First it was just a few strands but by late 30s it was markedly visible so I began dyeing my hair. As my hair grows fast I found myself at the hairdressers once every 5 weeks! Am 49 now and was really getting tired of the time & money I was spending on it. This pandemic made me rethink my lifestyle including who I wanted to be vs how I was expected to be. I decided to embrace my greys and not be ashamed of it! For the first time in 12 years I feel free. It's just been a month and my roots are visible! I strongly believe that once women get fed up with living up to other’s expectations and find they’re not enjoying the dying process then just ‘stop’ ! There are some great colour removers on the market that help you get to your natural colour sooner. I tried Zalon and it made my hair feel really healthy after stripping back the build up from dying.
I'm 43 and last year I did my transition to grey in way number 1. I got my hair cut really short and took it from there. It takes a long time to grow it back, that's a fact, but it also grows more homogeneous and healthier. I don't regret it at all, quite the opposite in fact. I love my natural hair. It's perfect as it is. Very proud of my decision. Love from Spain btw..
ola' Angie! thats amazing, I love the idea of buzz cuts because of the very reason you mentioned above. the thought of completely natural undamaged hair growing through sounds lovely.
I just use a wig for the first few months instead of going cold turkey in public and it is marvelous, 5 minutes and here I go. My demarcation is white and dark brown so quite visible. At home i just let them down.
The process you’re referring to in #7 is called “lowlights” but in giving you lowlights your stylist had to “fill in” your hair with the spectrum of colors that fall between “blorange” and the dark color you want. This is to ensure a natural and long-lasting result. Since bleach strips all the colors out of your hair follicle, to get back to dark you have to add or “fill” them all back in.

You are gorgeous and such an inspiration! I have been growing out my roots since March but made a horrible mistake in June getting highlights to help the transition. It was an expensive lesson for me to learn patience. I think “filling in” or lowlights could help me for my next phase but I am going to wait longer for my hair to heal. It turns out my roots are coming in very dark and salt & pepper but the major gray is around my face like yours. Watching your videos gives me hope. Thank you 🙏.
I done the buzz cut I’m 33 and have been getting grey hairs since I was 14 I’m at the awkward messy stage atm 😒🙈😂 I’ve been dying my hair jet black since 16 and it got to the point where I had to dye my roots every week 🤦🏻♀️ I can’t wait to see what it’s like when it’s all drown out 👌☺️

You’re so lovely! Loved your advice as it pertains to anyone. I decided last April to stop coloring as gray is gorgeous and very IN now. I saw a pic of a woman probably younger than me at 56 who’s gray hair was gorgeous and she looked like my twin! So I quit ordering from E-Salon and just stopped everything. I bought Redken purple shampoo and conditioner and used it a couple days a week. In my profile pic I was at 5 months and you can’t tell! In the sun I still look like a blonde as my natural color is ash blonde. I’m at 9 months and I had no idea I’m only really gray in the front and side but not the back. Keeping my hair curled really helps with the demarcation lines in the back. The sides are blonde and gray and I have those really great money pieces as my gray is heavy on the front middle. I’m so excited to have the blonde gone, but I’m just trimming the bottom as the top grows to lessen the blonde length. Thank you for taking us on your journey! I had already planned it and my stylist tapered off a bit more & more on my highlights the last few times before the pandemic. Then, it was the perfect time for cold turkey! Still haven't cut it (New Year will be perfect time for a fresh lob) and just use chopstick-like accessories to keep it in an updo. Looking forward to getting my lob back with my natural color this time! :-)
Thanks for all the ideas! When I decided to transition last July during the pandemic I had. I idea what I could do myself at home. I made the mistake of bleaching my hair at home to strip the existing colour but it also damaged my hair. Definitely better left to the professionals! 💇🏼♀️
I'm 57 and was bleached. So I filled in and dyed to as close to my natural dark brown as I could. At the moment I am cold turkey but may go with the strip dye technique if it gets to be too much. Unlike others I just cannot do a buzz or pixie because I love my long hair. I didn't really start going grey until I was 55 but I suspect I will be like my mother who at 76 STILL has dark hair underneath and at the back. Great video outlining ALL the options. I have, like you, just a little grey at temples...the rest is dark..but the lengths are warm toned and lighter... I am trying to overcome this transition with low-lights (something like your version No.7). Using dark grey strands...wish me luck! I am so looking forward to have more and more of silver!

Awesome tips! I grew few greys in my early thirties, but they were deep inside my many layers of hair, so not so visible at the time. Once I turned 35-36 they slowly became more visible on the outer layers. By 41, it was about 7% grey. I'm currently at 10% grey at 44. Funny enough, I now take better care of my hair than I ever have before. Not yet ready for cold turkey grown-out grey style, but I do color it once to twice a month (probably will try highlights/balayage). It's pricey, but I'm prepared to go cold turkey grey when the time is right. I might even opt for wigs, including funky fashion colors, since I've always had loud, flamboyant taste. For all the younger ladies out there: please don't take your hair for granted; accomplish all your hair goals before the greys make their way in : - )

What a great video showing the options. I let my gray grow out a few years ago. Some gray some dark brown. But the gray was dull and I felt drab so I started dying my hair a lot! Browns and Gingers. But I want my gray back again. I tried the decolour only one box once on the top half of my head and it took off the first layer of colour - brown, which left a vibrant orange/ginger. I worked out it would cost hundreds for me to strip the colour out so for now I'm ginger brown, with touches of gray. 😊

My journey started 4 years ago, I just let my greys grow out naturally. After I found out how sensitive I was to chemicals which also effected my health. I decided to go as natural as possibe. When you dye your hair it goes to you bloodstream I think is very toxicating. No wonder why many women suffers all kinds of deaseses. My suggestion, health is first! Drink plenty of water, exercise everyday, take hair vitamins and don't be shy to embrace your grey hair! You're all beautiful! 🥰
My hair is so much healthier now that I'm natural. My colored hair didn't sparkle in the sun. It was dry and frizzy. I'll never go back to bottle blond.
Thank You for making it short and sweet - may just let it grow naturally but I also like the strip dye tend to just want to let it grow out, don't want the chemicals anymore. I noticed as I got older I am more sensitive to perfumes and chemicals. I would rather not be loading my brain with chemicals any longer :)

My experience with hair stripping was that it works on dark dye as dark dye deposits colour but bleach takes pigment away. Not sure if it’s true but years ago I stripped years of box dye away and it worked quite well 🙌🏼 I’m a cold turkey girl! Like you said, once I committed to the transition I’m too scared to get it coloured or blended haha. Another great video x

You're so beautiful! Also, I thought you'd say that you're 29 or 30 years old. I opted for the highlighting option (my hair dresser is great (and he's a silver fox himself) and he loves greys so he put a bunch on teeny tiny highlights where I had more greys and barely any where I had fewer greys). They've grown out quite a bit now (even though you cannot tell at all), but people still ask how often I do my highlights. They're very surprised when I tell them I did them twice a year last year, and won't do them anymore, as the highlights just naturally grow out of my scalp now. LOL

Thank you so much. I began going Grey in my 20s. I have dies my hip length hair all my life since, having black hair. I am 68 now,long past time to change it to Grey. Thinking about the shave.
I'm 44 myself .....and I started transitioning to grey myself.....almost did the bleach method......but hair is very fine and would have fried my hair ......and was growing it out to shoulder length...... my hair is naturally a level two dark brown and I noticed that I was probably about 50 to 60% gray already...... I used high-level blonde hair color level 10 series the lightest I could find in an ash tone..... the rule of thumb is that color won't lift color but slowly and surely by using a 30 volume developer on it I was able to strip out the hair color going lighter to levels every time........ then I would use Redken Shades EQ on my hair..... so if I came out with a blood orange hair I was able to counteract it with a toner to get me sort of a darker blonde Sandy color...... then as the demi-permanent washed out of my hair I would use another session of high-level blonde hair dye to technically work as a slow lifting action...... I don't even have a name for it but technically I use the high-level blond series permanent hair color as like a slow slow slow process lifting bleach almost it did less damage to my hair and it was more of a six to nine-month process...... and just like when somebody bleaches their hair and they tone it out the orange with a blue based that's technically what I used to tone out with the Shades EQ ....... and I noticed that the Shades EQ is a very very light dim my permanent died that would fade and yes you can use it to cover the gray if you use it for 40 minutes...... as I said I don't even know if this is a process that people know about but I did it gradually just like a step at a time and it was a little bit easier for my hair than bleaching it all out at once..... also I did start using once I got a little bit more into the grey gravestones the fanciful Roux rinse the colors true steel and silver lining they helped me not have that yellowish tone to my Gray's or other hair

I'm 59 and currently going through chemo, which means I lost my all hair. I'm thinking of going grey when it grows out again, but I have doubts that I would look 70 instead of the age I am. I really don't need to feel worse about myself than necessary. I'm about 40% grey, at the sides and front mostly. I have olive skin tone and a diamond face shape ( this face shape doesn't age well imo). Due to the chemos I had 14 years ago ( + additional "treatments) and these ones im getting now, my skin has long lost its elasticity past than would be normal for a 59-year-old. This combined with the unattractive face shape and that although I have a lot of hair but quite thin in texture makes me doubt that it would be a good idea going grey, even though I'm sick and tired of dying my hair every 5 weeks. I see women with oval face shape and firm skin and they look great and beautiful with grey hair. I think I would just look like my own grandmother 🙂

Great options! I’ve Always wondered why my greys comes out very strong around the frame of my face and top of my head where my bangs are. But after seeing your video I’m realizing this happens to a lot of people as well. My front is grey while the middle towards the back is mostly black. Would anyone know why that is?

I'm following you, I like your style. I have the same color of skin that you have. I'm from Mexico, and here (in my city) there are no one who really like this gray style. Young girls use gray hair as a fashion matter. But women on their 40's never, never use it. If you do that, then, they think you are a poor or just a lazy and a loser woman. That makes me crazy. I really like your eye makeup & want to copy it My hair is between 1-2. I shaved most of it & left a long Mohawk that I can style as a bob. My hair is super thick so Mohawk is convenient when I wear hijab

Your grey looks amazing. I am two months into transition and can now start to see my grey pattern and loving it. Unfortunately like you I went for lightening my very dark, dyed hair and ruined it into orange! Any tips on darkening and removing frizz? I have cut it to shoulder length which helped but it still looks awful.
@@jenniferhopetinker4783 I went for keratin treatment, which helped a lot and after that regular (at least weekly) hair mask to restore moisture. Read a great tip for maintaining the keratin treatment, before shampooing apply conditioner to dry hair, this will minimise water absorption and therefore keep the keratin in for longer. I also use toners to remove the orange tint. Hope that helps.

They claim to reverse greying, or at the least prevent further greying. I started these 3 months ago, I am beginning to see some lighter colour through the tips of my white hair. I am going to give them 1 year and see if it works. All the best.

I just use a wig for the first few months instead of going cold turkey in public and it is marvelous, 5 minutes and here I go. My demarcation is white and dark brown so quite visible. At home i just let them down.
The process you’re referring to in #7 is called “lowlights” but in giving you lowlights your stylist had to “fill in” your hair with the spectrum of colors that fall between “blorange” and the dark color you want. This is to ensure a natural and long-lasting result. Since bleach strips all the colors out of your hair follicle, to get back to dark you have to add or “fill” them all back in.

You are gorgeous and such an inspiration! I have been growing out my roots since March but made a horrible mistake in June getting highlights to help the transition. It was an expensive lesson for me to learn patience. I think “filling in” or lowlights could help me for my next phase but I am going to wait longer for my hair to heal. It turns out my roots are coming in very dark and salt & pepper but the major gray is around my face like yours. Watching your videos gives me hope. Thank you 🙏.
I done the buzz cut I’m 33 and have been getting grey hairs since I was 14 I’m at the awkward messy stage atm 😒🙈😂 I’ve been dying my hair jet black since 16 and it got to the point where I had to dye my roots every week 🤦🏻♀️ I can’t wait to see what it’s like when it’s all drown out 👌☺️

You’re so lovely! Loved your advice as it pertains to anyone. I decided last April to stop coloring as gray is gorgeous and very IN now. I saw a pic of a woman probably younger than me at 56 who’s gray hair was gorgeous and she looked like my twin! So I quit ordering from E-Salon and just stopped everything. I bought Redken purple shampoo and conditioner and used it a couple days a week. In my profile pic I was at 5 months and you can’t tell! In the sun I still look like a blonde as my natural color is ash blonde. I’m at 9 months and I had no idea I’m only really gray in the front and side but not the back. Keeping my hair curled really helps with the demarcation lines in the back. The sides are blonde and gray and I have those really great money pieces as my gray is heavy on the front middle. I’m so excited to have the blonde gone, but I’m just trimming the bottom as the top grows to lessen the blonde length. Thank you for taking us on your journey! 18 months ago I decided that was enough and I wanted to see my real colour. So relieved it was a platinum silver.
I won't be going back, but it does take time to recognise yourself without your dark hair. Years probably...

I had already planned it and my stylist tapered off a bit more & more on my highlights the last few times before the pandemic. Then, it was the perfect time for cold turkey! Still haven't cut it (New Year will be perfect time for a fresh lob) and just use chopstick-like accessories to keep it in an updo. Looking forward to getting my lob back with my natural color this time! :-)
Thanks for all the ideas! When I decided to transition last July during the pandemic I had. I idea what I could do myself at home. I made the mistake of bleaching my hair at home to strip the existing colour but it also damaged my hair. Definitely better left to the professionals! 💇🏼♀️

I'm 57 and was bleached. So I filled in and dyed to as close to my natural dark brown as I could. At the moment I am cold turkey but may go with the strip dye technique if it gets to be too much. Unlike others I just cannot do a buzz or pixie because I love my long hair. I didn't really start going grey until I was 55 but I suspect I will be like my mother who at 76 STILL has dark hair underneath and at the back. Great video outlining ALL the options. I have, like you, just a little grey at temples...the rest is dark..but the lengths are warm toned and lighter... I am trying to overcome this transition with low-lights (something like your version No.7). Using dark grey strands...wish me luck! I am so looking forward to have more and more of silver!

Awesome tips! I grew few greys in my early thirties, but they were deep inside my many layers of hair, so not so visible at the time. Once I turned 35-36 they slowly became more visible on the outer layers. By 41, it was about 7% grey. I'm currently at 10% grey at 44. Funny enough, I now take better care of my hair than I ever have before. Not yet ready for cold turkey grown-out grey style, but I do color it once to twice a month (probably will try highlights/balayage). It's pricey, but I'm prepared to go cold turkey grey when the time is right. I might even opt for wigs, including funky fashion colors, since I've always had loud, flamboyant taste. For all the younger ladies out there: please don't take your hair for granted; accomplish all your hair goals before the greys make their way in : - )

What a great video showing the options. I let my gray grow out a few years ago. Some gray some dark brown. But the gray was dull and I felt drab so I started dying my hair a lot! Browns and Gingers. But I want my gray back again. I tried the decolour only one box once on the top half of my head and it took off the first layer of colour - brown, which left a vibrant orange/ginger. I worked out it would cost hundreds for me to strip the colour out so for now I'm ginger brown, with touches of gray. 😊

Shoots, 2019 profile pic I have yet to figure out how to change. Currently, 68 years young started cold turkey transitioning fall last year. Another option grey/silver hair helpers, strands, scruchies, extensions. etc. In addition, my fave love sleek hair toppers letting bio darker hair down. Strands are great for lighlights or lowlights. You'll find transitioning can be appealing and effortless. So many options, elegant is the word I hear often. Silver sisters jump in😉🙃🙂❣

Don't touch my grays!!! I really understand what you mean. I have been in this transition for 2 years now and I feel FREE!!! I feel so good not having any chemicals on my hair.
My journey started 4 years ago, I just let my greys grow out naturally.
After I found out how sensitive I was to chemicals which also effected my health. I decided to go as natural as possibe. When you dye your hair it goes to you bloodstream I think is very toxicating. No wonder why many women suffers all kinds of deaseses.
My suggestion, health is first!
Drink plenty of water, exercise everyday, take hair vitamins and don't be shy to embrace your grey hair!

My hair is so much healthier now that I'm natural. My colored hair didn't sparkle in the sun. It was dry and frizzy. I'll never go back to bottle blond.

Thank You for making it short and sweet - may just let it grow naturally but I also like the strip dye tend to just want to let it grow out, don't want the chemicals anymore. I noticed as I got older I am more sensitive to perfumes and chemicals. I would rather not be loading my brain with chemicals any longer :)

I am thankful for your video I am just beginning to go grey and I’m almost 70 years old so you helped me have an amazing solution I want my hair to fill in quicker I have a short pixie cut and it’s just greying and I don’t believe I will do anything at all I am just used to my hair having a very good texture and shiny appearance as its filling in it appears the hair that’s been red my whole life has gone dark auburn and not shiny like it is dying as it goes slowly grey and it is a very pretty grey I have seen it fill in in a year I don’t want solid color but my old hair was mixed blonde,red hair which was a color that you would pay to get so just the rather fast change for me and was odd to me as my family doesn’t grey until late in life like around 75 my father wasn’t grey all the way when he passed away and momma still had the dark auburn hair in her hair that she wore in a low bun as she never cut her hair but the hair that was not in bun was a beautiful grey I was just fascinated by that. My experience with hair stripping was that it works on dark dye as dark dye deposits colour but bleach takes pigment away. Not sure if it’s true but years ago I stripped years of box dye away and it worked quite well 🙌🏼 I’m a cold turkey girl! Like you said, once I committed to the transition I’m too scared to get it coloured or blended haha. Another great video x

I opted for the highlighting option (my hair dresser is great (and he's a silver fox himself) and he loves greys so he put a bunch on teeny tiny highlights where I had more greys and barely any where I had fewer greys). They've grown out quite a bit now (even though you cannot tell at all), but people still ask how often I do my highlights. They're very surprised when I tell them I did them twice a year last year, and won't do them anymore, as the highlights just naturally grow out of my scalp now. LOL

Opposite of highlights area called lowlight.
I'm 44 myself .....and I started transitioning to grey myself.....almost did the bleach method......but hair is very fine and would have fried my hair ......and was growing it out to shoulder length...... my hair is naturally a level two dark brown and I noticed that I was probably about 50 to 60% gray already...... I used high-level blonde hair color level 10 series the lightest I could find in an ash tone..... the rule of thumb is that color won't lift color but slowly and surely by using a 30 volume developer on it I was able to strip out the hair color going lighter to levels every time........ then I would use Redken Shades EQ on my hair..... so if I came out with a blood orange hair I was able to counteract it with a toner to get me sort of a darker blonde Sandy color...... then as the demi-permanent washed out of my hair I would use another session of high-level blonde hair dye to technically work as a slow lifting action...... I don't even have a name for it but technically I use the high-level blond series permanent hair color as like a slow slow slow process lifting bleach almost it did less damage to my hair and it was more of a six to nine-month process...... and just like when somebody bleaches their hair and they tone it out the orange with a blue based that's technically what I used to tone out with the Shades EQ ....... and I noticed that the Shades EQ is a very very light dim my permanent died that would fade and yes you can use it to cover the gray if you use it for 40 minutes...... as I said I don't even know if this is a process that people know about but I did it gradually just like a step at a time and it was a little bit easier for my hair than bleaching it all out at once..... also I did start using once I got a little bit more into the grey gravestones the fanciful Roux rinse the colors true steel and silver lining they helped me not have that yellowish tone to my Gray's or other hair

I'm 59 and currently going through chemo, which means I lost my all hair. I'm thinking of going grey when it grows out again, but I have doubts that I would look 70 instead of the age I am. I really don't need to feel worse about myself than necessary. I'm about 40% grey, at the sides and front mostly. I have olive skin tone and a diamond face shape ( this face shape doesn't age well imo). Due to the chemos I had 14 years ago ( + additional "treatments) and these ones im getting now, my skin has long lost its elasticity past than would be normal for a 59-year-old. This combined with the unattractive face shape and that although I have a lot of hair but quite thin in texture makes me doubt that it would be a good idea going grey, even though I'm sick and tired of dying my hair every 5 weeks. I see women with oval face shape and firm skin and they look great and beautiful with grey hair. I think I would just look like my own grandmother 🙂

Aah Jos, everyone has different growth, I honestly thought I would have a lot more grey, we all go through the stage of being unsure, but give it time it will have its own appeal.
I love the look of greys growing in on dark hair but my hair is mousy brown and there is no beautiful contrast from the shiny silver to the dark brown or black. Any suggestions on this?

I'm following you, I like your style. I have the same color of skin that you have. I'm from Mexico, and here (in my city) there are no one who really like this gray style. Young girls use gray hair as a fashion matter. But women on their 40's never, never use it. If you do that, then, they think you are a poor or just a lazy and a loser woman.
That makes me crazy. I'm wearing my gray hair proudly, but... sometimes, I feel complete desperate because I still having the old color on my hair. And just like you I have like 3 colors on my hair. Because after the pandemia I've decided to have blind and copper highlights. My hair is between 1-2. I shaved most of it & left a long Mohawk that I can style as a bob. My hair is super thick so Mohawk is convenient when I wear hijab

Your grey looks amazing. I am two months into transition and can now start to see my grey pattern and loving it. Unfortunately like you I went for lightening my very dark, dyed hair and ruined it into orange! Any tips on darkening and removing frizz? I went for keratin treatment, which helped a lot and after that regular (at least weekly) hair mask to restore moisture. Read a great tip for maintaining the keratin treatment, before shampooing apply conditioner to dry hair, this will minimise water absorption and therefore keep the keratin in for longer. I also use toners to remove the orange tint. Hope that helps.

Hi there, I wanted to also let you know about Anti Grey tablets, these tablets replace the compounds we naturally make in our bodies that give our hair it’s colour. They claim to reverse greying, or at the least prevent further greying. I started these 3 months ago, I am beginning to see some lighter colour through the tips of my white hair. I am going to give them 1 year and see if it works. All the best.
