We are getting ready to start worms on our farm! Bath tub idea is amazing! Really can't wait to get going and start to get all the benefits they have to offer! Appreciate the info on the type of worms you are using we are looking at a few different types currently so this helps!
Great to stumble upon you guys, I've no idea how I haven't up until now - subbed. Was particularly interested in chicken composting set ups as we're looking to get into that next year. Thanks
Hi! We found you guys a couple weeks ago as were researching wood chippers - we ended up going for the model you guys have, arriving soon! Thanks for watching and reaching out. Cheers, JAMES.
I’m a new subscriber, I love your video , and just recently found out my ancestry goes back to Scotland not England, I live in the United States of America, in the State of Georgia, I am gonna try your worm method, I have five chickens now, I look forward to more videos , love it! God bless!❤
I have a lovely worm farm in a storage bin in my bedroom, of all places! No smell at all. They compost our kitchen scraps and feed my koi and my chickens, as well as my garden. :-)
Thank-you so much for this video! I have just started with my worm farm and chickens. And I was trying to figure out what to do next. Not having to re-invent the wheel does help! I subscribed.
Just found your channel and binge watched the lot! You guys should be very proud of what you have achieved. What a fantastic project. I love the integration of your animals with silvapasture and the market garden. Have a blank canvas of 5 acres that i.m starting to design so it's great to be inspired by u guys. Subbed.
Hi there! Yay, thanks for the binge!! Thank you so much for the kind words. How exciting to have a blank canvas, means you can really plan and design. Best of luck with it all.
I have just started watching your channel, WOW , so much amazing content, I am learning so much! Thanks for putting the effort in, and all the detailed explanations really help me. I am starting a new garden here in New Zealand ( in the middle of a lockdown) and this was just the inspiration I needed. THANK YOU
I didnt realise you were in Aberdeenshire,we were in Alford for a year but had to move when we lost a very precious familly member. We are now in wigtownshire, planning on moving to a smallholding with 20 acres. That should keep us busy😂😂😂. Anyway,i liked and suscribed, will definitly keep an eye on your adventures 😀👋🏻
We had a few of those old tubs sitting around. We refinished them, sold them, and had enough money to buy large containers and still put several hundred in the bank. Just a thought...
I can't have my chickens outside for now. So I bring buckets full of weeds into the coup. Once they've kicked them all around and ate what they wanted I rake the soiled ones back up and bring them to the compost bin.
Great setup you got going guys! Just a quick question: why do you use the plastic tarp in the tubs? I'd be afraid of having microplastics in the worm juice tbh
great video. I live in the northeast US. do you think it will be to cold in the winter to use this setup outside? it get's below zero here. I have access to a tub, trampoline and blocks so if it's ok I'm ready to go. thank you.
@@TapoNothFarm thanks for getting back to me. ya, I as planning on wrapping it with foam insulation, including the top. plus, I'll be feeding them coffee grinds which should create a little heat as they decompose. keep the great videos coming. :-)
I do worm beds in N Idaho with -25 degrees F minimum. After several years of experimenting, I put them on the ground because they are easier to insulate and have the earth for heat, too. With 3 layers of sheet plastic and hay between them. When I start my tomatoes on Ground Hog day, the worms are thriving on the top of the pile eating the thick layer of veggies that I put there in October/ Nov which i am now collecting from out back the local grocery store. I layer the piles as I go, old hay, veggies/ weeds, coffee grounds (in which the perking process takes out most of the acid making them a worm aphrodisiac), old manure so it doesn't get hot, forest soil for the sand and microorganisms, and a bunch of worms from a pile from last year or early this year. I have 6 piles going for the year in mostly shade, a couple with weeds with seeds that only go in trenches or in fruit tree holes so they don't sprout. Watering is vital as is new greens throughout the summer.
Hi there, the opening track is mine (James). It’s called Brother’s Clothes and I recorded it as a demo under the name Silver Arches. It should be on soundcloud :)
Now and again we'll get rats around the poultry, though mostly the ducks actually where we don't even make compost. It's just one of those things. Thanks so much for watching!
This is a great system. Kudos! I love your worm farms. Have seen Edible Acres' chicken compost videos? If you are unfamiliar with them, please consider perusing their playlists and video titles. This is a link to their chicken compost playlist: th-cam.com/play/PLihFHKqj6Jeog3qoYlmhOPt_eElEhNMpH.html I am sharing their playlist with you because I am in awe of their system, and love to spread Permaculture ideas. They are a homestead and plant nursery in Trumansburg, New York, generating more compost than they know what to do with. They use the composting material to keep their hens warm and fed in the winter. They seem to be master Permaculture practitioners, yet do everything on a shoestring budget. They are constantly refining their homestead. I think you may have a great deal in common with them, even though they are not a farm per se.

Many thanks! Best wishes for your smallholding!
No matter how glamorous city life looks, it ends up being totally depressing and anxiety inducing. Country girl, farmer's daughter all the way.
We had a few of those old tubs sitting around. We refinished them, sold them, and had enough money to buy large containers and still put several hundred in the bank. Just a thought...

new subscriber here
Thank you!
Great setup you got going guys! Just a quick question: why do you use the plastic tarp in the tubs? I'd be afraid of having microplastics in the worm juice tbh
I don't use gravel, I tilt the tub slightly so the liquid runs to the plug hole, a bit of shade cloth to filter out worms from plug hole
Do you guys have a video showing off your tractor thing? I'm intrigued.
Hi there - no, not a stand alone video, but it features throughout most of our vlogs. We hope to make a dedicated video sometime. Thanks!
What is that machine called that pulls your wagon of compost? Does it hook onto other implements too? Thank you for your great videos!
It's a two wheeled tractor made by BCS and it takes many implements. Thanks for watching!

Sorry for the slow reply! You'll just need to make sure the tub is well insulated for the winter as you don't want the worms to freeze!

What is that tractor you are using? What is that trailer called? I LOVE the dual purpose combo!
It's a great wee (two wheel) tractor, BCS 740. Trailer, can't remember the company, but BCS also make one for their tractors.
What type of tractor it is that you all are using? It seems perfect for a small plot of land
Hi there - yes it's great for our scale. It's a two wheel or walk behind tractor, made by BCS, the 740 model.
A link to the opening music please. Trying to find the artist but I can't.

‘And’ you used tommy Emmanuel ♥️
Do you have any problems with rats? This is one of my concerns with keeping poultry and making compost from food scraps. Love the channel by the way!
Now and again we'll get rats around the poultry, though mostly the ducks actually where we don't even make compost. It's just one of those things. Thanks so much for watching!
just compost the rats :)
please open a lbry channel. Better than You Tube. Decentralised, no adds and crypto tips
This is a great system. Kudos! I love your worm farms.

You need a small 4 wheel drive tractor with a front end loader...
We'll have to wait for a fairy godmother to magic that one up for us!
@@TapoNothFarm well I hope she shows up soon for you!!!! Just found you...And I am enjoying your adventure...from Canada....
@@jimmason1072 Cheers Jim, fingers crossed ;) Thanks for finding us!
Im cringing so hard at her using a shovel to scoop those worms out. You should use a pitch fork
Thanks for your concern.
need to migrate the worms to one end of the tub before harvesting castings
эх бля вот бы мне такую чику с косичками
