You may not have hates to any motorcycle but I hated the interceptor so much for it's shit ergonomics that I fought tooth and nail to get my money back after paying up to book one...and instead bought the street twin...cos land may meet the sky on the horizon but land cannot become the sky just as the interceptor can never become the Triumph Bonnie's!

Interceptor is based on the original Royal Enfield Interceptor not the Boneville.

But the engine they replicated from latest bonnies. New interceptor has oversquare engine with 270 degree crank exactly like Bonnies. Even they made the same whistling engine noise too. So it just has same name as in 1960s, but mechanically it's a triumph replica.

The reason everyone brings RE 650 twins into the conversation is that they think it's the one motorcycle you'll ever need.Let's face it, people are here are damn cheap. They want litre class performance u the price of a splendor.
In India, motorcycle still isn't passion. Look at motorcyclists from other countries, where people actually own tons of different motorcycles in their life before settling down with one or two in their garage.
RE makes cheapest bikes with no big innovation whatsoever and people here just eat it like it's the best.

Triumph is good on all aspects... I feel it's better than Harley Davidson iron 883. Triumph Street Twin can be your everyday motorcycle but it doesn't give that big bike feel. Enough power for city commute and long rides. It's not a head Turner as a big motorcycle but it's smooth and really good.

Hi Strell, need your opinion on my dilemma. I currently own Reborn Classic and a Hayabusa. After buying Busa last year, somehow I am feeling Reborn Classic way too boring. I want to replace Classic with something exciting. Classic does dual duty of city rides and occasional weekend rides to nearby villages for solitude. Sometimes wife accompanies me and she finds Classic conformable. I've shortlisted Interceptor (New) and Street Twin (Used). The budget is 4 to 4.5 lacs. Though, Interceptor looks no brainer, I am do not find it special and feel that I may outgrow it quickly. I am not sure about pillion comfort too. While Street Twin gives Badge satisfaction, I am not sure whether buying 6-7 year old Truimph will be a good idea. I plan to keep bike for 5 to 7 year and won't be changing it quickly. Your insights will be helpful.

Having owned both those bikes at some point, have I come to that conclusion. The rest is up to you. You are of course entitled to your own opinions.

Here's some food for thought buddy, adding a sixth gear, would make little to no sense/add benefit for this motorcycle. . . Torquey engine, available at a low RPM means not a lot of gear changes in city and combined that with a tall 5th gear for an effortless highway cruising = fantastic overall package. . .

@@radarroi27 no problem for a Street twin fanboy. Even they are ready to be clowny idiots (not meant for you bruh) to support the 5gear config in the street twin no matter what happens saying it has lots f torque, so No need of a 6th gear. Lmao.
Then why the heck a triumph speedtwin with even more torque [112nm. Street has ONLY 80nm] has a 6th gear. !??!! A 4gear config would be enuff for the speedtwin with Train like torque in it? No?

Atleast pls ride a 900 twin from triumph and learn about "gear ratios" just before you simply comment. at same speed, street twin engine runs at lower rpms 5th gear compared to 6th gear in interceptor. when the engine is much torquey, gears can be made taller. so a proper torquey engine even with taller 4 gear will be better to ride than same torque engine with a shorter 6 speed (on highways).
if you ask why T120 has 6th gear, first of all these are bikes not made by keeping indian roads in mind. 900 is made as a city bike considering developed country road conditions. so 5 gear is quite sufficient. they made T120 with more torque for their highway cruising (their motorway speeds). So 6th cog keep the rpm lowerat that speeds. since 1200 has higher torque, 6th will be easily pull from the cruising speeds. I rode a bobber 1200, you cannot use 6th gear below 120kmph without lugging. these two engines are made for a purpose considering different scenarios.
I own this bike, i can easily cruise at 120kmph at just 3900rpm in 5th gear (peak torque rpm), and that too with lots and lots grunt in reserve for super quick overtaking at that speed. you judge things on counting import duties doesnt have any logic.

@@harisankar5194 I didn't compare the interceptor with the street twin even once. 1st thing.
Secondly, for the hefty price (developing markets really buy a bike for 12lacs and five gears? Really? In my city I saw few bobbers, never seen a Street twin tho) triumph easily could get the customer a 6th gear for a better value proposition while he is paying already sooo much.
If I can pay 12 lac for a bike, I absolutely can pay 13lacs for a bike in one breath. Then I would obviously buy the street scrambler for ONLY 1.5lacs extra. In that scenario, street twin or the t100 makes very little sense as an attractive purchase for atleast the developing markets.

@@bel19119082008 hope you know street twin is the highest selling bonnevilles in the world. That sales numbers makes it clear that there is much more on a bike than its price and a gear. If everyone had same thought how you think, all street twin and T100 would have been in the factory itself.

Just test rode a street twin few days back. I have to admit everyone must compare it with the interceptor 650. While the handlebar, grips , levers and footpegs are a bit more chunky just by a millimetre or two in the street twin, the paint, overall finish and build are very similar. Even the speedo console in street twin was a bit loose while that in the re 650 is very solidly bolted.
Performance. Similar top speed. May be 5 kmph more. In an open stretch, steet twin climbs to 100kmph faster by only 0.5 second. That is only noticable in hard acceleration in the race track. In normal traffic I didn't feel it much. But felt it somehow, to be honest, sometimes.
Street twin has low seat height which is a boon for shorter guys. Re 650 is taller.
Handling. Re 650 costs 3 times less than the triumph. But it handles 3 times better , lol. Yes.
650's Skinnier tyre makes it more nimble and just amazingly quicker in turns and lane-changing. Triumph looks sexy with fat rear rubber. But its heavy front end costs the steering geometry. It's so much slower to turn and those fat rear rubber makes it far less agile at the corner. It rolls like a cruiser. Needs prior thinking fr a sharp turn or a quick changing of a lane.
    Sound. Both for stock exhaust..
Triumph is louder. More bass. But a bit monotonous growling.
Re 650. Quieter. Bass gets increased when engine is fully warmed up but still less than Triumph. The 650 Sound has more character and variations. Past 6000rpm sounds like old air cooled Ducati monster. 3000 to 5000 rpm , it has a nice bitchy tone. 2000 to 3200rpm , it has a nice mellow hi res mechanical sound.
    Re 650. 3.6 L appx OTR
Street twin would have been very good for 6.5 L OTR as it has some better components as mentioned earlier as well as few good electronics. But close to 10 L?? Makes no sense.
Ya ofcourse, if money is not a concern, then.....u can even buy a 20hp vintage motorcycle fr 1crore..
But 650 sounds better than the street twin overall albeit the latter is louder and bassier

agree with your most points and pricing but there are some which cannot be comparable related to ride experience. Torque figures of street twin is 80nm @ 3800 rpm when RE interceptor torque is 52nm @5250rpm. This makes actually a huge difference in the in-gear acceleration. peak torque is from just 3800 rpm. thats makes some serious difference in real world ride.
Also Build quality and finish is just incomparable unlike you said. I dont say interceptor is a bad bike. its really good for its price. but triumph is way ahead if you check parts by parts analysis.

@@harisankar5194 for the build the street twin is not great it's good. If u say the Bonneville T100, yes that's with a great build quality. I saw the tank is better in the interceptor but ya, handlebar grips levers and switch gear is better in street twin. Wheels are better in the interceptor. Gearbox is much better in interceptor.

@@harisankar5194 if u say performance, interceptor is slower by less than a second in 0to60mph
52nm torque is alot to pull from 40 to 80 in 5th gear at ease. Only on a longer open stretch I saw the Train Like Pull of the triumph 900cc engine, otherwise, in normal traffic, I could hardly saw much difference.
      The interceptor handles much better.
Street twin is front heavy, slower to turn and much less agile.
Also the fat rear tyre, while looks cooler, makes the street twin slow to change direction.

@@bel19119082008 i didnt say 52nm is bad. but when you compare with something, it matters. I own street twin and rode RE650. torque difference is visible on road. and Yes, may be lighter front end makes RE agile and easy in traffic. but triumph is something different once you get open roads. its not the fatter rear tyre make it bit slow change direction, its front heaviness affect it.

    • @bel19119082008
      @bel19119082008 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@harisankar5194 it's both. Front heaviness and a fatter tyre contribute to that. My friend has installed upsized tyres in his 650 for the cool factor.. It now turns so bad xD. It needs much more lean angle and a lot of effort to steer the same turn. If I live in Germany and Autobahn is my commute triumph wins hands down.
In India, where none safe above 130 to 140kmph, street twin with 2.5 times the price, doesn't justify it. Cheers. Happy rides.
