but saying the vehicle is legally at fault every time is simply not true, lots of times it’s the pedestrian that didn’t do there job to make sure it was safe.

***** If you live in Southwestern Ontario down near the Windsor area winter isn't that bad. I live in Windsor, ON. and we have barely had any snow yet this winter and it's been fairly mild. This week is suppose to be pretty cold though. Our summers are really warm and humid though which is awesome.

I loved your take on Canada. I grew up in Europe (but was born in Montreal), and it took me a while to adjust to the long distances between major cities when we returned to Canada in 1968. I have always had an outsider's appreciation of Canada despite having been born here. I don't think Canadians realize that what we have is quite unique. I, too, love the multicultural aspect of this country. I travel downtown in Toronto where there are distinct neighbourhoods for many, many cultures. It's like travelling the world in 1 day. I'm glad you enjoyed your time here. We just love American visitors like you.
Great video! Thanks for making it and exposing the good aspects of Canada. If you can dedicate the time to traveling across the country and seeing the hot spots for nature, it's unbelievably beautiful and vast. The cold isn't for everyone, but if you can hack it, winter has serene beauty that instills a calmness in ones soul.

I must admit when I saw your title I had to roll my eyes. I suspected you, like many others who travel blog about Canada, to be way off the mark on the likes and dislikes. Ice, yes, but (guffaw!) DO tell your wife that if you are going to tour here in July, her bikini just might also be on order. temperatures have huge variations, both seasonal and day to night. I have known as high as 37C - scorching! but I have also known -45 C with a 60 MPH wind on top.

Re crosswalks.... yes in Ontario, people cross the street in front of moving cars as if the crosswalk will protect them from an oncoming bus.

If anyone was to travel to Canada from over seas especially, Saskatchewan isn’t a place I would recommend visiting lol. Jasper and Banff I would recommend. Or the big cities Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal. Or even Nova Scotia or Newfoundland. Saskatchewan wouldn’t make the list.

If you ever come back in the summer season the Stratford Festival has 4 theatres that put on chamber plays, musicals and Shakespearean plays. check out the Stratford Shakespeare Festival. Stratford may be a small city however it is known world wide for theater. it is also only a couple of hours away from Toronto.

Toronto is one of my favorite places to visit. Canadian people being nice is an understatement, almost every place we went you made a new friend or found someone to go to the bar with. Also love the multiculturalism, there was different parades almost every day. 4 good thing is so true! I love baseball and when I went just happen to be when Toronto was hosting the world baseball classic. I recommend everyone go to Toronto at least once, and find someone local and go to a restaurant of their recommendation!
We were in Toronto while they were out of town so couldn't get to a game, but the people love their bluejays for sure. Thanks for writing!

No joke, I visited Toronto in July with a friend who is also from the states and we were walking to the Royal Ontario Museum from the CN Tower and we saw two guys walking the other direction with hockey sticks. None the less, I would highly recommend visiting Canada I want to go visit there again! Wonderful people!

I'm glad you mentioned poutine. If you are visiting Montreal and want the standard poutine, you can't go wrong anywhere with the possible exception of the fast food chains (the fries in poutine are normally a little thicker than what you get at McDonalds). If you want one of special poutines and don't care how much it shortens your life, I recommend the sloppy joe poutine from Poutine Centrale in Little Italy. It's exactly what it sounds like, Tex-Mex beef and cheddar on top of the fries and cheese curds of the traditional poutine and it is incredible.

In my city we have this place called the Whistle Stop, 100+ types of poutine, including things like pulled pork poutine and peameal poutine. Its basically poitine with toppings and it is amazing

I don't want to take anything away from the places you mentioned but you didn't talk much at all about Western Canada.
The Rocky Mountains, the Atlantic Ocean, the straights in around Victoria, Edmonton, Calgary Regina, with their individual beauty and wonderful festivals. Etc etc... so much else in a very diverse country. Winnipeg fishing areas. I could go on, but these areas were conspicuously overlooked.
I love the Calgary Stampede. It's just so filling!

I live in Vancouver and here are my loves and hates:
Loves:
1. the natural beauty of the nation, especially BC.
2. the amount of outdoor activities and short trips you can do around your city.
3. more space per person, unlike Europe or Asia.
4. the high school education, people who tried succeeded.
5. work culture, you don't need to worry about work after you go home.
Hates:
1. political correctness.
2. expensive post secondary education.
3. major city traffic.
4. tipping and taxed everything.
5 taxation to pay for unwanted or unnecessary projects
If you think post secondary education in Vancouver is expensive you must be dirt poor
I still pay taxes for the Toronto Roads Fund, which hasn't worked out for the last 2 tax seasons.
Spend 9 years studying alone in this country. Love it! People here are super friendly and nice, even though driving in Montreal is such a pain. Love the winter and the cold here (I'm dead serious!) It's Canada! You need to enjoy the cold and the winter sports! Nature is wonderful here as well! You really need to get out there and enjoy the nature! It's what makes it Canada!

Idk? It's mostly prairies. However if you mean the sheer beauty and lack of human influence then yes! Truly a special province but then again most places in Canada are just as beautiful in there own prospect. (Outside of big cities)

I have almost got to Serbia twice. I had tickets to go back in 2007 or 2008 but the day I was getting my train from Italy the us embassy was stormed :) the 2nd time was in 2012, but we changed plans last minute to go to a friends wedding in Italy. But the third time will be the charm :)

I have been debating on how to make a better screen shot for the videos. sometimes I feel like making the beautiful scenery pictures like you made or like a picture of the coliseum in Rome for Rome videos, but then I wonder if my subscibers might not think it is one of my videos, but just another "Rome" video. So I sometimes try to make sure one of the family is in the picture so the subscribers know its us. But dang, your's make it look so good!!!! Great job. And we are planning on coming to Serbia. I think we will do kind of a whirlwind tour with Serbia, Montenegro, Bosnia, Croatia and Slovenia. Kind of a former Yugoslavia swing. I think it would be amazing. I have met quite a few serbs on my travels and they have always been FUN to say the least :) honest as well.
woltersworld I hear what you're saying, good point! Well as a UI/UX designer I might be a bit more perfectionist than most of your other subscribers, but I tried to make it look better, The background image it's just an example so you could always replace this, I was also focusing on the other elements, like your logo is semi transparent, I think that's pretty cool, than you have the main headline, and subheadline below (different font, not shadow, but there is a semi transparent box in behind so the text stands out more). These could also be "hate #1 : it's expensive" and then some more description below etc.. Just like you did in your other videos but it looks a bit better. Don't get me wrong but I really did not liked much that dropshadows on the text, they are just too large in my opinion :-) So yea if you need any help like that, don't hesitate to get in touch (kristijanbinski@gmail.com), I will be happy to help you out free of charge!
Haha yeah, that would be a crazy tour, to visit all those places in former Yugoslavia, you only missed Macedonia.. Btw, the prices here in Serbia are more than affordable, I already can see that this would be your number 1 love, or maybe the food, I'm not quite sure actually but one of those two would be number 1 for sure! :-)

This makes me so excited to visit Canada. The #3 thing that you listed as a hate is the very thing I love about Europe and cities like San Francisco, CA; Boulder, CO and Portland, OR - the empowered pedestrian. I love a city that is designed for walkers and bikers over automobiles!

We were driving through a rural part of Canada, and saw a little Punjabi man on a tractor, with his turban. I would never expect to see that in England, but you really do see ethnic diversity even in rural areas of Canada.

That was 2014, however. Right now our peso -er- dollar is a piddly 77¢ or so against the US buck. For every 20 Ameribux you exchange, you'll get 25 Canabux, which really helps out as prices (except for gas) will look really quite similar.

Damn!! I agree on every single thing you said! I love Canada so much, it's the best place to live and/or visit. People over there are just amazing, the only thing though is that in the Québec area (particularly in small cities) if you don't speak French you might see the not-so-friendly side of them, but that's really rare.

Haha, it's fun to hear Americans talk about Canada, hopefully I visit the US someday to see the differences myself. I've been nearly everywhere you talked about here, and think you've got it down pat. Our minimum wage is going up, which is good bc not all service industry jobs can get tips (like cashiers, stockers, etc).

Canada has done a poor job marketing it's self in the world. I am an ex pat Canadian living in Brazil.
I don't mind at all when people think I'm american, but when I tell them I'm Canadian, many say: Oh, it's the same.
Your american. That pisses me off! and I am NOT anti-american in any way! I then call them Americans, which they take offense .. so I make my point, and still some will still refer to me as American, no matter what!
I think only an Austrian, or New Zealander could understand a Canadians perspective on this issue.

Couldn't tell by me. I spend several weeks of the summer in the rockies (mostly Jasper - Banff has become a tad too crowded and "touristy" for me) and - no joke - most of the people I meet on the hiking trails are either German or British. It never fails to amaze me how many Germans and Brits come to our mountains. Hells, even the park rangers are often surprised to hear that I'm an Albertan.
Depends what cold means to you? If you live in Florida, it's one thing. If you live in Maine, it's another. Let's not even mention Alaska.
***** I don't know why Canada has such a stereotype of being sooo cold, it's only really cold for 3 months surrounded by mild, and REALLY hot summers. There are many other countries that are way colder.
