- The plaintiffs are a father and son. The son rented an apartment from the defendant, but the defendant had a problem with the plaintiff’s pet ferret. He had to move out, so he’s suing for the cost of the security deposit and a listing fee. The defendant argues the plaintiff never told him about the ferret and he had an allergic reaction to it. He says the animal stunk up their apartment.

@@TukwilaRed1974no. If you pay back only “part” of what someone says you owe them, a judge is likely to infer that you believe you owe more than what I paid back. Refuse the whole thing until they acquiesce or sue you.
I had a woman living with me who had two ferrets. They actually were not smelly at all. I think some of the odor-releasing glands might have been removed, also, she bathed them, which they didn't mind. These ferrets were box trained-- they used the same litter boxes as my cats. The ferrets and the cats got along famously, playing all day long. They were among the sweetest animals I have ever met. Ferrets are getting a bad rap here. I'm not sure if this young man knows how to take care of them properly.

Most if not all ferrets in the states are descented, we have one in a small apartment and you definitely can't smell him across the house, only the bedding he uses often gets smelly, and that's only like a frito/corn chip type smell, wet/dirty dogs smell way worse imo.
I own a ferret and you'd never know - I get visitors who are shocked when they find out I have a ferret for the first time due to juts bathing and cleaning their boxes - it's no different than a cat; if you don't clean the litter boxes, then yeah, there's gonna be an odor, lmao.
@@Purrrtiful I enjoy Judge Milian, but sometimes her views about animals are less than charitable. Pit Bulls are usually vicious, ferrets are always smelly. Cats are, well you know, nice for people who like them.

Really liked this father. Very supportive and even tempered from what I can see.
I've had 2 ferrets. You need to bathe them very regularly...not once a year lol. Twice a week.... and clean out their enclosure regularly. You can wash the stink off them and if they are well domesticated, they won't release their scent glands through fright or alarm, but the stench of their poop is awful. That said, they always potty in the same corner, so cleaning out their area is easy. Female ferrets will die if not desexed due to oestrus issues.
I run a rescue here where I reside and yes they need bathed no doubt. It’s costly to have too but I also have other animals I can legally have but in rentals are illegal
My son's ferrets showered with him. They were still vile smelling but cute.
They get bathed more than I do. 😂

It smells if you aren’t cleaning it as often. I had three & they did not smell.
Smells like a dog or cat that stinks, no difference. You actually can get their odors removed which is better than dogs or cats. I’ve had 3 and that was the case. Much easier than my dog
It doesn't smell if you clean it often. We have one and we clean her cage 3 times a week.

Did you know ferrets are apex predators and hunt squirrels which are only slightly smaller. They are related to bears and wolverine and after wolverine solo hunt the largest game relative to body mass of any animal on earth. Basically they are tiny wolverines.... top that fackt brew.

The son clearly isnt taking good care of the ferret because in no way should it stink up 2 apartments. You have the bathe them minimum 2x a week and clean their cage everyday. The son shouldnt own a ferret if hes letting it stink that bad. Hes clearly not mentally all there.
If I may share, when some people have allergies they are more sensitive to the scent. I have allergies to shellfish and I can smell it before seeing it- so perhaps this was because he is so sensitive. It is hard to imagine this young man would intentionally mistreat his pet.
Sounds like he either has to give up the ferret or leave NY.

It could be I know some people who got ptsd from boot camp one was a female who was grape multiple times for a few months and when the supervisor or whatever they call the person in charge found out they say she was offering sex to guys for money to her instructor so she got discharge and it mark against her so she couldn't even get a government job after that. She won a lawsuit years later because apparently a lot of the guys video tape it and they show it to someone and that someone told someone.
Another person was bullied which included torture, sexual assaulted, and beat up for the whole duration of boot camp.
I don't know if someone has said this already, but ferrets are legal in New York state, just not within NYC (the five boroughs).
NYC allows rats, why not ferrets?

@@j0cees who are you replying to? I mentioned the distinction because Judge Milian kept saying they're not legal in the STATE, which is wrong. I’m from Queens. When I tried a buying a ferret in LI, I was told I couldn't because my address was within NYC limits, as are all of the five boroughs.

The defendant lied multiple times about not knowing it was there. Then he admits they talked about it before signing the lease. He allowed it then didn't want it there. A headache is not a allergic reaction 😂

I think plaintiffs are what’s referred to as nose blind its when you are around a smell enough you stop noticing it (think of smokers and hoarders etc.)

I’m sorry, I’ve had 3. Ferrets normally are solid spayed or neutered, declawed and request to descent. Even if they aren’t any of those things, it isn’t that bad if you simply bathe them. This case doesn’t make sense and I think the landlord is milking this

A couple we knew had a female ferret who roamed their flat and had a little drawer she slept in. She had a slight musky smell herself, but did not stink up their flat. Not sure how they managed it but she was lovely.

I'm no Dr. but not sure it was the right thing to do to have him go in basic training, he may be on the spectrum. And many people who are on the spectrum can have good jobs and function well in the world. But I'm sure they ripped him to shreds in basic.

My mother was shot in the head in front of me on new years day... I was eight and stood over her as she's gasped for air, stared into her eyes as they became still and lifeless. And then I was swept under the rug and forgot about.... but I never could forget. It bothers me when people claim ptsd over mild trauma. Discomfort is part of life you don't have ptsd unless your life is dominated by fear, paranoia, sadness, anger, stress, lack of sleep lack of trust lack of connection lack of peace constant hyper vigilance. Nightmares, negative thinking, intrusive thought, problems with men, authority, cars, people, sounds, guns. Constant flight or fight. Survival mode, obsessive compulsive, agoraphobia, crazy eyes, bad vibes, and never feeling safe only being comfortable alone sleeping with a knife, hammer and machete beside the bed. And I haven't even had breakfast yet. This guy doesn't have ptsd just because he got picked on in military training (what was he thinking!?) He wasn't shot down in Vietnam, hes just weasely like his ferret. But yeah I have mommy issues that's why I watch Marilyn Millan... spank me. It makes me feel safe and under control... comedy is a remedy for tragedy. Don't get swallowed by despair. Life is sadly unfair.

My friend in elementary school got a ferret and he started coming to school smelling like piss every day. Maybe if you care for them properly you can avoid it but a lot of ferret owners choose to be delusional instead.

Ferrets are very stinky. They use their scent as a defense mechanism toward other prey. You can get their scent glands removed but it's expensive. If you keep them indoors, you have to clean the cage every single day. Their urine and poop is very concentrated. 😢 They are great pets but you have to give them a lot of attention.
