      Low petal count, 30 to 40, I prefer very high petal count, old 1800s cabbage rose form. And saturated with fragrance.

    Good evening Jay, 1:35 Perhaps they sensed that you are an experienced, competent rosarian, so they sold it to you before ready for average buyer? These rose sellers must operate as much as possible to not disappointed the les experienced. Whenever i buy undersized rose plants, I keep them in pots, at least until they are rugged enough to plant in the ground. The irreplaceable rose plants I keep in massive pots their entire lifetime. I use the usual sphagnum/perlite potting mix, but the lowest 30% of the soil in the pot I mix the potting mix with a generous amount of well developed, improved garden soil because I suspect that the minute mineral crystals have some as yet not understood electro magnetic/ chemical influence on the roots. Roses planted in pure potting mix attain to about 80 percent of the lushness of ground planted roses, so I add some garden soil. ALSO, I dump a few shovels full of garden soil into a 5 gallon bucket, top it off with water, agitate it briskly with the shovel or hoe, then I water all of my roses with this water. In strong sunshine I can see the glint an sparkle of millions of minute mineral particles, I also add whatever fertilizer that is need to this, I think that roses get som micro nutrients out of this, one that can easily be deficient in conventional potting situation is magnesium. The plants MUST have micro amounts of magnesium in order to create chlorophyll.
    O.K., enough of my rambling, now back to listen to your show and tell. I see 47 comments, too many comments, it can become physically impossible to reply to all, I just write as if I am in your garden with you discussing things, that is how we do better, by discussing and learning from one another.
    2:18 yes, a quite respectable looking start. An experienced gardener can have this growing wonderfully when days are long. 2:48 Yes, a floribunda will be quite happy for many years in a massive pot. Also what I like about pots is that for short rose plants like floribunda, i can raise the pot up higher to eye level by placing my pots on top of massive 100+ year old sandstones, better yet, if possible is to underplant in the pot, trailing flowers that will drape over the pot and better integrate it into it's environment, I do it with alyssum. The rose plant must be the star of the show, not the underplanting. I have contemplated many possibilities for underplanting, all of them too flashy, for the past many years I know of nothing better than alyssum, plain white alyssum does not stall out mid summer, it keeps going rith up into autumn. And a large nough mass of alyssum gives of a strong honey fragrance in warm , still, sunshine.
    2:56 O.K. we are on the same wavelength regardeing potting. 3:57 You may contemplate sinking the pot into the garden soil, in case it manages to push roots down through the bottom of the pot, that would boost it's growth wonderfully. dare not have it overshadowed with other plants though. My objet d'amour arrived 3 weeks ago, it is a Ralph Moore miniature ( 2 feet high mature size) Scarlet Moss rose. Near impossible to get. I do adore th fact that it is a moss rose, but my primary motive was seeking roses to fill up my 100+ year old Weller pots. Lax caned roses are perfect for this partially obscuring the pot.
    Being a floribunda it likely will give you a half dozen blooms this year. Best of luck with your new darling. I have only perhaps 18 rose plants, I don't buy just whatever gets in my way, So I understand the affection for a specific plant. Also my Paschmina Veranda overwintered in my cold room and is looking splendid out of doors now with flower buds beginning to emerge. I tried for 3 years to get the rose, so difficult/impossible to get that I nearly gave up. Perfect Victorian/Redoute cabbage roses.
    Ralph in Ohio.

      @Jay_Jay  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi Ralph, I will try to cover your points in one go but please do remember I type blind once I start. I did not mention I have a TH-cam channel in the conversation I had with C & K I do this because my channel is tiny and I doubt will make any difference at all. And also because I’m just like you a normal customer. So the rose I get could be the one you or anybody else gets. That’s how I at least try to keep it.
      Yes planting in pots I see ordinary garden earth as an important part of the mix nowadays. Throw some garden worms in there if I can. Even chunks of clay, not enough to form a layer to block drainage but chunks of clay none the less. Clay I’m told is packed with nutrients and has an ability to hold on to those nutrients for a long time. And I know the roots of roses drill into that clay no issue.
      I’m hoping you will see some trailing plants from my potted roses this year. It does make such a good difference to the look.
      I’ve said before I will always try and reply to comments with the same energy as the original comment. I’ve said that from day one and with 33 subscribers my channel was the perfect size 100,1000, or even now it’s still the perfect size. But I guess a time will come I won’t be able to do that anymore and then I will know it’s grown too big so I’m in no rush for it to grow bigger but that day will come eventually I’m sure.
      Glad to hear your rose is coming along nicely sorry I forget the spelling verande is my stab in the dark. My wedding piano is looking strong hopefully you will get to see some
      Cabbage form from my garden later this year. Take care Ralph and thanks for dropping by.

    You do realise that if this rose was difficult to get hold of before, it'll be impossible now that you've told all your followers about it! I thought at first it's like one of those newspaper articles where someone reveals their perfect secret holiday destination that no one else knows about, and the next year it's swarming with tourists, but then I realised that with roses it's different - if a rose is in demand, growers will produce more of that variety, so you are doing the world's rose lovers a favour! I happened to see some Perfect Charismas with strong stems in the garden centre today - can you just give me a very quick review (in particular, does it produce a lot of blooms?), because I seem to remember you were very pleased with yours? Also I bought a Westerland bare root last autumn and it's looking like one of the weakest/unhealthiest growing bare roots in my greenhouse, but the ones I saw in the garden centre looked stronger (but that was after a drink, so through beer-goggles which make everything look better!) - what's your opinion of it regarding health and vigour?

      Yes the pics on the website don’t do it justice but if you know it you’ll know. How is our little game going Hailey? Mine are just so stubborn. 90 percent of my roses in bud now but the actual petals not yet unfolding. Maybe a little swelling on one or two roses with the colour bursting through. This could normally change in an afternoon but these being very stubborn. I’m guesstimating a 2 or 3 days of fine weather. But I am now checking each day to see if they have unravelled.

    You will like this one for her unique multi colours, this one habit is upright. Dark green foliage and very healthy, the repeat is well in my climate as well (Supposed to be as same as Uk). I have been having Distant Drums in pretty big container in 3-4 years already and growing well. Fragrance is moderate with tea, green apple hint. One thing I dislike this one is the canes die back significantly in the winter and slowly growing back later in Spring, but this is just my climate, since we have couple deep cold days.

    Lovely healthy rose you've got there - I'd be very happy to receive one in that condition. Not a rose that I'd heard of, but looking on the internet it seems to be the sort of colouring that I particularly like, resembling the orange/pink mixtures of Abraham Darby and Alpine Sunset. I did mention it to my wife, but she seems convinced that we already have enough roses - can you believe that? How can anyone have enough roses? I look forward to seeing yours in bloom - soon it looks like. Regarding unpotting and transplanting roses, I had to move my Ab Fab this week - it's been in the ground a year, but hasn't grown strong roots at all, and since it had started growing for this season, it's drooping and looking very bedraggled several days later. I wanted to move it earlier but the clay has been waterlogged. Now I'm worried that maybe I shouldn't move all my greenhouse bare root self-potted roses from last autumn into the ground in case a similar fate befalls them. It may be safer to leave it until next winter?

    • @Jay_Jay
      @Jay_Jay  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Never too many roses :)
      Yes transplanting them from the ground is a little tricky once they start to grow. I try and get them transplanted before the new growth starts. Even moving my sweet honey was a little late. The growth that had just started prior to moving went limp and now a little stagnant I think it’s transplant shock. This is why I’m always Adamemt when planting or moving a potted rose, leave the rootball alone as much as possible. No teasing etc. just leave alone as much as possible the roots will settle in themselves without going into shock. (Yes I know I do unpot my roses but I hope I’m always clear that’s just to show people where the magic happens.) hopefully your roses will be fine nik. Transplant shock lasts 1-3 months I’ve found just whilst the roots settle down again. :)
