What a modern age we live in. Imagine if you went back in time and told a DJ in 1977 that one day you could have hundreds of thousands of songs on a computer the size of a book and control music using a wireless remote that sits on top of your record? Oh, and while your at a gig you can acquire pretty much any song ever recorded in less than a minute.
Imagine if those DJs could have heard modern scratching and mixing, they would have thought it was black magic and wouldn't even have understood how to create those scratches, let alone the complexity and speed of the routines. And most of those oldskool DJ's would have quit after seeing a 10 yr old doing it all!
Flash was a bit ahead of the curve, he had a Flashformer out in the late 80's, I remember buying one, it allowed you to transform a lot more cleanly and tighter as crossfaders were whack back then, it was a bit fiddly to use imo and I preferred the crossfader but one of the earliest DJ gadgets I recall seeing. You can hear it in use on his late 80's albums.
That scope turned me on. Holy Crap. Super excited for this. My favorite part is, that while normal mixing, I wont have to worry about timecode vinyl runout anymore.

I would love to go to a gig and set up the most run down cracked up duck taped turn tables (as long as the motors work.) And see the faces as you set up then sneak the phase on top and they will be dumbfounded.
This is real science that the new young dj will never know about!!! I started cutting up beats in 1977!!! Grandmaster Flash and Grandwizard Theadore were my hero's!!! I wish I could be your assistant or run my own class! (even though I am not as great as you)!!!!!!!
Dude, you can get a tonearm for $100 and you can change it out yourself, just borrow a soldering iron and watch a youtube video. I replaced both tonearms on my mk3's for a couple hundred bucks.
Mojaxx, thank you! I finally understand what it's doing after watching your video. The Phase box is outputting the timecode signal, not the serato output audio. Don't know why I didn't get that from the others. So, the Phase really just replaces the control vinyl, you still need the DS1 or SL2 or DVS-enabled mixer. Got it. Thanks!!
Have a question for the DJ cityTV The RCA cables from the turntable you don't have to connect to the mixing console anymore, the whole thing is controlled by the phase so practically by dfen modules lying on the timecode vinyl is that really?
You could stack a small 45 with a mini slipmat on top of the a record actually playing with the tonearm and use rane 12 on the top one - giving you 4 simultaneous records playing
I’m late to the game on this but I was honestly expecting the price to be close to $1000. Surprised it’s relatively cheap in terms of DJ equipment. Does this come with serato DJ software?
If I currently don't own a DVS system now, would it be recommended to buy one of them such as the Denon DS-1 (which comes with Serato DJ) before I spend money on Phase? Thanks
Personally the sound of the needle on the control vinyl drives me crazy. This is a great solution to that. I would like to see a modded Technics platter with space for this under slipmat.
Except for in an extremely close quiet setup where you may hear subtle stylus vibration directly you should never hear timecode unless controller isn't between deck and mixer be timecode is not for human ears it's for controller gears. With Phase there is no needle so it can't drive you to be instituted not even half a micro-fraction. Also unlikely to deliver you even a parcel-portion passed societies strange grey silly-picnic...
Mojaxx, I'm in a family of 3 djs, everyone with their individual setup. Everyone wants their own Phase receiver, will this be an issue if everyone is playing all at once together in the same room???? What if remotes get crossed??? Thanks in Advance
Years ago I tried to get Openlabs to merge with numark and use their d -beat with numark platters for a stand-alone unit and they brushed me off like I was insane thru email.
Crazy question but i was thinking about this i have a pioneer DDJ-SZ and i have Traktor as my primary software loaded via TSI. files now because i'm trying to scratch using Traktor the TSI. file is not allowing me to do so ( the way i want to) , i can on Serato but i want to use Traktor and scratch the same way or better. The latency is bad via Traktor (for scratching) so i was thinking and i know sounds dumb or cheap but i do not want to purchase Turntables to be able to use Phase so what i've thought about doing is adding a spindle on the surface in the middle of the platter or centering the Phase and applying it that way i can use the Phase with Traktor. What i've also noticed even with Serato is even when setting up to scratch there is a very small crossfader lag even after doing the adjustment via the companies info on how to close the gap it still is just a little off so using this device i could use for both pieces of software and have no cross fader lag and be able to scratch on both pieces of software. So I wanted to hear your thoughts on this I know sounds crazy right? I hope they rea design it. Me and other DJ. When mixing grab the centre pin of the deck and twist it to slightly speed up the record. You can't do this with this device on there. Hopefully they make a thin version.

PawelMrozRudy That is correct. I think it was not explained well in the video. You will need a computer connected, a mixing software and digital music. You will need to load up tracks via your screen or some configured high tech mixer. Also there is no needle drop, which makes track search impossible (I suppose you can only use cue points). This product seems sort of cool but there are lots of cons to it which were not really discussed.
this a game changer......its basically the same signal if the technology puts out the precise timing. i can see dj's now forgetting to charge them tho. most people are gonna need 2 pair
but we still need to use the computer... I wish the MP3 would me loaded in the receiver or something... To me the ultimate DVS is getting rid of the computer. I don't see a great advantage between this and timecoded vinyls
All I know is Shure didn't have to jump out the game like that. They could have hung around for at least a year post Phase. Then maybe stopped production. I do like this tech I think it will change things.

Sign a deal with Serato or recordbox, & build the reciever in to the DVS interface.
Phase will cut Sereto, Rane, Pioneer etc deep making a lot of hardware obsolete. VirtualDJ Software will be the way to go with this.

How you drop the needle where you want
Cue points i guess
I don't understand how it works?! How this thing read a vinyl? Before using vinyl must be ripped to mp3 or something like that? ????
PawelMrozRudy That is correct. I think it was not explained well in the video. You will need a computer connected, a mixing software and digital music. You will need to load up tracks via your screen or some configured high tech mixer. Also there is no needle drop, which makes track search impossible (I suppose you can only use cue points). This product seems sort of cool but there are lots of cons to it which were not really discussed.
No it's not correct at all it does not read vinyl its sends timecode signal to your computer so you can control digital files in your Dvs system.
Why would you want to needle drop if your using a Dvs lol
tom Brown Well done misreading a comment. Nobody said it reads a vinyl. How this gadget technically works is clear.
tom Brown If you don't understand the use of needle drop also when using a DVS I can only assume you're a DJ constantly staring at your laptop screen.
Looks great
this a game changer......its basically the same signal if the technology puts out the precise timing. i can see dj's now forgetting to charge them tho. most people are gonna need 2 pair
but we still need to use the computer... I wish the MP3 would me loaded in the receiver or something... To me the ultimate DVS is getting rid of the computer. I don't see a great advantage between this and timecoded vinyls
the advantage would be that with Phase you will not wear out decent audiophile stylus on a timecoded vinyl.
All I know is Shure didn't have to jump out the game like that. They could have hung around for at least a year post Phase. Then maybe stopped production. I do like this tech I think it will change things.
I'm In!!!
Whoa, this is essentially a game changer!
