I worked for the Wes Farrell Organization from 1972-1974 when Wes purchased the Rascals catalog and chose this track specifically for David. It was one of his best recordings ever!!!

My heart just swells when I hear him. When he died, part of my childhood died. I was just so upset for three days. I kept playing "Cherish" trying to will him better, saying, come on David, you've got this! " but it didn't work. Listening to Cherish right now. I just wanna cry.

I think he got pigeonholed as a teen pop idol and in the process his real talent for music and his great voice got overlooked, which is too bad. He had real talent and a beautiful voice beyond his "pretty" handsome face. But he never got the credit for it. Other teen pop idols like George Michael went through the same thing, a decade or so later in George's case. George was eventually much more aggressive in breaking away from that image. David and George actually met and became friends. George assisted David with his comeback song in the mid 80's "The Last Kiss" which I believe became a hit for David. I'm willing to bet they bonded due to their common experience as "teen idols". But they were both much more talented than that ! Both great singers with beautiful voices who sang with their souls.

All were before my time, but at least Davy Jones and Bowie lived to see their senior years. David Cassidy as well. Elvis and Ricky died in their 40's.
