James Doohan was a hero in more ways than one. There is an interview he tells the story He recieved a suicide note from a fan. He went out of his way to find her and told her he was going to be at a convention and he wanted to see her there. She came and they talked. She would come to see him at subsequent conventions well she stopped he wonddered about her one day at a convention she showed up to tell him she got her engineering degree because of him.
"Suddenly, from one day to the other...nothing. And i realized, in all that time, i never got her address. .... 8 years later! She came back and told me, that she had made her engineering degree. This is, the best thing i have ever done and it brings joy to my life" How many people, made their engineering degree or their master in mechanics, because of him. How many people did his duty in the war save and how many people called him a role modell ... and yet, thats his proudest moment... such a humble man.
This is definitely one of the best crossover episodes we’ve ever gotten. Seeing Scotty return was so heartwarming to see. This episode was more than just fan service, it had a message on the importance of making our elders feel useful again regardless of how the times change.
Lt. James Montgomery Doohan of the Canadian 3rd Infantry Division saw combat on D-Day, 6 June 1944, landing in the second wave on Juno Beach at Normandy. (See the opening 40 minutes of _Saving Private Ryan_ for context on that epic battle.) After shooting two snipers, he led his men to higher ground, through a field of anti-tank mines, where they took up defensive positions for the evening. While Doohan was crossing between command posts at 2330 that night, a nervous Canadian sentry hit Doohan with 6 rounds of 'friendly fire', 4 in the leg, 1 in the chest (stopped by a silver cigarette case given to him by his brother) and 1 through his right middle finger, which was later amputated. You can see that his finger is missing if you look closely, in the 'old Enterprise scene' (9:14). Doohan concealed the missing finger during his acting career, through curling his fingers, camera angles, and sometimes with a flesh-toned glove and prosthetic finger. The man was a bad a$$, and a hero. RIP Scottie!
As a lieutenant in the Royal Canadian Artillery, he was threatened with court martial for real for saying "No sir, I will not," to a visiting colonel when he realized a training exercise order would entail blowing the heads off some of his own men. Fortunately, his immediate superiors backed him up and, like his fictional character, he was eventually promoted to captain.
One of the great things about modern reactions is that the reactors don’t see the “On the next episode..” ads and trailers, so things like Scotty showing up are a complete surprise.
Agreed. People who make trailers have zero respect for surprise. When you see something like Avengers Infinity War or Endgame the ad campaign is a relief because they didn't make any trailers with actual spoilers. Endgame didn't even use anything past the first fifteen minutes of the movie. It's incredibly rare, like the original Alien had a perfect trailer. Creeped you out and told you nothing.
I disagree, they're not getting the authentic experience of what it was like to watch first run. And it wasn't a spoiler, it was simply revealed in the trailer with the intention to build excitement for the full episode. If something is revealed before the opening titles, it wasn't meant to be a secret. And you'll get the same surprise seeing Scotty in the trailer as you would watching the first five minutes of the episode. "Scotty's in this!" I actually think a reaction show could set itself apart by actually showing the "next week" trailer at the end, just like we experienced it, it would give them something else to react to.
Yep, completely agree. We didn't see those in the UK either and I feel like I got the experience the _writers_ intended (obviously _they_ don't want it spoiled by trailers etc. - the people that make trailers often have nothing to do with the show/movie itself and are often more concerned with sales/marketing than with your experience of the story). (as further evidence, Scotty is revealed in the cold open i.e. _before_ the credits, where his name would've appeared as a guest star and spoiled the surprise for fans. To pull off a similar surprise - but later in the episode - on Buffy the actor had to waive their rights - which they gladly did - and production had to specifically negotiate with the actors' union etc. to _not_ have their name appear in the opening credits)
They used a cake-piece shaped real set (like 1/5 of the bridge) and filled the rest with shots from the one episode of TOS that had the bridge empty. Sadly they didn't build the whole bridge. But still.... :D
The character of Scotty partially inspired me to become a Mechanical Engineer. Interestingly enough, for the last 25 years I've been working on aircraft engine nacelles. So, the statement about being a Captain by rank, but really only wanting to be an Engineer, hit very well with me. 🥰
This episode always gets me choked up a bit. Reasons: 1) I love Scotty. 2) James Doohan was a great man, hero AND Canadian (as am I). 3) He's alone. 4) when he leaves in the shuttle at the end it reminds me that his ashes were launched into space after he died.
Modern Star Trek writers, take heed: this is an example of what we call "fan service done right." You bring back a familiar character for one episode a season and use them to tell a new story. You don't just cram as many references/characters into an rehashed plot as you can, just for the sake of reminding people of things they've already seen
Exactly. Kudos to Ron Moore for making this about Scotty as a character (right down to how 'relevant' Scotty would be viewed by the TNG crew) and telling a good story in the process, rather than making it purely dumb "Scotty comes aboard the 1701-D and saves the day" fan service.
Seeing Scotty on an episode of Next Gen was wonderful, but especially so was to see him have a moment on a recreation of the original bridge. Fantastic episode!
I love that Jen is familiar with many of the astronomical events enough to be able to talk about the theories they discuss on this show. My favorite off the cuff science remark is still the Omuamuah comment when she was watching star trek IV. Science officer Murray on the job. 🖖
@@flerbus That's one thing I didn't like about Realm of Fear. I also felt that the individual being sent through the transporter beam would be suspended at the moment of transport and feel as if no time had passed upon rematerialisation.

Always a wonderful time getting to see you enjoy Star Trek, and I'm so happy and grateful no one ruined this surprise for you, well done to everyone out there.
"Commercial break." That's first time I've seen that announced with a sad face. And I agree that a lot of this episode did feel sad. I kept worrying about Scotty being lonely in a world that had moved on, and where all of his friends and family were gone.
No question that Scotty inspired so many people. One of James Doohan's favorite stories was of when he was on a special tour of the Kennedy Space Centre. They wanted to show him inside the Vehicle Assembly Building, but the space shuttle Atlantis was there, being prepared for a classified mission. So, special permission was required from the officer in charge. When told, the USAF general's reaction was, basically, - "SCOTTY is out there????? Don't keep him waiting, show him in!..."
I saw a video a few months ago about James Doohan's correspondence with a fan who sent him what appeared to be a suicide letter. Doohan reached out to her, encouraged her to meet with him at a convention in Indianapolis. Long story short, he could tell she wasn't well, was not receiving the right type of counseling and even though he wasn't trained as a therapist, he continued to meet with her over the next 2-3 years offering her encouragement and I suppose just supporting her as best he could. He lost contact with her, heard nothing from her for 8 yrs, then finally received mail from thanking him for his support; she also proudly stated she achieved her Master's degree in Electrical Engineering. Mr. Doohan became very emotional at the end of the video and claimed what he did for this woman was the best thing he ever did in his life. Considering what he achieved in the entertainment industry, that's quite a statement. RIP James "Scotty" Doohan a wonderful actor and a great, caring person.
Surely you mean the other way around. This can't have been much long after The Undiscovered Country and relations with the Klingons were slowly on the up at that time period. When a man has spent his entire career fighting Klingons only to discover one is a member of Starfleet must be quite jarring. Look at O'Brien's attitude towards Cardassians to get how Scotty feels.

Michael Dorn was actually the biggest TOS fan among the cast. Some of the other actors were barely aware of Star Trek when cast in their roles.
My point was that Scotty's character would not be as accepting of a Klingon than Worf not accepting a human. A shame for Dorn that they didn't have more scenes together, but I guess they only got Jimmy for a short amount of time and wanted to build on the engineer relationship more than anything. I could probably write a thousand pages of a script with all these future characters' fanboy/girling over Scotty but they only had 40-odd minutes.
Fun fact. The ceiling lights used in the next generation's transporter pad are the same lights used on the floor of the original series transporter pads. So there's a little bit of the original enterprise in the new one.
I've been waiting for you to get to this one! The part that hits me the most is Scotty and Picard on the 1701 bridge. He's a man out of time. Out of his own time, and out of time in general. And what he said about never loving like that first time, that first ship, "old girlfriends we'll never meet again", too old to fall in love again, etc. - that sounded so sad and self-pity-like when I was 20. I was like "sure you can fall in love again! Don't give up!" Now, at 52, that whole scene hits a Whole Lot Differently. I understand every nuance of it deep in my gut, and I have to tip my hat to James Doohan, who was playing all of us in that scene.
I was also wondering if Scotty was going to sense the passage of time in the transporter as Barkley did. And I agree, the end of this episode was bittersweet. It was great watching this with you! Thanks Jen!
Hi Jen, From a 64 year old Proud Star Trek Nerd. I LOVE your reactions. This is one of my FAV episodes Scotty has always been one of, if not my favorite characters. It was sad to see him missing 'The gang' but good to see him working with Geordi and the crew, so cool. Glad to see you are enjoying the ride. As I have said before, you are the perfect Star Trek Chick. Much Love.😘😘🥰
@alberttaylor2754 i love the character of Scotty as well , sadly most of the ''Gang '' have already passed away so now it adds another level of pathos to that scene . Yes grew up with the series and it was a treat to see him work with the Geordi and Data and to think now TNG is now also considered the old crew !! Cheers.
Every single time I'm amazed how much Star Trek is able to move me. This episode will always have a special place in my heart ❤. Just as you said, Jen, it felt sad to see Scotty so out of place at first. The scene on the bridge of the old Enterprise on the Holodeck was emotional and wonderful at the same time. Thanks for another great reaction, Jen! 😁🖖
When I am looking down the list of my TH-cam reactors to watch, there is a screening process. If they are reacting to something I haven't seen, I skip it. If they are reacting to something I've seen but thought it was 'meh', I'll note it's there but keep looking. There are some movies and TV shows that I will stop and watch right away. Some reactors get higher on that 'must watch' list than others. Jen watching 'Relics' was a "Stop everything! Watch this now!" And you delivered! Thanks.
The feels of this episode are even greater with the context. James Doohan had a stroke midway through filming and the rest of the cast and crew rallied to help him, even bringing in cue cards since his stroke gave him memorization issues.
When Scotty was getting on the shuttle I could hear him quoting Bilbo, “I think I'm quite ready for another adventure!” and kicked off a new spin off series.
There were actually rumors around the time that Deep Space nine was announced that James Doohan was going to be a regular on the series. The rumors persisted until the cast was actually announced.
Mr. Scott was a huge influence on my decision to join the US Navy in 1979 and become an Electronics Technician. After getting out in 1985 I started a 39 year career working as a telecom network engineer. As Scotty says I never wanted to be anything else but an Engineer!
I felt the episode in the end was uplifting, making the point that everyone (and seniors in particular) can find a purpose - even when circumstances or time put them out of their element.
And @ 7:54. Another tear jerking moment for me and my dear old Dad from this episode. Dad really didn't care for TNG. He was a BIG fan of TOS though and EVERY Saturday everything at our house stopped at noon so we could watch Star Trek on CBC. We watched every TOS episode (except one) at least ten times growing up. But this episode, "Relics"... made him a bit of a low-key fan of TNG. How could it not ?...
I always felt they treated Scotty terribly, even at the end. It's supposed to be nice that they give him that shuttle BUT he was on his way to the bar when they grab him to take him to the shuttle. Once there they have everyone there for a big goodbye and then it sure feels like they are expecting him to leave. He was going to Ten Forward! He was going about his day and then they're like, "Goodbye! See ya! Don't forget to write!" But my stuff is still in my room... "Packed and in the shuttle. Goodbye! Adios! See ya later..."
Fantastic I've been looking forward to this reaction. I knew Jen would be shocked and very happy to see good old Scotty. Its sad that Scotty felt useless. He's the best.
I had the honor of being his assistant at a SciFi con for a weekend. Pick him up at airport, got him to events, took him to diner, and back to hotel and was his shadow and took him back to the airport at the end of the con. He was a great gentleman and a fantasic guest for the con. Also, a warm a caring person. We miss ya Jimmy
This is one of favorite episodes of TNG. First, the idea of a Dyson sphere blew my mind as kid. Second, seeing Scotty show up later totally exploded my mind. Thank you for doing this reaction. 👍
The bridge set used in the holodeck was a set owned by a fan, and the set was only a small portion of the entire bridge. The opening shot when Scott enters is a looped frame from the original series, the only frame of the bridge empty.
James Doohan was born in Vancouver but his family moved to Sarnia, Ontario where he went to school. After being in the military, he moved to London, Ontario and then to Toronto to study at the Lorne Greene (Bonanza, Battlestar Galactica) Academy
Relics is my favorite episode of all of TNG. My nickname in my teens and in the Army was Scotty because I spent so much time reading tech manuals in the barracks.
A real iconic episode. Bittersweet at times. Always liked Scotty... and what real life hero James Doohan was as well. And his Scotty character was the source of so many spoofs in movies (e.g. Ace Ventura, Loaded Weapon 1...)
this is one of my favorite TNG episodes. it's a comfort episode for sure. there's some timeline issues with dialog, but I love the dynamic between uptight by the book Geordi and the 'miracle worker' Scotty.
The direction that Scotty entered the classic Enterprise Bridge is the same way that I first walked onto the bridge, it brought back the awe I felt when I first saw it. The first station I went to was the Engineering section, I got a photo of me setting there in a classic Scotty pose. I also got to sit at the Science station, the Helm and the Captain's chair, it was surreal being there.
Hey Jen: fun trek facts: the novelization of this episode included some of the crew beaming down (or i guess you could say up lol!!!) to the interior serface of the sphere while trapped inside and found everything including cites were abandoned. Also troi visted scotty in his quarters just before he went to ten forward which is a deleted scene. Thats why he seemed to know troi at the end.
1:40 That sound, every time I've heard it from the first viewing to this one, always puts a huge smile on my face. It's nice to know that Scotty was enjoying his retirement on Norpin V.
*Jen… You have no idea how HARD it was to not spoil this appearance after the appearance of Spock earlier in the show: But there it is! Scott, Spock and Bones each had a chance to meet the TNG crew on the show!* 👍👍👍
It was nice hearing the TOS transporter sound and materialization effect in TNG, definite nostalgia feels for us old Trek fans at the time… Also, as a computer repair tech myself, let me just say that the ‘Scotty Technique’ is a well regarded and well loved technique that all good techs practice… You NEVER tell the Captain (or customer) how long repairs will *REALLY* take, you ALWAYS work in a safety buffer zone… Also, hearing Scotty say “laddie, as one engineer to another, I *CAN* do this!” Always seemed rather surreal…
I must admit, I teared up more than a couple of times when first watching this when it originally aired. Scottie had always been my favorite and to see him appear in the transporter, and then walking into the halo-deck and the bridge of the Enterprise was such a great touch. In the original Star Trek, Scottie was not an actual officer but Chief Engineer, which would have been like a Warrant Officer, but then having him as a Captain showed how much he was respected.
7:20 I love the fact that Data, essentially a walking talking supercomputer, makes multiple attempts to figure out what the drink is and can only answer "It's... green?"
I've been looking forward to seeing your reaction to this one. I remember my joy and incredulity watching this three decades ago! I think I may have got something in my eye too.
@ 1:51 was legitimately one of the absolute BEST moments from Star Trek TNG without a doubt ! I had practically the exact same reaction as you Jen... well... maybe actually a few tears of joy TBH.
I absolutely love this episode -- one of the best of TNG. The TOS movies managed to turn Scotty into comic relief, and such a bad-ass character deserved a much better and more respectful send-off. This episode nailed that 100%. The scene on the holodeck was an emotional gut-punch to true Star Trek fans. And the episode ends with Scotty simply saying "Aye." 10/10
This is one of my absolute favorite episodes I've always had a passion for mega structures, this is a solid Dyson sphere, there is also the mesh type and the non contacting Dyson swarm. Love your reactions to Star Trek.❤
Joy and excitement overload from watching your reaction to this one. There's so much goodness packed into this episode. Thanks for another great review Jen!
Dangit, forgot the episode order and thought this was next week, otherwise I might've changed plans :). A fan favourite for a reason. And a Dyson sphere ! Between this and "Babylon 5"'s O'Neill cylinder a couple of years later we early 90s sci-fi fans thought we'd died and gone to heaven. (in retrospect, this needed someone like Boimler or Rutherford who would've absolutely gushed over Scotty)
I've been waiting for this reaction since 'Unification'; really enjoyed the interaction between Picard and Mr. Scott, plus Mr. Doohan's reaction to seeing the Connie's bridge was real.
The scene where Data describes the brandy as being green is a call back to the original Star Trek episode "By Any Other Name" where Scotty said the same thing while trying to out drink an alien.
James Doohan as 'Scotty'🤩OH how long I've been waiting for this Episode: the last member of the OG Trekkie's to ever appear on TNG!💝Wait, did I say "the last member"🤔I could have sworn that there was one more...🤫
I'm so glad you reached this episode Jen. I was wondering what your reaction would be at seeing Scotty. This episode was great, and so was your reaction 😊
3:24 Here you can see James Doohan is reading from a cue card as he walks along with Levar, but it makes complete sense. Although there was the occasional techno-babble in TOS, it was a fraction of what we hear on TNG and even at this time James was in his seventies. This is a great episode and "Relics" is a perfect name for it, too.
Geordie says to Scotty "Wait until you see the holodeck", like he had never seen one before, but there is actually an episode of Star Trek the Animated Series (from the mid-seventies) where the original crew uses a holographic room (called the "Recreation Room") on the original Enterprise! The episode was called "The Practical Joker".

"Suddenly, from one day to the other...nothing. And i realized, in all that time, i never got her address. .... 8 years later! She came back and told me, that she had made her engineering degree. This is, the best thing i have ever done and it brings joy to my life"
How many people, made their engineering degree or their master in mechanics, because of him. How many people did his duty in the war save and how many people called him a role modell ... and yet, thats his proudest moment... such a humble man.
What a wonderful & heartwarming story.

Here is the story from his own words.
He was the man you think he was. The real f&cking thing.
You are the absolutely right person to watch and appreciate this episode. Thank you. You’re a wonderful reactor.
One of the great things about modern reactions is that the reactors don’t see the “On the next episode..” ads and trailers, so things like Scotty showing up are a complete surprise.
We never had those in our country, so I feel very lucky to have experienced this unspoiled as well.
If it's a show I know I'm going to watch, I make every effort to skip those completely.
"Scotty's in this!"
I actually think a reaction show could set itself apart by actually showing the "next week" trailer at the end, just like we experienced it, it would give them something else to react to.
Imagine being the crew that gets to build the set of the Enterprise "no bloody A, B, C or D" for this episode.
They used a cake-piece shaped real set (like 1/5 of the bridge) and filled the rest with shots from the one episode of TOS that had the bridge empty. Sadly they didn't build the whole bridge. But still.... :D
Lol. Aye.
Parts of the set were replicas rented from fans for this episode.
@@miller-joel in particular the Captain's Chair was a 1 for 1 replica from a fan who built them for conventions
The character of Scotty partially inspired me to become a Mechanical Engineer. Interestingly enough, for the last 25 years I've been working on aircraft engine nacelles. So, the statement about being a Captain by rank, but really only wanting to be an Engineer, hit very well with me. 🥰
That is a great personal tale. Thank you!
Me too! I went into communications engineering in the Army, all because of Scotty.
Engineering degree here too. I was fortunate enough to thank him for it over a beer in 2001.
Would not work the same with modern Star Trek: TNG can stand on its own, with Nu Trek we would hope that the new characters go away.
I wish someone had told them that before they made Picard season 3...
@@greyinvader Or one or two!
I'm impressed she knew what a Dyson sphere was. Well done
"Bless you, Scotty."

Which is kinda funny, cause it was Spock who got the mains back online...
@mallninja9805
I know, but that's one of my favorite quotes.
A bittersweet story about a legend who outlived his time, but came to realize he wasn't as obsolete as he thought.
Perfect summary !
It's great to have a Star Trek reactor that actually likes Trek and isn't there to troll the fans.
Thank you.
So impressed that Jen knows what a Dyson sphere is!
I always thought it was a vacuum cleaner with a ball instead of wheels.
and that the popular theory is indeed more of a network of modules or a web surrounding a star rather than a solid sphere
@@flerbus That's one thing I didn't like about Realm of Fear. I also felt that the individual being sent through the transporter beam would be suspended at the moment of transport and feel as if no time had passed upon rematerialisation.
@@flerbus The transporter makes a "snap shot" before deconstructing an item, and temporarily saves it to the clip board. Like a snap shot, the image is frozen in time.

so glad no-one spoiled this one for lady Jen , her surprise is always a joy to behold , the awesome gobsmacked thumbnail says it all 🔥. seeing a character from TOS is always going to be a fun time 🖖 check out Jen's TOS reactions if you havnt , they are Vulcan jentastic . meanwhile . warp speed into another next Jen Sunday episode make it so 🔥💙🔥💙
1:54 LOL Jen: (Gasp) Is that Scotty??? (fades to black) Wait!! Go Back!!
The chain in Scotty's holodeck of the original Enterprise is the actual chair from the 60's. The borrowed it from a collector that owned it.
I just loved the look Worf gave Scotty at the end.
They could have told him that he was orphaned by Romulans and raised by humans
@ Yeah. I get you. I was referring to the irony.
James D was 72 in this episode. LeVar turns 68 this month (Feb. '25). Whew... wow.
Now I feel old…
Fun fact. The ceiling lights used in the next generation's transporter pad are the same lights used on the floor of the original series transporter pads. So there's a little bit of the original enterprise in the new one.
That might be the origin of each Enterprise has a component of the previous ship that was mentioned on Strange New Worlds.
Thanks Jen!
Thank you!
Hi Jen,
From a 64 year old Proud Star Trek Nerd.
Yes grew up with the series and it was a treat to see him work with the Geordi and Data
and to think now TNG is now also considered the old crew !!
Cheers.
A while ago, you asked how long could someone stay in a transporter beam, and I just quietly thought, "Oh, you'll find out".
The TNG crew knew all about the original characters because they watched all the shows. That’s why the joined Star Fleet to begin with. Big fans. ❤
I've read Doohan thought he would be doing the holodeck bridge on a green screen and his reaction that they rebuilt the set for real was for real.
I always saw this episode as a passing of the torch from Scotty to Geordie
Great episode always love seeing the OG cast pop up on trek ,scotty saves the day and laforge learns some humility.
Thank you! 🖖
Always enjoy reactors seeing this episode and the looks on their faces when Scotty materializes. You did not disappoint Jen. Great reaction.
To quote Gene Kranz, from Apollo 13, "I don't care what anything was designed to do. I care about what it can do."
Classic episode, the perfect way to bring back Scotty, using his engineering genius to rig the transporter! Chef's kiss! 😃
This is one of my top favorite episodes of TNG.
"NO bloody a, b, c OR D!" 😄 good ol' SCOTTY! 😁 really enjoyed your reaction 👍☺
What a wonderful, heartfelt and appreciative reaction! Well done Jen!!
Fantastic
I've been looking forward to this reaction.
I knew Jen would be shocked and very happy to see good old Scotty. Its sad that Scotty felt useless. He's the best.
I’ll never miss Star Trek Sundays cause no one does them better than Jen 🔥🖖
I'll second that!
My best friend growing up, his brother is in an episode of this season. He is a Ten Forward waiter in the Relics episode
Jen, to see your reaction when Scotty beamed up was magic!
*Raises glass in an empty original Enterprise bridge*
"Here's to ya, Lads."
Gets me every [bleep]ing time!
The bridge set used in the holodeck was a set owned by a fan, and the set was only a small portion of the entire bridge. The opening shot when Scott enters is a looped frame from the original series, the only frame of the bridge empty.
Sunday TNG with Jen is awesome!
I knew you would like this one!
Commercial break!!
James Doohan was born in Vancouver but his family moved to Sarnia, Ontario where he went to school. After being in the military, he moved to London, Ontario and then to Toronto to study at the Lorne Greene (Bonanza, Battlestar Galactica) Academy
This episode resonates the older you get
Relics is my favorite episode of all of TNG.
But the loaded Weapon one is pure gold. He went for it and was like "Sure why not"
this is one of my favorite TNG episodes. it's a comfort episode for sure. there's some timeline issues with dialog, but I love the dynamic between uptight by the book Geordi and the 'miracle worker' Scotty.
Scott, Spock and Bones each had a chance to meet the TNG crew on the show!* 👍👍👍
It was nice hearing the TOS transporter sound and materialization effect in TNG, definite nostalgia feels for us old Trek fans at the time…
Also, as a computer repair tech myself, let me just say that the ‘Scotty Technique’ is a well regarded and well loved technique that all good techs practice…
You NEVER tell the Captain (or customer) how long repairs will *REALLY* take, you ALWAYS work in a safety buffer zone…
Also, hearing Scotty say “laddie, as one engineer to another, I *CAN* do this!” Always seemed rather surreal…
I met Mr. Doohan at a convention back in the 90s. He is much like his character Scotty. A gentleman and he loved the ladies. A great man.
That look he gave worf was priceless
Joy and excitement overload from watching your reaction to this one. There's so much goodness packed into this episode. Thanks for another great review Jen!
Dangit, forgot the episode order and thought this was next week, otherwise I might've changed plans :). A fan favourite for a reason. And a Dyson sphere ! Between this and "Babylon 5"'s O'Neill cylinder a couple of years later we early 90s sci-fi fans thought we'd died and gone to heaven.
(in retrospect, this needed someone like Boimler or Rutherford who would've absolutely gushed over Scotty)
Data's line "It is green" is a callback to a TOS episode "By Another Name", where Scotty gets an invading alien drunk, and he uses the same line.
I love this episode, not just for Scotty but for the Dyson sphere. One of my favorite sci-fi concepts and to see one on screen was so cool to me.
I think a lot of people would have loved to talk to Scotty and hear his tales. Just not while they were on duty trying to concentrate on their jobs.
He should've gone to Ten-Forward right away. He'd have found plenty of people to talk to.
Thank you Jen for being a great Trekkie
One of the best lines Scotty 'You didn't really tell him how long it would take did you?' (to do the fix)
1701, no bloody A, B, C, or D! Rip Mr. Scott!🙏🙏
James Doohan as 'Scotty'🤩OH how long I've been waiting for this Episode: the last member of the OG Trekkie's to ever
appear on TNG!💝Wait, did I say "the last member"🤔I could have sworn that there was one more...🤫
I'm so glad you reached this episode Jen.
"It is ... green." Classic Scotty line! LOL
What a reaction..... this one was super fun and spirited.
