    What a modern age we live in. Imagine if you went back in time and told a DJ in 1977 that one day you could have hundreds of thousands of songs on a computer the size of a book and control music using a wireless remote that sits on top of your record? Oh, and while your at a gig you can acquire pretty much any song ever recorded in less than a minute.

      Imagine if those DJs could have heard modern scratching and mixing, they would have thought it was black magic and wouldn't even have understood how to create those scratches, let alone the complexity and speed of the routines. And most of those oldskool DJ's would have quit after seeing a 10 yr old doing it all!

      Flash was a bit ahead of the curve, he had a Flashformer out in the late 80's, I remember buying one, it allowed you to transform a lot more cleanly and tighter as crossfaders were whack back then, it was a bit fiddly to use imo and I preferred the crossfader but one of the earliest DJ gadgets I recall seeing. You can hear it in use on his late 80's albums.

    Mojaxx, thank you! I finally understand what it's doing after watching your video. The Phase box is outputting the timecode signal, not the serato output audio. Don't know why I didn't get that from the others. So, the Phase really just replaces the control vinyl, you still need the DS1 or SL2 or DVS-enabled mixer. Got it. Thanks!!

      Except for in an extremely close quiet setup where you may hear subtle stylus vibration directly you should never hear timecode unless controller isn't between deck and mixer be timecode is not for human ears it's for controller gears.
      With Phase there is no needle so it can't drive you to be instituted not even half a micro-fraction. Also unlikely to deliver you even a parcel-portion passed societies strange grey silly-picnic...

    Crazy question but i was thinking about this i have a pioneer DDJ-SZ and i have Traktor as my primary software loaded via TSI. files now because i'm trying to scratch using Traktor the TSI. file is not allowing me to do so ( the way i want to) , i can on Serato but i want to use Traktor and scratch the same way or better. The latency is bad via Traktor (for scratching) so i was thinking and i know sounds dumb or cheap but i do not want to purchase Turntables to be able to use Phase so what i've thought about doing is adding a spindle on the surface in the middle of the platter or centering the Phase and applying it that way i can use the Phase with Traktor. What i've also noticed even with Serato is even when setting up to scratch there is a very small crossfader lag even after doing the adjustment via the companies info on how to close the gap it still is just a little off so using this device i could use for both pieces of software and have no cross fader lag and be able to scratch on both pieces of software. So I wanted to hear your thoughts on this I know sounds crazy right? I'm only a hobbyist DJ in my home but i do want to be able to mimic and practice things i've seen on youtube by DJ's such as yourself without any issues small or large and this here has bugged me for the longest time that i can't scratch on Traktor loaded up on the DDJ-SZ because it just won't work I"m a big Traktor guy and Serato is powerful indeed but i've been with Traktor for 12-13 years so i kinda know the software in and out Serato not so much i'm still learning it.

I used a traktor controller and that was ok, but I always feel like I'm playing with a kids toy when using ANY type of controller with small jog wheels. I then went with using djay pro for iPad along with a dedicated controller again... Reliability issues. Phase looks promising!!! Can't wait to test them with either my 1200's or my Numark HDX. Out the box it is configured to run with Serato products (Serato DJ, Scratch Live), so all you have to do is charge, connect it & go. What they don't tell you for Windows users is that the software to configure it can only be run on a Windows 10 PC. But you don't have to configure Phase on the same PC that you DJ from. So if you've go access to a Windows 10 PC somewhere, you'd install the software on that computer, configure, then hook Phase up to your DJ system. I use it with my Rane TTM 57SL on a Windows 7 PC running Scratch Live & it works great.

      Dude, it sends the time code to your dj software by tracking the position of the record instead of a needle reading the timecode.

    • @jasonsabbagh5993
      @jasonsabbagh5993 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      So it’s not actually reading anything off of the record but timing a digital file is that right?

    • @genaugmen4505
      @genaugmen4505 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jasonsabbagh5993 As I understand it, It's sending the time code by the position of the record itself, instead of the position of the needle on the record.

      I guess you don't but the target that has interest in this product most likely owns a mixer with cue point buttons or an external MIDi controller like Dicer's or similar.

  • @evanjohnmo

    I can't wrap my head around the idea that you don't need good turntables to use these. What if you have a TT with a laggy platter motor? Won't that cause a slight delay in speed to normal rate?

    • @D-One
      @D-One 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't think he thought that one thru. If you use a crap belt drive TT with slow start up it will still suck, it might never skip like a record, but it will still suck.

    • @XR3acts
      @XR3acts 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lol dude the guy just put the vinyl on a freaking cup. Also you'd have to be pretty shitty to buy a $350 product and not have at least a decent spinning table.

    • @mm-2018
      @mm-2018 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes ... your platters and motors have to be good. The phase keeps time on whatever it's on. Spin it on a pencil and get that time.

    • @mm-2018
      @mm-2018 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I started out on realistic belt drive straight arms from radio shack in the early 80s..this is far beyond nickles and pennies on your needles..lol

    • @Jett_Nebula
      @Jett_Nebula 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      i think what X is referring to is the fact that a crappy TT can work with this because all of the external factors of
      "plastic" TT (feedback and vibrations) are canceled out by the Phase system. my first TT were some Gemini PT-2000 II (BTW i still have them and they work ). one thing i hated about the that deck was that it picked up all the vibrations due to the plastic construction. the Phase system would eliminate that.

  • @bennydigital8184
    @bennydigital8184 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great first look. I love Phase but won't be buying it.. My problem is that when I wind a record on a touch, I like to turn the spindle a little bit or stab it along near the centre - Anyone else do this?

    • @sumguy835
      @sumguy835 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ben Solloway
      Tried it because I saw others doing it, but my way for beat matching was to spin the wax with my finger at tempo while catching up with the pitch. Or drag the platter. Had more control than using the spindle.
      Phase will work for me.

    I don't understand how it works?! How this thing read a vinyl? Before using vinyl must be ripped to mp3 or something like that? ????

    • @nonplusx
      @nonplusx 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      PawelMrozRudy That is correct. I think it was not explained well in the video. You will need a computer connected, a mixing software and digital music. You will need to load up tracks via your screen or some configured high tech mixer. Also there is no needle drop, which makes track search impossible (I suppose you can only use cue points). This product seems sort of cool but there are lots of cons to it which were not really discussed.

    • @tmbrown2409
      @tmbrown2409 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      No it's not correct at all it does not read vinyl its sends timecode signal to your computer so you can control digital files in your Dvs system.

    • @tmbrown2409
      @tmbrown2409 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Why would you want to needle drop if your using a Dvs lol

    • @nonplusx
      @nonplusx 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      tom Brown Well done misreading a comment. Nobody said it reads a vinyl. How this gadget technically works is clear.

    • @nonplusx
      @nonplusx 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      tom Brown If you don't understand the use of needle drop also when using a DVS I can only assume you're a DJ constantly staring at your laptop screen.

  • @garrapato
    @garrapato 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    but we still need to use the computer... I wish the MP3 would me loaded in the receiver or something... To me the ultimate DVS is getting rid of the computer. I don't see a great advantage between this and timecoded vinyls

    • @PaulDigDeep
      @PaulDigDeep 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      the advantage would be that with Phase you will not wear out decent audiophile stylus on a timecoded vinyl.

  • @Jusb81
    @Jusb81 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    All I know is Shure didn't have to jump out the game like that. They could have hung around for at least a year post Phase. Then maybe stopped production. I do like this tech I think it will change things.
