    Mx5 is perfect for me was giving the MG30 lots of thought had problems getting one due to unavailability…so pleased l decided on the Headrush it’s like an Ampero on steroids!🙂

    Minor point for some, but a major point for me since I like to run off battery, is that the NUX has a 9 V input so it's easy to run off a battery.

    I bought the MG30 a few days ago and it’s overwhelming for an old guy who rarely uses more than a OD and Wah pedal. I’m learning a lot from your videos and believe I will be happy with it once I figure it out better. If I really like the MG 30 I might buy a Head Rush Prime unit next year if NUX doesn’t put out something comparable

    Loving my MX5. Easier to use than the Boss GT-1000Core. Wish it had a Mac Editor though as the smaller screen is fiddly.

    I'm thinking of selling my Nux mg 30 and buy a Headrush MX5. A little voice in my head is telling me that is not a good idea. I should add 300€ for a tiny improvement: what do you think? Thanks for your videos. They are very helpful

    Hey, thank you for discussing this. I look forward to your next video. I also look forward as to when the MG 30 will be available for purchase. For me as you pointed out, the MX5 has no editor for the PC to make changes. This is a must have. The editor looks great on the MG 30. If the MG 30 has great convincing amp tones, I might get it, have the best of both worlds, the MG 30 and the MX5. Thank you again.

    Good video..
    I'm wanting to get a cheap multi effects or modeler to go direct at small clubs. I don't really need a hundred amps and cabs and 300 effects.. I would only use maybe 4 or 5 different scenes or patches.. Something for clean, edge of break up, crunch and lead and maybe lead with delay and reverb and then maybe from time to time some chorus or flange or phaser for just little parts of songs that I play.. That would be the most.. I do want to use something that has good pitch shifting so I can get those eventide like EVH / Steve Vai sounds though and I never hear anyone talk about the effects and how good they are or if pitch shifting is good, etc.. I understand though. It's impossible to make a video and talk about all the effects.. I would just like to see them listed in the description at times..
    Thanks.. Very cool and very good comparison.. I'm looking hard at the Nux stuff and the MX5.. I kinda want the MX5, but I'm not sure I want to pay that much as I would only use it for gigging maybe 6 or 7 or 8 times a year and at home to practice and record for fun..
    I'm looking at the Nux 30 and the 400.. Being that the latter is much cheaper..
    Thanks again.. I'll check out some more of your videos..
    Be safe and well sir..

    Hello, I read first of all, sorry for my English I am undecided about what to buy, I always use analog systems and it will be the first time that I go digital, There is a lot of difference between the processor of the nux vs mx5 (dual core vs quad core) I would choose the pedalboard that gives me more time of use in the future, taking into account the changes in technology In summary, it will choose which according to your recommendation is the one that would give me more use in the future. Thanks for your help, I appreciate it very much.

    Hi, Thanks for posting this video. I'm new into the electrical guitar world, ( I have been more accoustic) so everything here is kinda new for me. I liked the features of the drums in the NUX G30 but I didnt see that feature in the MX5. What would be the scenario to create the drum in the headrush? I saw you video but actually you uploaded a wav file... What about an external drum pedal or so? Thanks in advance

    • @ThePedalGuy

    Hi. The expression input on the MX5 is it only for expression pedal or can it take a 2 button footswitch. Thanks

    • @ThePedalGuy
      @ThePedalGuy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Exp input is specifically for an expression pedal. If you want more footswitches, I would recommend the Hotone Ampero Control, which operates via MIDI. It works great with the MX5 and I will have a video out soon that shows you how to connect and configure it.

  • @EmirValladares
    @EmirValladares 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    We can use a midi controller to expand the possibility of control more parameters on the MG30 on live situations?

    • @ThePedalGuy
      @ThePedalGuy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes and no. Yes it responds to MIDI, but it requires a "middle man" to trigger the MIDI as the MG30 doesn't have a direct MIDI input.

    great comparison! looking forward to the tone/sound video comparison coming up.
    Key question regarding DSP power for the next video:
    2 vs 4 quadcore processor
    - what is the limitation with nux in real terms? there's only so many effects you can add to the chain...please give examples of what these limitations are in your next video. I think this is a critical part in deciding between these two models along with tone quality

    • @aptfx
      @aptfx 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This is difficult to say. dual vs. quadcore doesn't tell the whole story because 2 faster cores might be better than 4 slow cores in many cases. Disclaimer - I don't know the exact DSP of the MG-30 only that its a NXP RT. I know the DSP from the MX5 and its a quite old ARM chip - which is ok for what it does, but its a bit unfortunate that many believe "quadcore" to be something outright fast. The MX5 is more flexible in the way you can stick together your fx chain and it has a very nice touch UI. If I look at the flexibility it has there and looking at its dsp I really have to wonder how computationally complex the amp modelling of the MX5 actually is. There are certain aspects in amp modeling that are computationally quite expensive - so if a device like this allows for two signal chains with two amps it could just be, that this is possible because the amp modeling is a lot simpler than the competition. This might be the reason why many reviewers find the amps sometimes a bit flat and less dynamic.

      Great reply!
      MX5 has mono send/return unfortunately.
      Another option is the recently released Helix Stomp XL, although its in a much higher price bracket.
      Its against the grain of trend, however I would like to see YT reviewers compare units from different price brackets to highlight the major differences in dynamics and tone. Multi effects pedals (MEPs) are very appealing to me however it comes at a huge cost: distortion! Especially budget MEPs.

    • @ThePedalGuy

    MG 30

  • @aptfx
    @aptfx 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Dual DSP vs. Quad DSP is not necessarily a difference in power. The quad core DSP used in the MX5 is a 6 years old ARM chip used in e.g. tv settop boxes. Another option for MIDI with the MG-30 is an USB midi host box - which enables use of midi controlers without a computer/phone/tablet. The Headrush Amp modelling is also a bit older and IMHO the amp modelling in the MG-30 is significantly more advanced. There are other reviews who actually where a bit underwhelmed by the MX5 amp modeling.

      there is a big difference in power. With headrush you can repeat the effects you want as many times as you want, even use two or four amps at the same time, 2 or 4 Ir of 2048 / 96000hz...it is much more powerful. Headrush amp modeling is better for me, more dynamic, more like a tube amp. have both and they play in different leagues, nux is very good for its price but far from headrush

      I had a FM9- sold it (no loss) because I am waiting until they update the editor e.g., color screen, touch, more user friendly. The tones were there though- now they just have to make it more user friendly like the QC. Even this and the Ampero II have nicer interfaces on the unit. For $1800 shipped I could not live with that. I am hoping this can tie me over until Fractal updates things. It's coming.
