- I got something to tell you that I never thought I would but I believe you really ought to know and that is...I LOVE THIS VIDEO!!! For some reason, it's difficult to find a video of Peter Allen performing one of his most famous songs in its entirety so I wanted to share this one from The Don Lane Show in 1977. This clip is simply beautiful inside and out - so full of simplicity, feeling, and quiet magnitude. I hope you enjoy this performance as much as I do:)
This is only my opinion, but I believe his version is better than all the rest who have covered this song. Maybe it has something to do with the songwriter knowing how a song should sound. "I Honestly Love You" is from Peter's 1974 Continental American album at: • Peter Allen "I Honestl... .

I've listened to his version quite a few times the last week,it's so heartfelt and pure. Since he wrote it ,its projects so much better from him and we feel that from his life journey.

In the last few years, Olivia finally started to sing this live with more passion and energy, so much better/stronger than her recording. Sad, it was in the last few years right b4 her cancer ret'd a 3rd time in Stage 4 Form & she stopped performing w/o any fanfare. Tx Goodness, she's almost 5 years away from that again.
RIP Peter, I'm glad you helped bring / & vice versa, an Aussie icon o America. And I"m glad that as you laughed, this song bought you your beachhouse in CA.
Olivia is so strong and inspirational in all that she has done for cancer research and awareness.

Yes Peter is a great writer and it is his song but no one would have ever heard of the song if Olivia had not found it in a bunch of demos way back in 1974 and recorded it and took it to number one world wide and won grammies for her recording of it. Even Peter said at the time: "Livvy that old thing will never be a hit" Of course they had known each other from their Aussie TV days
The song was offered to Helen Reddy first, but she declined it. Yes, Olivia brought the song into the spotlight.
