  • This is yet another start. I find it so hard to part with things! Enjoy this full closet tour of all my clothes and watch my second step to closet minimalism. As you can see, I've had most of these items for *years*. I'm excited to keep moving towards making each piece in my closet long-lasting, meaningful and reflective of my style.
Becoming a Minimalist Part 1: • My First Step to Minim...
(I've also done other things in my life to move towards minimalism that I haven't filmed!)
Tips for minimalism always welcome! ✨
I hope this inspires someone to realise that you can wear and re-wear and re-wear again the same pieces!! In a world where fast fashion is rampant, I think we could all do with adopting a more minimalistic mindset 💛

At first I understood very little, but after only 3 episodes, I picked up so many phrases! There was definitely magic in just sitting with my brother and having him be the expert.

I feel like the irony of minimalism for me is that the reduction in stress I get from having fewer clothes etc. is cancelled out by the stress in trying to decide what to throw away hahaha

Just some food for thought: I can't fit into the clothes I wore 6 years ago. And that's okay! If you're like me and have had to buy different clothes as your weight changes, don't feel guilty about not being the most perfect sustainable person ever. Bodies change sometimes and that's okay. And if your old clothes do fit, that's awesome too!

    • @bilingualbasia9519

YES! Last winter I put on a lot of weight, mostly because of OCs that were just not suitable for me (I changed them obviously, but the weight stayed the same). Not being able to fit into your clothes was awful and I felt so bad that I had to buy even more clothes, but now I am grateful for that size change, becauce the smaller clothes weren't really my style and I could create an updated, more minimal wardrobe . Plus in my case I was a bit underweight before, so now I feel a lot healthier.

I can’t fit in clothes from like 2 or 3 years ago, almost entirely because I went from being pretty short and large to being 6’2 and a lot thinner over like 2 years, which sounds nice I suppose but it isn’t cos I’ve had to buy new clothes way too often.

Yes, to people who have money. Or minimalists. Regular people want to have a fair amount of clothes, and not wear the same things every other day (bcs that would happen if they spent more money on clothes - they would have a lot less of it because they couldnt afford it). And I'm not talking about 50 dresses, I'm talking about 5. And those 5 are worth less than 1 from "slow fashion".

Honestly the thing about being in the UK is so true 😂 so hard to be minimalistic when you have to be prepared for all weather! And I always keep a basic pair of jeans but rarely wear them because I feel boring in them 😂 but I always convince myself that I need them because they’re an ‘essential’. I’m trying to bring back some of my old items of clothing I’ve forgotten I had at the moment! Rather than buying new ones.

    • @lilian8803

Well minimalism is about only having what you truly need. If you have four seasons you do need clothes for all four seasons. Obviously quite easy to only have 30 pieces of clothing when you live in L.A. and the temperature doesn’t really drop to freezing nor is it raining a lot. So no reason to feel bad about the things you do need

Great reminder for us who need to sort out our clothes hehe! Here's a tip: I think the KonMari method advocates for more of a direct all at once ruthless attack to declutter while some like to take their time and declutter one at a time. A good middlepoint is the Minimalism game, where you start with decluttering one thing, then declutter two the next day, and keep adding until the end of the month. Good luck to all of us trying to minimise and optimise!

0:47 everything you said there also 100% applied to me! I stopped growing when I was like 13 (I was that one tall girl my entire childhood but I'm 1m70 so that's quite average now that I'm an adult) so I still own so many clothes from when I was 13 that still fit and aren't damaged but I'm 20 now and it really doesn't feel like me anymore. I also don't buy a lot of clothes because I have social anxiety and shopping is ACTUALLY my worst nightmare I hate it (which sucks because I do love fashion very much and find it so interesting, and online shopping doesn't interest me either). I've done a lot of growing and reflecting since I turned 20 at the beginning of this year (I know it sounds stupid but it does actually change you) and I know more about who I am, I want that to reflect in my clothes. But I also don't have a specific style, I'm the same as you, I dress like a modern hippy but at the same time, I'm also into dark academia and the moody preppy school girl vibes! (since now we're with 2 people that's a group and we can officially call it a style haha). I've done a little closet clean out and thrown out the things that just aren't wearable anymore or that I just really don't like (mostly clothes I got passed down by family members). I've been trying to go to secondhand stores and I'd like to go to vintage shops but as long as the current situation doesn't calm down I would be much to anxious to go. I think I'm going to start just like you in this video, and say goodbye to the clothes that don't fit who I am anymore. I know it won't be easy because I put so much emotional value in material things, but I'm trying to stop doing that so much.

I’ve been doing the same thing! Trying to find more sustainable, longer lasting items that I LOVE and that are 100% my style.
I spent a lot of money on cheap, fast fashioney clothes during my first year of uni because I needed a lot more clothes and that’s what I could afford but now I’m hoping to build up my wardrobe with better pieces 💖

this means SO much, thank you! 🦋 and you're so right. We often fall victim to social media and blame it for feeling low, forgetting our power in carving that online environment. Glad it resonated!!

When choosing clothes it better be, "Hell yeas!" or "No." There is no in between.
It's better to use more money on less ( but high quality) rather than to use less money on more.

I know I’m late but I am rewatching all of your videos! I love them! Anyway, with the light brown, off the shoulder long sleeve top, you look really great in it but I agree it’s a bit impractical. Another thing, you have really inspired me to do 3 things: deep clean and organise my room,
Throw out the clothes I don’t wear ,and study more for longer periods. Thankyou ,Thankyou so much❤️❤️❤️❤️

Would absolutely love to see a video about u manifesting the new pieces to fill the gaps that u want in ur wardrobe. Just think it’d be interesting to carry on seeing u develop your personal style and show how you’d shop for them e.g charity shopping vs more expensive sustainable shops. Lovely video!! Really impressed with how much u got rid of

You never stop Decluttering. It's just part of the process. Don't feel bad about it! Of course it's still important that you learn not to bring the wrong stuff into your life in the first place, but in the meanwhile, don't beat yourself up about it too much.
