- Well I’ve had a shocking day. Happens to everyone from time to time I know. Well today I had a stinker! So this video speaks for itself.
I will pick myself up and dust myself off the same as everyone else.
But this was a road trip I was very much looking forward to. I was looking forward to the drive, I was looking forward to the visits and I was looking forward to creating the video.
But with two break downs in 4 weeks it’s too risky.
Don’t worry there will be a plan B. :)

Take heart Jay Jay! Motor troubles will fix and plan A (Road Trip to Tantau and Kordes HQs - Fab!) will happen. In the meantime, plan B will be wonderful too. Keep going and thank you for your videos!
Cheer up friend, it may not happen now but I'm sure that in future days both you and your better half will have a ball traveling across Europe!

Jay Jay that is such a choker to have those exciting plans and then to have your motorhome do that. I can imagine how disappointing you must be feeling, but sounds like, as you have a plan b, that it's not an adventure missed only delayed. Hope you get to experience that adventure real soon and be able to enjoy every minute

I am looking foreword to see your impressions of Germany one day. The weather is as bad as in the UK here. So take your time 😂.

Jay Jay, if you do go to Germany one day, I recommend visiting Sangerhausen which is probably the biggest rosarium in mainland Europe. It is not as beautiful as a typical (?) English garden, but one can learn a lot there. I'm sorry about your mishap!
Hi English funny I just bought up a map of Germany I have 4 saved places. One of them fond memories of drunken times gone past. The other 3, Kordes, Tantau and Sangerhausen. I saved it for some reason I will have to go there one day. :) thank you

Oh no what a shame. Sorry to hear your plans have gone awry. I'm sure it will happen in the future. I especially look forward to the Tantau nursery.
Oh Jay Jay I can hear how deflated you sound. I am so sorry things haven't gone as you were hoping. I know it must be a big disappointment to you and you've obviously planned a special trip but at least the break down happened while you were here and can be sorted out hopefully without too much stress to yourselves. Congrats on the new motorhome, I'm sure you will put that to good use once the teething problems are ironed out. The weather up here has been breezy and miserable grey all day with the odd bit of drizzle. We are all having rotten weather at the moment. Hopefully Plan B will put a big smile on your face and we all look forward to that x
Hi Linda yea I’m gutted but these things happen to everyone. Best laid plans etc. there will be a plan b I’m looking at options now but yeah a kick in the gonads. That would have been a fun road trip for me personally.
Hi Jay, We had 3 motorhomes (Auto Sleepers) over 30 years and loved them. Yours looks wonderful, we went all over France, Germany etc and of course the UK.. We only gave up in 2019 because of our age. You will love it when you get going.

I am sorry, that you can’t travel to Germany! But I am sure that your motorhome can be repaired. I am excited and looking forward to your journey to Tantau and Kordes. Also in Austria the weather is horrible. Rain every day and it’s also too cold for June.

Oh, mixed feelings here ! Happy you got a motorhome and are preparing great trips, sorry this first one had to be cancelled or delayed...About the weather, tonight I came home to a thick dahlia stem completely smashed on the ground...I didn't realise wind was so tough today (south west of France). I hope they're gonna fix that motorhome quickly and that it won't be too pricey. I like road trips, I did one south west to south east of France and back but just in my car and sleeping one night in each city I decided to visit. The goal was to go and visit "le palais idéal du facteur cheval" and it was a great adventure ! I'd love to do something similar one day, maybe involving plant shows/plant fairs/plant curiosities ^^

Hi there and thank you. Yes years ago I drove down to the south of france all the way down to St Tropez. Great drive that was in an old Volvo estate. I know now I went past Meilland HQ. Maybe next year for that one. On the med may even pursuade mrs Jayjay to come with me. :)

I was so looking forward to it for the longest time. Just the road trip would have been a hoot. Pulling over boiling the kettle that’s abit of me. There will be a plan b but we will see when that happens.
Oh sorry you had such a frightener, breaking down in a car is one thing, breaking down in something that size is a real headache. In my early days I carried a full tool kit in the boot and always got myself home. Re. the weather. We got hammered by 40mph winds on thursday and it started with a whimper but in ten minutes it was howling. I went through changes of jeans, jumpers, trousers etc putting up windbreaks for my plants. We get so many predictable fierce southerlies ( im on the coast) that ive made several erectable windbreakers that I instal when I hear the wind picking up. James Galway began thrashing about like an angry octopus, but when it blew over Id lost one big lateral in the whole garden. We then had 10c for two days, cardys and cosies in the conservatory.
Yes this is a pain with the cold daytime temps we’re seeing. We’re using gas we don’t usually use this time of year.
It was a miracle I didn’t lose more stems broken. I lost one big stem on spicy, and one big one on Amadeus but that was it. Spicy is now in the lounge with about 6 unopened buds and 4 partly opened and one huge flower. So will see how that goes.
The breakdown yes, going down a county lane I flashed my headlights and then lost engine and all electrics. Couldn’t start her. No electrics just a couple of dash lights. Would turn over fine but not engage.
Called recovery and waited. I pulled on the battery terminal leads, a good tug with drivers door open. I noticed interior light came on, that was the sign I knew she would start and she did. But obviously loosing all engine and electrics whilst in transit not something I want to repeat on autobahn.
Ah, happy for your new purchase JJ! Really sad you can't go to Germany in the motorhome, I'd still risk it, there are garages in Europe too, you know? And they are probs even cheaper :) Weather has been horrendous this year , rain, wind, cold... My tomatoes regret they were born, considering they are growing in bloody Arctics in the middle of June 🤷🏻♂️ But roses are seem to be enjoying this...
Hi vorong yes I could risk it. I thought about it long and hard. But engine just dying and losing all electrics whilst in transit on one of the autobahns is just too risky. To have that happen anywhere is too risky. We had it happen twice now in four weeks. Not worth the risk. But there will be a plan b and I’m hoping it will be this summer.
(But first I need to get it fixed and be confident enough it really IS fixed this time. The 21st is not enough time)
@@Jay_Jay oh yeah I see what you mean. Yh if it's the engine, I wouldn't risk it as it can be just a lengthy and complicated repair process. Hopefully you'll get it sorted and we will see lots of content from it:)🤞

So sorry to hear that your plan has had to be abandoned, and thank you for the update, it would of been a awesome video I'm sure of it, try again at a later date mate, you never know if try later it might be a better video, and you might have more fun fella :D

Oh what a bummer to have to cancel your trip. My parents belonged to some RV group where you could call in if you broke down & get advice on a good repair place & where to stay., eat, even sometimes a host to show you around. Is there maybe some such group in Europe? Well, in any case, I'm sure the trip will come eventually & perhaps at a time when the weather is better---The Universe might have actually been helping you by taking the van out of commission b/c the weather doesn't sound too promising. Or perhaps some wonderful thing is about to happen to you but you would have missed it had you been away? I hope that is the case and I hope the van repairs are quick & painless so you can do some local traveling, perhaps testing out the van & showing us your lovely countryside!
Hi vintage yes I love the positive outlook. I’m certain I can make something happen at some point. I’ve zero doubt. Yes there are organisations but we don’t know them too well just yet we’re still new to motorhoming. But something will get sorted it maybe next year I don’t know, but something will get done.
Oh what a shame Jay Jay especially as you were so looking forward to your travels. Hope you get your motorhome fixed soon and it's not going to be too expensive. Weather has been awful today and we actually had large hail stones this afternoon. I was tempted to put the heating back on but thought no, I'll use the money to buy another rose instead!

Hi Jay Jay! I just watched this video today. That’s really cool if you are going to Kordes and Rosen Tantau, one of my dream place to go too. It’s also far for me but I will ask my son’s help to go there and include seeing Hamburg & a musical too!Congratulations on your new acquisition, it’s not working now but it will in the future. I will be going tomorrow to Sangerhausen, forecasted no rain there but the rest of the week will also be horrendous for my roses, they will be tortured by the strong wind. There’s another place which I visited already called Bad Nauheim, it’s a home for 5 or 6 Rose Breeders near to each other. But this is really far for you and Donna. I on the other hand would like to go to David Austen, Sisinghurts? garden and I would like you to go back to Trebah garden, beautiful place somewhere on the south. A lovely dah to you and Donna!🌹🌹🌹

I’m still hoping to do something just juggling things around. I certainly would love to go there. Not the most magnificent gardens I don’t believe but still their home.
Sissinghurst is only a very short drive from me, I should do some filming there really.
@@Jay_Jay Really! That would be nice to see Sisinghurts and hear your thoughts about this garden. It would cost me a lot to see all these gardens in UK so they all should worth it. Back to your garden Jay, you have ‘Soul’ rose, it’s from Rosen Tantau, Rose of the year 2018 from German Rose society. I have one in the garden but with so many red roses I lost track of her. Greetings from Kentucky Jay Jay. I hope you can come up with a plan B for your trip. The weather is crazy here in Kentucky right now. We have no rain in sight for at least two weeks. We are in a heat wave with temperatures around 95-100 degrees factoring in the high humidity. Needless to say, I am watering my garden and roses every morning. Most parts of the US are in a heat wave right now. Not a good way to start out summer. Your roses look fantastic as usual. Take care, James

Sorry for your problems. Motorhomes are notorious for having issues. Breaking down in Germany would be terrible. Take care, and I hope you don't have too much damage from the wind.

Sorry to hear all the bad news and I hope that not too much damage has been done to your roses by the wind. I overdid the dead heading deliberately thinking it might help to lessen the breakages and thankfully no damage has been done. The sunniest part of my garden is also the windiest.
That was a very wise decision by yourself. Sadly many of mine were not approaching deadheading they were still in bud. One of the roses I supported last night guess what…. It snapped! Right on the support. Grrrr

So sorry to hear that your plan has had to be abandoned. It sounds like it would have been a fun trip and video, but I think you have made a sensible decision. We have had the same torrential rain over at the Welsh border. I have been out there deadheading flowers which have been blown apart and putting supports in even on my normally most upright roses. I thought last summer was bad, but this year is looking to be even worse.
Yeah it would have been a hoot nik. I was looking forward to that drive and the visits. A nice little break away and fun to be had. The actual rose gardens not that spectacular, but what is the saying, it’s not the destination but the journey. I hope you (and I) get some calm seasonal weather soon. Can’t be much to ask for can it. Just calm will do me.

Well, I'm the first to comment this time, maybe. Like you Jay Jay I'm looking out at the cold and miserable weather here in Kent on this Saturday evening. I know we need the rain but we don't need this b. wind with it. I don't know what the problem is with the motor home but I hope you get it fixed soon and without too much expense; hopefully no expense. You certainly don't sound the usual upbeat and happy person that I know you are. The weather, van playing up and change of plans don't add up to happiness. Hopefully that all changes soon. At least by telling us all about it it becomes - a problem shared is a problem halved. Thanks for sharing. It's now 18:07 on Saturday evening and it's hammering down. OK, it'll be filling the water butts but won't be doing the roses a lot of good. At least we've had a good time with them up until now. You and I won't be getting flooded out either. If your probem with the van is electrical I do know of someone who is second to none with electrics on vehicles and he would come to you. Let me know if you want his contact number and I'll get it for you. He doesn't live far away from you. I don't know what your 'Plan B' is but I hope it cheers you up. And in furtherance of your Autumnal conditions, I live in a coastal setting.....and, I too, have been somewhat distraught at the sight of my much loved ladies getting an ABSOLUTE battering! As you stated, broken branches, new blooms destroyed.....now I really understand from whence that phraseology... Flamin' June 'stems' from!

You make me laugh Peter. Yeah you have to laugh. I just mentioned below, one of the roses I staked last night it snapped. Spicy Parfuma a hybrid tea with 8 or 9 buds on just about to open. Snapped right on the support I put in place. The heating keeps coming on and we are in June! I can think of another F for June and it’s not flaming! :)
Well....in that case I shall have to..F..F..F..F..Fess up...I jest you not, I have been sitting here clutching a F....F hot water bottle! Gospel.
