When using the ATS calipers your brake bios will be changed, since you are upgrading your rear brakes as well you can use the cobra rotors and caliper mounts with 93-2000 Taurus rear calipers which have a 43mm piston. Using the larger piston on the rear along with the 1" master cylinder will make your brakes work the way you want them too!
Agreed! When I was using gt calipers the pedal was pretty hard and was kinda hard to push the pedal. When I swapped to the Taurus calipers, man what a huge difference! I could modulate is he pedal and the car stops on a dime
Good info. Ive heard there were better options for the rear. First Ive heard of the taurus caliper swap. Will have to look into this as well!
Thanks fellas. I'll go this route when doing the rear.
@@HOUSEOFDULA they literally bolt into cobra/gt brackets. Use the same soft line too. But the bigger piston is a huge upgrade
@@kenb1918 Right on!
if you want full contact of the brake pads use 2011-2014 GT standard non brembo rotors 336mm/13.23'' rotors. using cobra 13 inch (330mm) rotors leaves 6mm of unused brake pad. you can still run it and the pads will wear out and both sides will not interference touch.
I havent heard this yet. Great tip!
One of the most detailed video on this subject matter. I steered away from this conversion as others were modifying the SN95 spindles as I didn’t want to do. Thanks again.
Appreciate that man.
Yeah a lot of folks told me no way, they didnt want to drill into their spindles, I was thinking.."huh? no need s&s did all the hard work"
How much is the kit from ss engineering?
Dude for this video alone I had to subscribe you are the first to show what actually has to be done I am doing the same to my 88 notch ssp
Appreciate that man! Ive got content going back 6-7 years and still cranking them out.
Nice swap, debating on mine due to spacing out my welds 2mm more. Nice to finally see the swap. Nice build!
Just did this last night, easy install.
I've got Baer 6 pistons on my other build, the Brembos are literally a 1/4 of the price.
Yeah. CHEAP! These brakes are more than enough and would satisfy the weekend circle track racer.
Your channel is much appreciated my dude I have an 82 convertible in my garage that's been waiting on me to show some love to but I had to get my house bought and paid for so I can really enjoy starting the project. Your channel is very informative and detailed in which it takes away alot of the intimidation of getting started with working on my 🦊 body. I enjoy the time you that you give and keep the videos coming when you get the time. 👍
That is 100% the point of this channel, to get guys out there and just wrench. Its just a car. Awesome and really appreciate the feedback, love hearing this.
Glad to see that someone made a kit to make it an easier install for the fox community. There wasn’t anything like this when we posted the vid of the upgrade a while back. Had to improvise ha. Great informative content.
Yessir S&S makes it way easier
As soon as I'm done porting polishing the gt40's I picked up, Brembos will be my next mod (sn95).
94-95!👈💯😉
I installed these with the same kit in my 04 Cobra and they work really good, Im using Russell's brake lines and Dorman banjo bolts.
what part number?
Did this one 4 years ago. Didn’t work that great on fox . Works feckin great on ford obs trucks though! Thanks
What was your MC bore size, pedal setup and rear caliper bore size? Curious as to why it work well, and what your setup was. The MC size, if using a manual brake pedal vs power assist brake pedal etc all make a difference, this along with front rear bais, and rear caliper bore sizes all play a part in the hydraulics.
Very nice upgrade. I watched a few other videos on this setup and apparently you need to upgrade the rear calipers using from a Ford Taurus? I just did a rear disc conversion from LMR. Will the Cobra calipers with 10.5” rotors work with this setup? I think the piston on the Ford Taurus caliper is a little bit bigger than the Cobras.
So yeah...It's not "needed" per-say but helps with the bias and pedal (and pedal feel ive been told, I still have yet to drive this setup as wel) balance since the Taurus's piston is slightly larger. Otherwise you just have to adjust to try to get more pressure to the rear. I planned on going the Taurus route, but if you already spent the time and money on the rears don't change. Just drive it, get it broken in, send a little more to rear on the proportioning valve and call it a day...test it out see if you like it. Thats what I would so at least.
I have an adjustable proportioning valve so just put more pressure to the rear as needed. Thanks for the help I was just wondering how everything worked with your setup.
@@DarkFoxx88 You bet! I wish I knew, but not certain yet, should work out and stop like a beast
ever thought about crown vic suspension on these f100 if we can get some brembos on them that would be lovely
Looking good Dula, I love the chrome trim on the early Foxbody's. It's period correct in my opinion. I'm happy for you brother!👈💯🔥
Thank you man! I agree, looks good on this car. And will when its white. The chome is still in very good shape.
I installed the ats Brembo calipers on my 85gt. I modified an old baer brake spindle and re drilled ats rotors for my 4 lug set up. The calipers work great and great video.
Good stuff. Would be neat to see a 4 lug 17 pony setup with these calipers.
Regarding your '85 ATS Brembo install, did you upgrade the rear to disc? If so, what other upgrades were needed to make it work (booster, mc, proportioning valve)?
@@riverview2233 I have the 1988 turbocoupe rear disc set up. I never installed a proportioning valve but I did install a 1994 Cobra master cylinder. The braking feels good and on the track.
I have the 17" pony wheels on my car with the ats Brembo, they just fit.
Oh man!! I stand corrected. Right on! and sorry for any misinformation. Good to know.
what spec 17 inch pony wheels are you running, is it the 8 inch front and 9 inch back or 9 inch front and 10 inch back? really need to look into my wheel options before buying
@@Jake.Shimada I am running 9" all the way around with a 275 tires. I had to do a lot of work to get them to fit in the front. If you roll the rear fenders. You can run a 9" or 10" pony rim in the rear. You can run a 8" in the front with stock fenders.

Great vid, very detailed. The rotors are on backwards here though. They grooves should angle upwards towards the pad at they rotate

Cool. I was stinking about doing this to my 88 Stang as of right now still has the original calipers on with Mark 7 rotros ans SN95 rear disc brakes. 94 cobra master and SN95 V6 car booster. My only consern is the 17" wheels i got on it. They are factory Mustang Gt sport package wheels 3 double spoke wheels. 17X8 with p245/45R17 tires. I don't know if they will fit over the Cadillac caliper. May have to go with the cobra calipers instead. i love my wheels.
I understand that completely. All the wheels I want will not fit the brembos, however, oddly enough the FR500's (17x9) off my 86 fit snug with surprisingly a lot of room. Ultimately unless its a track car, the wheels and tire combo make or break a street build.
Nice!! Had my Cadillac calipers for over a year! Going to do mine sometime!
Right on! Yeah I cant wait to get mine re-painted and customized with the egobruise logo.
I would like to know how your fox body performs with the eco boost engine, so please cover that as soon as you can . thanks 👍
I will! Shes still being built, update on it coming soon. Progress has been slow.
Nicely done. that S&S solution is great. Thanks for the video showing us all the key details. Love this new project.
Appreciate it!
Nice kit. I personally used the FTR adapter kit that allows the use of the GT500/BOSS 302 caliper and 14" rotor with SN95 spindles. It requires no grinding or drilling and are literally bolt on. The 14" rotor is a lot beefier than the 13" Cobra rotor which important to me because I plan on open tracking my car one day.
Many people with 13” open track w/o issues, even with the heavier 5.4 4V. 14” FTR kit is good, but requires also a bigger rear and you have more unsprung weight vs 13”, and also you can use the S&S kit with S550 rotors that are a tad bigger and thicker if you want more heat dissipation
@@TheSunChaserUS stock s550 GT rotors?
What do you use that much brake for tho? Doesn't a fox only weigh 2700lbs??
I can’t wait to get mine on now, I using new edge spindles. I used them on the mustang as well they are only just over 1/4” wider per side. Which is really not that big of a difference. The new edge spindle are quite a bit cheaper as well. Great Video keep up the content.
Awesome! Let me know how it goes. Man I think I said 1" per in my video lol for the 96-2004, Im sure that well over exaggerated but it moves em out. 1/4" per seide is not much at all.
I will for sure, I want to do a stopping distance video before and after to see the difference
That thing is gonna have some insane stopping power with those brakes and how light it’s gonna be.
Yeah…a little overkill likely
Extreme overkill but they sure look good tho (:
Great kit brother.. I wish I knew of this when I did mine!! So get ready because these things have crazy stopping power. I cant wait to see this one complete! Enjoy the hollidays brother!
Appreciate it brother! Loving the progress on yours, in love with the color too. I assume you made it across the Caribbean safe? lol Same to you, happy holidays.
@@HOUSEOFDULA lol yes made it back in 1 piece.. definitely a challenge for sure but we overcame!
Love the caliper logo. I had the brembos on my 98. Then I bought the chrome Bullitt wheels and the brembos wouldn't fit. Went with cobra calipers
Doing this sawp on my sn95 this week. Thanks for sharing 👌🏾😎👍🏾👍🏾
SWEET! Kit works perfectly. S&S really got it down. Let us know how you like the brake feeling / improvements or not.
Nice Vid Brother, Ecobruise coming along nicely!!!
Thanks man, getting fun. Should have motor fitting soon.
Excellent video! Do you know whether the Cadillac ATS/CTS Brembo calipers hold up to the extensive heat of endurance racing? Our stripped '85 Fox Body is built and used 100% for track competition - up to 8hr stints.
What about the dust shields? Will they still fit and are they even necessary?
Good to see you jule fila, tell bud A
This is a great setup. Good find and thanks for sharing.
PINNED! I just to inform everyone that the StopTech brake lines in the video are likely going to be too short! I'll update when I have a better part number for these. ALSO! S&S said if you dont want to run a spacer, having the calipers machined is perfectly fine.
Okay well I have them on the way it they work I’ll let you know. Also I watched a similar video and he said for the fox body hard line to ATS he used the same line that went to his PBR calipers that where on there already, if that’s the case mystery solved! Thanks.
Maxima motorsport part #MM-MMBK8F works great, long enough and I use an angle kit for drifting and I have plenty of slack
@@slow_carsgarage7422 Thank you!!
I’m shopping around for brakes on my Coyote swap and stumbled across your video. Great job explaining. Just wondering what you’re doing with the proportioning valve? I’d like to use a 96-98 hydroboost because of clearance on the valve cover and wondering what you’re using.
Hey bud! I'll be putting in a manual adjustable valve for the rear. Because I dont have a rear caliper picked out (likely taurus)...An adjustable one will help me dial it in. You do need a stronger rear brake though to help with the bias.
Hey man I know this is an older video but I have been referencing it lately trying to put together my brembo swap and I was wondering if you had any input on if my current 17" 03-04 sve(cobra) wheels will clear? Love your content and thanks for any feedback.
Hey man! I get asked this a lot, what wheels fit, etc. I have measurements posted on houseofdula.com, Its not all the diameter and backspace as it is the wheels spoke design. Chris Salmon, the guy who runs S&S Engineering and makes the swap bracket keeps a running wheel chart, look here www.ssengineeringllc.com/_files/ugd/c21922_3e90d6bb9aee4221915b8d3e5f30c90b.pdf It seems they do fit.
I got these calipers at the flea market for only 20$
But used without hoses in good condition i was wondering if i can fit them on my C10 chevy square body so im looking for similar kit without calipers on my truck please help me
I wish I could help! But do not know anything about these C10's. Going to have to get pretty crafty with brackets and what not but anything is possible!
Did the stoptech brake lines work?
Yes they will...just use the updated part number I posted. The ones in the video were too short. I still have not plumbed my brakes but the length is fine.
Great build man. What size offset did you use to clear the Brembos or what rim will clear the caliper.
17" minimum diameter. Offset and diameter though is not the big deal, its really the spoke design. The spoke to caliper clearance. A lot of fox wheels are dished and flat spoked, these wont work. What Ive been having to do was take measurements to the wheel companies and see if a particular wheel will fit or not.
So have you been able to test out your setup
No, im slow lol car is stil being built. Video coming out soon!
Great video Anything for the rear of foxbodies close to this ?
Well wilwood or baer, and others, but not the cheap brembo from a caddy like conversion that I personally know of. Most use the standard cobra rears with these and had good luck with bias, when used with a manual control valve
I've got most of my parts, wondering the part numbers on the pads and pin kit? Thanks
Sorry just got to the part in the video! Cheers!
good deal! Sorry just saw this
Obviously this is a great upgrade, but can we talk about foxbody brakes? I have the sn95 spindles with the 95 v6 front calipers, and it's slightly better than stock I guess, but the fronts lock up, so.damn.easy. I've come so close to rear ending people in the rain multiple times, and then I get in my 88 Camry and the brakes never lock up, stops fine and I never see my life flash before my eyes when Im driving it. And it has 40$ tires. Im just scared upgrading the brakes would make it lock up even more. Or does the design of them mitigate this?
Yeah, not normal. Shouldnt lock up like this. Your master cylinder sounds like its off, along with the fron/rear bias or bad/crappy tires. The pedal effort should modulate the brakes. Even with big brakes. The big brake kits WILL stop on a dime, but only if you command it to and mash the pedal. Also big brakes are installed for fighting fade, abuse when road racing or lots of heavy stops. Something is wrong with your setup, either master cylider bore size or front rear bias. Bias: Fronts locking could also just be not enough braking applied to the rear wheels, without the rear brakes, this puts all that weight transfer to the front causing lockup and worse the car will want to rotate 180. On a stock mustang the bias is hard set in the brake proportioning valve. Usually with a 5 lug conversion, the proportioning valve is gutted, and a manual valve in placed between the master cylinder and rear brakes to manually set the bias. This or crappy front tires. You said $40 tires? is that plural for both?
with a 4 piston caliper you will always have teh same clamping forces on both sides regardless of offseet, just the pistons on one side will be 2mm further out for that applicaion on one side.
Man good to know. I wasn't completely sure about this, I figured there was a greater reason to keep it centered, but I thought that...if it was off the piston would just come out further on a side. I appreciate you clarifying this,
That is true but u will not be able to fit new brake pads unless u grind them down by 2mm one side. They are super tight fit brand new. Plenty of fmc members have done this.
Great video and upgrade!! I’m looking at doing this, just one question did you ever confirm that the break lines would work? I looked up the part and it’s is a Lexus/Toyota rear brake line. I bought the calipers and rotors and going to get the ss kit just confirming the lines thanks!
No, I just did this last weekend. My thing is with no engine / weight on the car, coilovers not set etc, the brake line doesnt reach the bracket. Im not certain it will be long enough, but I just cat tell not. And my brake lines are even yet made. I think I found a forum on stangnet, where this was the part number others used for this on their mustang.
Maximum Motorsport part #MM-MMBK8F works. I have and angle kit for drifting and I have plenty of slack left. Comes with banjo and washers
That’s great news! Those are the ones I have for my 5 lug and brake conversion! Mystery solved!! Thanks for the help!
Instead of machining off 2mm from the spindle, couldn't you machine off 2mm from the caliper so you wouldn't have to use the spacer? Or would that make the mounting points too thin and weak?
So I hit up S&S about this and yes, in fact its preferred if you dont want to use a spacer. The calipers are built for a much heavier car and plenty beefy. The .100 off of the caliper is preferred so you dont have to machine the spindles.
Hey man. Love the video. I know you have had many questions about wheels onnthis video and its been a little over a year. But have you figured out what offset is needed on wheels to clear these calipers?
Thank you bud, appreciate it! Im still working it. Offset and oddly diameter is not really the biggest issue, its spoke clearance and placement. Most common "classic" foxbody wheels, Aodhans, BBS etc...with flat face and "dish" will not fit these. Will need to use a slightly more modern rimmed edge spoke style wheel. Believe it or not the 17" FR500's I have on my blue car fit perfect. These are the LMR FR500s. 17x9. Standard offset, 17" and only 9" wide they fit...but its because of the spoke design to allow for that caliper face to spoke clearance. Its been painstaken BUT I think I have an ESR wheel in mind for it.
@HOUSE OF DULA oh ok. Yeah I plan on get wheels from LMR but also plan on doing this upgrade as well.
@@AJHanna1982 Depends on the wheels but if FR500, theyll fit fine.
So will the SS brake lines I’m running now not work with these calipers?
@HOUSE OF DULA
Do you know if these brakes will have enough clearance heigh wise with 17” wheels
Some not all. Depends on many things, bs, spoke design etc. They don't clear cobra 17's but they did clear my 17" FR500s fine.
@@HOUSEOFDULA thanks a lot, 17” cobras is what I have so that’s awesome feed back. They look like they would be tight
So stock rear cobra calipers will be fine? I have a 95 and 03 I want to do this on..
I wish I can say definately that yes it will be fine. It will stop the car fine, just might have to crank up the dial bias on the rear. Ive heard that Taurus calipers work better. Look it up, ford taurus used the same exact caliper except the bore size is larger and more balances out with the 4 piston brembos. Again, this is all read, no real experience "yet"
slick setup Mike!
Appreciate it man!
Hey what all did that engine have that you got out of that white GT?
Hey bud! Im still rocking this engine with my turbo. It was a stock block, stock rods and crank. Speed Pro forged pistons, gapped for nitrous (I was told, ballsy move on my part), and your trick from TFS upper...heads and stage 1 cam. 75mm throttle body. Was only fired in vehicle and never completed and ran on street so basically new. I upgraded the water pump, and bolted it into my 86. Was a great deal, because the rest of the car was parted and I broke even on what I paid for it.
Wich wheel size you install on that to clear
17 or 18
Thank you
I have a 2004 mustang gt and replaced my rubber brake lines with the russell stainless steel brake lines. Do you think that I can use those lines on the brembo caliper instead of buying the ones mentioned?
Of course, they will work fine. Most people move to braided when they have the opportunity, and there is zero balooning in braided and can tend to give a firmer pedal. We're talking a very small amount of "firmer" IMO, Ive used both and barely can tell any difference.
Nice to now but staying my stock one s! Happy holidays!

@@jc-qc3yu hey you fit a 17x8 pony on with the Brembos ?
Do these work on a 17 inch pony wheel?
Most likely no. I cant say definitively because I have not tried. However, I will say, MOST wheels for these fox bodies will not fit. With the exception to big brake cars...Cobra anniversary wheels might, my 17" FR500s DO FIT. But its the spoke design more so than the diameter needed to clear these calipers. You need a spoke that pokes out and meant for a big brake. The ponies are pretty flat.
Slowly it will come together
Little bit at a time!
Sweet kit! I've been looking for an upgrade. I'll check their page out but do they not specify or recommend a particular backspacing or offset for wheel choice or even minimum wheel diameter?
No, with something like this your kind-of on your own to measure and do wheel homework. Google "cadillac ATS brembo mustang wheel choice" and there are a few threads out there with lots of folks trying it with different wheel choices.
I took a look at their page. They provide distance from outside of caliper to the mounting surface of the wheel. That’s a good start.
Not that this is your issue but they should certainly have that kind of info available and fortunately, they do.
Did you upgrade the master cylinder?
Its your standard cobra 1" with a STOCK 87-93 style booster. Thats all that would fit on the 79. We'll see I think it will be fine.

Yessir. They are correct, at least for me, they are longer. I have them installed but no weight on the car, once on its own weight I think they will be perfect. I can follow up once we get the car down.
I got the brakes do I have to change rims to fit? Rn I have 06 gt rims on my notch
This is a question i keep getting asked, whether some wheels will fit. I have no clue, best to do what i plan and take measurements of the caliper to hub face then measure the wheels or get the specs from the manufactures.
What year master cylinder and booster is that I’m tryna look for it
Its a new standard fox 86-93 booster, not cobra, and not sn95...The master cylinder is a 1" bore master (popular cobra spec I believe). I'll just have to see if it will work, I will need a larger brake in the rear versus your standard cobra brake to help with the brake bias.

@@rafatrill Yes and no. You can run an 18" front runner skinnies. Lots of guys run a larger front lightweight wheel with 15" slicks in the rear. These have plenty of stopping power for a drag car IMO. Are they the lightest? No, youd want to look at the wilwood ultra light drag setups or something. But these are engineered to be be on a big ATS, they are likely huge to help control noise as well. These are good beginner autocross, steet or drag setup IMO especially as light as it is....but likely ovrekill for a drag car.
@@HOUSEOFDULA I wish I would of known before hand I have some dual piston calipers off a newer cobra
@@rafatrill - Oh man you can sell those off preety quick and make money back if you wanted to go this route. 2 piston cobra brakes works great for 99% of foxbodys out there
Instead of machining the spindle bolt area how about just machine the caliper threaded inserts 2mm so you won’t need the spacer.
SWEET! 1st!
Uno!
so why not run the 1997 taurus rear calipers that are a 43 mm bore instead of the the 38mm ones ?

You sir are likely the 3rd or 4th to suggest this. AND most likely I will be going this route. Its supposed to have the best bias with the cadillac fronts.

Anyone who can understand how to use a lathe $ 5 kit in less than 1 hour without drilling out spindles
You dont have to drill out the spindles at all for anything.
