20 minutes before I watched this I was thinking I need to make a floorplan of my MC's apartment so I am able to navigate the space well for readers. It made me happy to see you did the same! You and I seem to outline very similarly, although this is going to be my first NaNoWriMo/novel attempt in which I try more than a few sentences of planning. I wish I could commit to livestreams from you, but my work schedule is wild so I am usually unavailable when people go live. Just know I'm sending you good luck on those!
Great minds think alike! Have you ever tried building out a floorplan on the Sims? I find if you've got the game it is really useful. I've been doing that now when I've got breaks at the day job. It's cool to go beyond the basic design and flesh out what each room contains a bit more without having to go to the much larger effort of drawing it all :) I'm just waiting to hear back on some plans but will probably be streaming over the weekend, but will announce via social media. Maybe I will luck out and you will be free! Either way, wishing you all the best with NaNoWriMo this time around, and thank *you* for the well-wishes in my direction!
I always love seeing others outline, especially when they outline the way I do (which is basically writing down every little detail, like seeing how you wrote down every single student's name made me feel understood lol) Love to join a livestream, just have to check if the pesky timezones allow it 💞
We are siblings in obsessiveness then haha it really is interesting to see when others' minds work in a similar way as yours does creatively. Working on an epic for a couple decades IS a good thing! That is some serious dedication. I have been working on one novel for the last fifteen years, (amongst many other projects) and it is still far from complete. I have different methods for how I outline, depending on what it is I am working on--as so many of my writing projects are radically different. Even if it is fiction, it all depends on what I plan to focus on. And yes! I would join in for a live! 😎
Thank you for the words of encouragement (and good to "see" you again!) - it always helps to know a fellow writer is also working away at something for a decade plus. I usually look to Tolkien and shame myself for taking longer than him to create my epic, but to each their own right? It just tends to build a lot more pressure for when it does get completed and that's stressful. That being said, I'm looking forward to seeing your decade+ work when it is released to the world, and do hope you are able to stop by one of my lives 😊 I'll be doing the first one tomorrow from 4:30-6pm eastern!
I love how detailed that all is actually. Even if I was writing a dark academia, I don't think I'd be so detailed to have as much as you in the form of layouts and maps. I'd be making it up as I go and having people I made it confusing to follow. Oops? Love it!

LOL I usually get struck by a random idea after watching a movie or reading a book or TV show or manga and then I start seeing either of the characters or some events in my head and I kind of just start building off of that by jotting down kind of the main premise and then I move onto war of a story outline and then I usually look up like the story structure and kind of put scenes I think would work in there but my current story I actually got the idea from the new craft movie about how the main girls a witch and she has the stepbrothers but the one that stood out to me the most was her gay stepbrother who is in love with her love interest and I thought wouldn’t that be a great story if a boy who is the stepbrother of like the chosen one or the one who would normally be the main character falls in love with her main interest and then he ends up getting with him instead of her and it really is inspiring to me LOL and now it’s going to be like a four book series LOL
That's great! And I really like your new concept. I actually do something similar to this, too. Though not with every story. I watch quite a bit of TV + movies while I'm working and any time I see a hint of an idea, generally something in the background that is not fully explored (like you taking a side character as main inspiration), I'll jot it down. It basically winds up resulting in a list of tropes I like and then I try to go from there, melding them together.

I tried one out this past Friday :) I would have left it up on the channel but I failed to realize that the music I was playing did not actually come through while I was streaming hahaha so it made for a bit of an awkward video. My Outlining method is quite similar to yours, I've only done chapter outlines for one project and I barely stick to it haha.
