Lived in Tampa for 13 years. Florida’s unemployment sucks. It is the downside of no state taxes. The max you get is $275 a week and the max claim is $3800. Doesn’t matter how much you made, either. Im from the NE and unemployment system is much better due to taxes. Who can live off of that even temporarily with the cost of living?I tell people looking to move to FL, make sure you have plenty of reserves because you cannot survive off that extremely low amount.

Clumate change specialists were urging state and local governments to adapt but no, too expensive.

When you pay little taxes, you get little benefits.

Before Hurricane Milton it had been 103 years since the Tampa Bay region suffered a direct hit by a major hurricane. During those 103 years the people of the Tampa Bay region became shockingly complacent about hurricanes! Now in so many ways we're paying a severe price for our own complacency and foolishness!

@@dark12ain I think Florida has a very serious problem with state politicians being in the pocket of the developer's political lobby! That has unfortunately resulted in a lot of very foolish building and zoning laws for decades all across the state. Florida has to become much smarter about future building and rebuilding in potentially dangerous areas, especially any place vulnerable to storm surge.

Florida would die without the property and sales tax revenue from the barrier islands. We would have to pay a lot more in taxes to make up for it

We don’t hire people with no experience to work construction by the 1000s. Sorry that’s not. A thing.
