  • Hi there,
For many of my sisters who are on the journey to embracing their natural hair, i'm sure that you may have come across at least one of the comments in this video. In this video I share how I would respond, this doesn't make it the right way, however if you're anything like me, I find that many a times I have walked away from comments and wishing later I had said 'this or that'! Did I miss anything ? I hope you find this video helpful please comment, like and don't forget to subscribe and remember.... Grey Is Okay x

People are often truly confused when you make a decision that suffers from theirs. They have been conditioned to fear being who they really are, and your authenticity is a threat to them. You have chosen to be a silver fox, and they don't understand that confidence.

It's like saying : " Why are you not doing something about those wrinkles on your face, they age you?"
We are living in a fake society. I feel like grey hair makes a big statement about being authentic, this is why i love it.

I started detecting grey hair when I was 18 (hereditary, my dad was really grey when he was 21). I was bullied into dyeing it in my 30s. Now I'm really tired of it, so I've been looking at videos with brunette women who went grey. I feel motivated.

My "friend" told me I have granny hair and that no man will date me now. Women say the meanest things to each other. Like, why do they care?! It's just hair. If I get bored with my grey I'll just dye it. I would never tell a woman to put on lipstick or else she's not pretty enough to date.

I'm a 26 year old hair dresser, I work at a wholesaler for licensed hair professionals.. I have a silver streak in the front that is getting more and more noticeable. I have gotten a few negative comments since I started growing my natural color about a year ago. Practicing self restraint by not coloring my hair even when I really want to has been the biggest challenge. But my hair is the healthiest it's ever been. Longest it's been since cosmetology school. It's crazy to me how many silver hairs I didn't know I had cuz I would change my hair so often.

I am SO grateful my hair grows fast and just got a pixie cut on Friday from a short bob to remove all my blonde and I LOVE it!! It was a shocker for my hubby because I didn’t give him any warning, lol Two days later he’s ok with it 😊 Like he has a choice 🙃😁😂

Sparking strands of wisdom! I started going gray in high school... it's very hereditary in my faimly. I saw my cousin who let her gray grow out for her wedding and I went with it 3 years ago. Fake black to natural no blending. Women are more supportive, ask men and they get weird about it. I'm 35. I have pure white steaks at my temples. Gray everywhere. I don't really care what people think. I dig it.

My new college had seen my photo's with dyed hair and said: OMG you look so young with brown hair....... But those pictures show not my grey mark after two weeks and how thin my hair was. I really had to say to myself : NO, my hair is more beautiful without me dying it. But it hurts a little...I am whole grey now, have a pixie cut and letting it grow again. I am 49 years old bye the way and yes, I don't look 30 anymore, but I am also not 30 anymore.... I am now dreaming about long beautiful grey hair :)

I am 29, will be 30 at the end of this year, and I have been going grey since I was 24/25. I have pretty brown curly hair which has always been my visual 'trademark' and now that my curls have grey in them, I can't help but feel self conscious about it. Even so, I refuse to dye my hair and want to see where this experience takes me 🙂

Wow, you are such a positive inspiration. My sister-in-law originally sent me your link, and that’s how I came across your channel. I started going grey when I was 13 and now at the age of 39 I’ve been fully blonde for about 6 years because of all the silver I have! It just wasn’t worth dying my hair brown anymore as I have so much silver/white/grey! Maybe one day I will let the silver shine out, but it’s not something I feel I am ready to do yet. You look absolutely stunning and you rock your natural colour! How I can relate to some of the comments you have mentioned (when I leave my natural hair to grow out for a while !). Especially, with me being from a Sikh background lol.

I was just tired of maintaining my silver. And you’re 100% correct. I’m now taking better care of everything else while I grow out the silver. Since my hair is blonde and only darker in the back, no one has noticed my grow out and it’s been 9 months. It is absolutely liberating to not care and to still look great when I go out. Because I live where we have 4 seasons, beanie caps are super great for when I don’t want to style my hair or wash it every day. All people are are my blonde ends🥰

I started going gray in 2019. I was so surprised at the amount of gray I had since I never allowed it to be seen and did my roots so very often. It was not my time and I continued with the dye. Then 5 months ago, I realized that was it and I had to quit. The first three months are the hardest. But I wore a ponytail and ignored it. Oh I also do a tiny little part of my crown in the part. This helped me not to focus on it often. After four months growth, it actually started making me happy when I saw the grays coming out. It is now sort of a fun experience to see the gray patterns as it lengthens.

Many of the chemicals in hair dye are carcinogenic!:
Para-Phenylenediamine (PPD): PPD is a common ingredient in permanent hair dyes and has been associated with allergic reactions. While there is some evidence suggesting a possible link between PPD and certain types of cancer, more research is needed to establish a definitive connection.
Resorcinol: Resorcinol is another chemical found in hair dyes, particularly in darker shades. It has been classified as a possible human carcinogen by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC). However, the risk is considered low, and the evidence is not conclusive.
Ammonia: Ammonia is frequently used in hair dyes to help open the hair cuticle and allow color to penetrate. It is not considered to be carcinogenic on its own. However, it can release potentially harmful fumes, which may irritate the respiratory system.

You look great with your grey hair!! And you know whats even greater: You dont put those toxins or your head anymore, that can cause cancers and allergic reactions! I am 38, going grey and i dont even have a choice cause i am allergic to all sorts of hairdye. I am even allergic to plants ( henna and indigo powder is a nightmare, face got swollen. And i am not allergic to anything else, so it started with hairdyes that i got this horrible experience of a swollen face. So for me its not even an option to think about it anymore. I am even so scared for hairdyes now cause of these experiences that i avoid hairsalons cause i cant even stand the smell of hairdyes it triggers a sick feeling. And that makes it very easy for me at age 38, since that happened to me i totally relax about my greys, cause i can just be myself for the rest of my life.

The power and confidence it takes to be your authentic self takes time but when you get it you shine! I am 55 and allowing my grey hair sparkle but I also teach holistic skin care. I have had people say that I don’t care because I dont inject or do invasive things or wear foundation or concealer? Loved this!

I started having grey hair at 18 so at 46 I have decided to just let it be and grow out my beautiful salt & pepper greys. My husband was at first negative about it, but now he actually really likes it! He said it helps that I style it and not just put it in a ponytail.

Love the smile! That says it all! My aunt who is 87 is my worst critic! My gray is on the sides. So be it! People still don't believe I'm 58! Even if I looked older, whose business is it? And... it's all a choice anyway! Why people concern themselves with others' appearance is beyond me!

My first comment ever on TH-cam and I couldn’t help but feel a bit teary by your elegant responses to rude comments to grey hair. 🥹🤗
I have suffered from rude comments from friends and family as well as extremely rude stares when I let it all grow out from my mid-20s as that was when I started greying and then from early-2019 I have been dyeing my greys.
Hopefully one day I have the courage to just let it all be au natural again.

I cut off about 12 inches of dark brown hair and now I have a salt and pepper bob at 44 years old. I have had some very negative remarks made including one young man at work ask me if I was going to dye it as if there was something wrong with it. I simply responded with “would you ask a man if he was going to color his hair ?” I also wanted to grow into my age with gray hair and I do think it is elegant but I am afraid I am not strong enough. I need to learn to love myself and not compare myself to what I looked like 10 years ago, and not care what people think. Your channel is helping me

Aww sorry to read this Michael, self love is already hard enough without the worries of the colour of our hair. This young guy probably didn’t even think it would offend and must have felt it was a natural question- and therein is the problem. We are the same age and just keep going lovely, it’s ok if you do change your mind just make sure it’s what you want and not succumbing to the pressures of anyone else. Your hair looks amazing on you xx

I have grey hair since I was a baby and all my life. A lot of people stare because they stereotype that people have to be certain age to have grey. I love it the way it's been. I get lots of compliments from people because it's natural.

I'm 6months into letting my grey hair and what's left of my natural colour grow out. I'm 54 and last week when I stated that I was intentionally growing out my grey to a work mate, I was told, you are too young looking to grow out your grey hair and I hate to tell you, women over 50 don't look good with long HAIR! I'm currently growing my hair and it's at waist length now and it's in lovely condition. (Had a trim last week) They laughed and told me I would look like a witch or a scaggy old tramp and continued to take the micky. I laughed it off and very nearly considered doing a henna treatment as that's all I've ever done. Then I thought no! I won't be tormented by someone who is my age, a fellow woman who dyes her hair black every two weeks to look so called young??? The moral of the story is, you are as young as you feel, stick to your own intentions, be happy that you have lived long enough to see grey hair and wise enough to embrace you own body as it is and be content. Other people's conviction about convention don't make them right. Loved this vlog, you look absolutely beautiful, simply stunning. A massive thank you from me.😘

Agree with your unsolicited comments point. I'm a guy and transitioned to grey recently and while most of the comments are positive it's still strange that people (even in the workplace where commenting on appearance is quite taboo) are weirdly comfortable commenting on your hairs appearance.

Great video and great tips on what to say when people comment.
I think your hair looks stunning with it's natural highlights.
I'm only 2 months into my journey and can't wait until I have more white/silver hair as I love the little bit I have now and the way it shines and catches the light. I do sometimes spray it with a brown colour as it is still at the "lockdown, have you not got to the hairdressers look" but as soon as it gets long enough I will be rocking it and will probably use temporary wash out dye on the awful dyed brown ends.
If you've not heard of "Empowered Greys" here on YT you should get in touch with them so you can feature on their channel of silver sisters who have gone natural. It is so inspiring to see so many beautiful natural women celebrating their natural hair in those videos.

@@TheGreyIndian today a young lady complimented me for my natural grey colour. She asked me if I dyed my hair. The reason why she was so surprised was my age. Being young, in your 40's + going grey = a cool statement.
You named it and it is probably the most important reason to start while you are young.
Still, from what you have shared, your friends/family don't seem to be always very supporting.
      This can wear you down.
I admire how calm you deal with negative comments and I do wish you tons of positive reactions and lots of compliments, because it suits you really well.

since many years I'm a fan of grey hair.when the person takes good care of it and is generally a well groomed person.clorhes and make up etc.in zurich I've seen many ladies with beautifully cut grey hair.
I wear a wig for religious reasons. It's in my original haircolour with some Highlights.
My hair now is salt and pepper and I would love to go gray.but I haven't found a wig that fits me.i need a large size.and most wigs are made average or small.

I cut my hair into a pixie. *I* love it, but some random follower on social media decided it was his business to tell me that "long hair suits you better". I'm sorry, but I didn't ask for your OPINION of my style choice. I'm married, my husband loves me and supports whatever hair/style I choose because he actually loves me. It is infuriating that people have the nerve to insult others so easily. Also, this person was shocked that I told him he was rude. "That wasn't my intention" he said. And instead of apologizing he unfollowed my account. Okay, BYE. Saved me the trouble of blocking you. Everyone, you feel free to be YOU. That's what's really beautiful! Authenticity.🙏💛
