  • The most important part of taking care of your Bonsai trees is watering. How often a tree needs to be watered depends on several factors such as; species of the tree, size of the tree, size of the pot, time of year, soil-mixture, and climate.
    Fore more info also see: www.bonsaiempi...
    As mentioned previously, how often a Bonsai needs to be watered depends on many factors, and providing an exact guide is not possible. Instead, you need to observe your trees individually.
    If you want to learn more about Bonsai, consider enrolling in one of our Online Bonsai Courses. For the curriculums and free lectures, go to:

    This video was filmed in the Japanese garden of Clingendael.

    I have my bonsai gardenia indoors. I use distilled water and I water everyday. When the water runs into the drip tray I pour it back into my watering can and I water the tree again. I leave a little water in the drip tray at all times. I then mist the leaves with a spray bottle filled with distilled water. I have been doing this everyday for 3 months and my bonsai is very happy. Thank you for all your helpful…it is very much appreciated 😊

      I don't water almost because it never dries out even some leaves fell down...Even under grow lights of 16 hours it's a very long process to dry out..If I dig a bit with a finger I feel my soil is moist and I pruned my olive bonsai once...Seems better but still remains wet

    I am a beginner recently got a Chinese sweet plum bonsai tree. I am keeping this tree in doors, it is currently near a south facing window. It does not get harsh direct sun light but it does get light. I am worried i am doing something wrong. The tree came with many leaves and branches. I let it get used to my home for a week or two and then i began trimming it and shaping it how I wanted. Since doing so I have noticed leaves are drying, some are getting brown spots, and falling off. I purchased a humidity reader as I thought maybe I was not watering it enough. It seems that may have been the case. I am now watering it around every 2 or so days. So far the over all look of the tree has not improved I am worried it is to late :(.

    • @bonsaiempire
      @bonsaiempire  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Its a tray filled with pebbles - so you can have some water in it without the bonsai pot (and its roots) being soaked. It helps to increase local humidity a bit (and it makes watering the bonsai a bit less messy too).

    • @bonsaiempire
      @bonsaiempire  ปีที่แล้ว

      Your answers are here: www.bonsaiempire.com/basics/bonsai-care/watering
      In short; if water can drain out well from your pot (which is important!) you just water a lot and the excess water will drain out. Tap water is fine, or rain water is even better.

    I was gifted a juniper bonsai and it was doing well until I set it outside for too long. Also I started watering in the kitchen sink. However the bonsai began growing mold on the pot and around the tree. I assumed it was due to an unclean sink while watering.

    • @bonsaiempire
      @bonsaiempire  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Junipers need to be kept outdoors, always, year-round. If you keep them indoors they will die, and if you keep them indoors and suddenly put them outside in winter they will die even quicker :) Perhaps read up about Juniper care here: www.bonsaiempire.com/tree-species/juniper

    • @bonsaiempire
      @bonsaiempire  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it does, but it also depends on the soil you use. Seedlings can be kept in organic soil, and then need less watering than inorganic soils would - moist is good though! Not wet, not dry :)

    Great video! But a question about my Bonsai: I now waterd it until the water came out of the holes on the bottom. Yet the soil still feels dry right after I waterd it. Like it sucks it up immediately or something. Also I can't really press my finger in it to feel if its wet cause it's pretty hard. The soil In it are some kind of black clay grains. How do I know if I waterd it correctly and when to water it again? I heard the clay grains could change color if they get dry. Miine are now pure black and feel really dry.
    So do I need to water it more or is it good enough to water till the water comes out underneath? I hope the question is clear, I just don't want to under water it and I don't know how to see if u gave it enough and when it'll need more.

    • @bonsaiempire
      @bonsaiempire  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can consider watering a second time a few minutes later, making sure the substrate can soak up the water. Inorganic soils however do not store much water - which is a good thing to prevent overwatering.

      @@bonsaiempire another question. I was watering the bonsai and saw some little spiders on it and think I saw some litlle snails and really tiny worms. Also my bottom part is really pretty dead wood. But it got soft parts in it like it looks like ground so I was wondering if that could be rotting??? Im kinda in panic haha.... Also another note I was taking out those what seemed to be rotting pieces and found that there are some soft parts in the wood that if pushed get some water out. Is this a sign of to much water? Please help I can't find annything on the matter!
