I really enjoy watching the progression and how to visualize what your ultimate goal is. I too with these grew on the east coast. I have a little white oak I’ve transferred to a growing bed, will see how it works out. Thanks very much!
Amazing work as always! I’m excited for spring time to see how many of my trees I dug up and potted will have actually survived. Thank you for the videos!
Your examples will help me in the spring when I go back to a small tree on my property that I “brutally” clipped last August. It began to bud and regrow last fall so I am looking forward to seeing what the new growth will look like this spring. As always, thank you. I will send you before and after photos in late spring.
Love your instruction. Could you post a TH-cam on the root work done on the 2nd tree here? I just started digging up trees. Still learning which roots to keep and which to remove. Please continue. Love your content.
To report it, I actually cut off most of the roots below certain point in preparation for a shallow bonsai pot. Very forgiving, save as much fibrous roos as you and and cut off thick roots to fit the pot...to induce the development of fibrous roots.
i wish these live oaks were cold hardy. im using our native oak i find growing around my on the east coast. nice trees but slow growing and they have large leafs. red and white oak i think maybe royal too. im no pro just a diy bonsai hobbist. love your videos milton. thank you sir!
The leaf size of most trees will reduce at least somewhat with ramification. Make them into bigger bonsai for scale consideration and tell us how it works out to share with your experience with he BH community. Thanking you in advance!
Very nice! 😎🤙💯 I did this wuth a bunch of bur oaks and maples on my property in Ontario Canada. The leafs will be large but the think base I think will make up for it!! P.S. there is one very special bur oak in the feild i have thats the second largest oak ive seen in person!! 17 1/2 foot around!! I have climbed it and trimed some of the large dead branches before. This beautiful mature bur oak is definitely what gave me the beginning of love for Bonsai!
Try to recreate the look of this heritage Bur Oak tree in a bonsai using a Chinese or Japanese elm...That would be a satisfying experience. That is the idea I am trying to advocate...to emulate your ideal tree in miniature. Have fun!
@MiltonChang thanks brother I sure will! I do have one bur oak about 7 feet tall I am going to try and replicate it fully. I am 28 now I think I have a good start on this where I will be able to see the true beauty in my life. Thank you for all the inspiration and knowledge you have brought me that I am passing on to my friends brothers and Newfie. Please keep doi g what your doing I love your videos!! 🫡👍🙌💯
I like seeing the live oak used as bonsai. Seems like they have not been used a lot historically. I have quite a few Canyon Live Oak seedlings that I have been training.
Nice! according to Wikipedia "It is often found near creeks and drainage swales growing in moist cool microhabitats." Have fun! Provide us feedback on what you have learned.
Dig it in the spring ...but dig around it a section at a time during the year...and water a lot to induce fibrous roots. Have fun! It is very satisfying.
I have a red oak about 15 years old and straight as an arrow. Have you tried grafting an oak? What about the tap root? Once the tap root is cut they seem to die.
As someone very familiar with these kinds of oaks, I'm surprised the gentleman isn't wearing gloves for protection from their spiky little leaves as he works!
You anchor wire by wiring 2 branches with 1 wire, that is how branches are wired... and are you ever going to put a deciduous tree in a glazed pot? These are just basic practices. If you ever show a tree I would love to see the critique. These are things your audience should learn about, and I implore you folks to do further research and to take his approach to bonsai with a grain of salt. Not everyone lives in Sunny California. I for one know 100% if I were to follow his "proven bonsai soil mix" - basically miracle grow with sand, and put a tree in one his Patent Pending pots with the tiny drain holes in the front, in my climate 7a I would be walking out to trees dying from root rot. Folks please do your homework learn from people in your area, join a local club and find out what works best for your specific climate. Then ask them some thoughts on some of these videos it won't take long before you are your eyes start to roll thru most of these videos.
You are right...Just use what anyone says, mine include, as a starting point, I got it! With that, any pot for any tree is just cine...so long as asthesthtically pleasing. Right?

Great! Enjoy your hobby!
You are welcome
Enjoy your trees!
Nice to see the 3 different stages in 1 video 👍
I thought doing so could give you a better idea the process of crating a bonsai...
This is so amazing! You must have a strong vision to be able to do this successfully. I will try it in my forested backyard.

@MiltonChang thank you
Thank you, Milton! :D
Welcome Manny!
Un grand merci à vous pour la vidéo!
Merci!
nice trunk, maybe worth to do some airlayering there too :)
Too many volunteers everywhere here that we don't think about air layering.
tghabnkjs for the suggestion.

Great video. I have a tall ficus I’m about to cut right back. Your information will be really helpful 😉👍🏻
Hve fun!
Dr. Milton Chang what clippers do you use and how long do they last/ how long should they be used for?

All my wild oaks die. I’d love to know how you uprooted these. Or see a video on how to do it correctly.

Здравствуйте! Очень информативно,спасибо, что делитесь своим опытом.
??? Google translate failed me,.
Can we get a blooper video? I seen the big oak at the end start to fall before the video cut lol I’m sure there are some funny moments
Well! Real life!
🙂

That has been my experience. I can cut them in their first year and maybe second year and they live.
As someone very familiar with these kinds of oaks, I'm surprised the gentleman isn't wearing gloves for protection from their spiky little leaves as he works!
I am willing to do TH-cam video because I have thick skin.
Just kidding...it is not that. bad...spike wise.
@@MiltonChang 🙂

👍👌🙂
😊
😊
Why not air layer the top? 2 for one.
I should have...There are so many volunteers popping up everywhere there does not seem to have a need.
Thanks for pointing this out.
Well, these are horible...😂
Well, you like your and I like mine!
Cheers!
Too bad you don’t like them
