    Ever the machinist putting an indicator on the tiny shaft you’re trying to bend back straight! Well done. 👍

    Gradual Improvement. Nice to watch you make your Lathe better and better. You will enjoy using it much more in the fine condition that you are repairing it to.

    This is always nice to do, cleaning and partially dis-assembling your lathe. nice way to get to know the ins and outs of it that way. Plus a shiny lathe is a happy lathe ;)

      Thanks, Yes shiny is good ;-). And nice to get to know the machine. I dont need things like the paint to be perfect but I do want to have the moving parts clean and functioning the way they should.

    I have just watched your interesting video. Thanks, Bart. My comment is a bit late, I know.
    You could generate a lot more pressure to clear the oil way using a grease gun. Or maybe you have a hydraulic front brake lever unit from a motorcycle. Of course, you would have to contrive an adaptor for it.
    Cheers, Bill

    • @bartharkemametalworks2299
      @bartharkemametalworks2299  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Bill, thanks for the suggestions. The hand pump and crank pump should give some pressure but the problem is that it's an open system. The end of the line goes into an overflow that lubricates the drive shafts. Before that there is a T connection that is probably blocked. But I can't hold any pressure. Maybe possible from the cross slide back to the pump line but that is hard to connect. I will open up the apron in the future but this temporary system works also very good.

    Nice job as usual although I was surprised you did not look into the cause of the bent pump lever a bit more to see if the half nut lever could be changed to a position so that didn't hit the pump handle. It does seem a bit strange that it was like that from the factory ie a design flaw rather than a previous owner maybe mounting it incorectly.

    • @bartharkemametalworks2299
      @bartharkemametalworks2299  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Derek, I did check it but its not in the video. There was no quick fix and I think if I want to change it I need to open up the apron. That will be a future project so I left it the way it is and be a little more carefull with the lever.

    Hi Bart,
    I have the same machine here in Australia that I’m currently restoring. Mine is missing the cross slide and compound slide lock levers. I see you play with it quickly in your video but I’m unsure of how they’re meant to function. If you can help me describe them and the function or pull one out and send me some photos please reach out!

    Great job! I have the same machine as you. The oil in feedgearbox sightglass is just dripping, do uou know if this is right? The upper one is pouring but not the feedgearbox one

    • @bartharkemametalworks2299
      @bartharkemametalworks2299  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is correct. Top one flows and gearbox drip. Manual says:
      "The oil window or flow in- dicator ( LH-7 ) at the front of the headstock gives a check for the working of the system during operation. A continuous flow of the oil must be observed while the mechanical pump is runn-
      ing.
      The oil partly split into the feed gearbox and can be che- cked through the oil window ( LH-8 ) at the front of this unit where dripping of the oil can be seen during normal operation".
