One thing I do is add trinkets, keepsakes, pictures, we collect rocks and post cards so those usually find a place to be displayed. I use larger rocks as book ends or to top off stacks of books and we have some different models on the shelves. I have a model of a covered wagon and some Oregon trail picture books I display along with collectable map books. The books that I lay flat I'll stack up but leave enough room to put my 3×5 pictures on top. This way I get more room and can use all our built in shelves but also have room for some pictures too. This way display shelves get a few books and book shelves get a few displays. And leaves me room to swap things out especially during holidays and seasons I can decorate all our shelves and books with holiday pictures and decor too. My favorite bookshelf is actually a round dining table I put in tge corner with 2 big chairs on each side and it's home to my favorite books. It's where I keep our leveled pathway readers and Christian light readers. And where I keep books for narrative writing, kids read a short story, poem or speech and do a daily writing exercise in narration on what they read. So I keep books like book of virtues, Harp Laurel Wreath poetry and recitation, some mcguffeys and others. Under the table is a basket for my youngest to pick from and buckets of travel brochures and nature magazines to also use for narrative writing. On the table I have a family box of Thanksgiving. We write notecards all year of things we are thankful for and then dump out the box on Thanksgiving and read them all at the dinner table and we don't sign them so we like to guess who each notecard belongs to. Space works as writing table, reading nook, phonics corner, one on one study space and perfect for my husband and I to sit and play mancala. We play mancala outside usually but if weather is bad we can move inside and play our 2 player game tucked into our cozy corner.
Tamora Pierce is one of my favorite mid grade/ young adult authors! I have the song of the lioness quartet, the immortals quartet and the tricksters duology

Hi! Are these mostly books your daughter reads? And how old is she? I’m 11, and we seem to have similar reading tastes 😉💖
My daughter and I both read them. I admit, I am an adult who LOVES middle grade :)
