I love this song. When I first heard it, it was on in Living Color at the end of the show. Guru was flowin. He is definitely missed in the rap game. RIP Keith Elam aka Guru.
I was 15 when this was out-Summer 93. White guy who loved hip hop and rnb My life at time was basically girls, friends and sports. That summer my family had a beach house in NJ shore and my two best friends stayed with us. My friends went to beach early and as I was getting ready to go,I was watching MTV Jams and this came on for the first time. I had already loved Gangstarr from years before and this was incredible. It was a different direction for him besides a few Gangstarr joints (Love sick). Anyway, when I got to the beach, I told my friends that I had just saw a new dope video from Guru solo album. One of those friends has been long gone-he passed in 2000 from drug overdose. It’s songs like these that remind me how great hip hop was back then but also the memories that are often tied to them. Rip Guru-you will always be hip hop royalty. And RIP to my once best friend Jay Wheels
This joint knocks. Jazzmatazz Vol. 1 is one of my favorite hip hop albums of all time. Guru's project of hip hop and jazz fusion was a resounding success. N'Dea has such a sweet melodic voice I can't understand how she didn't blow up like nitro.
How do any ‘Rappers’ or ‘hip hop artists of todays age call themselves lyrical wizards like Guru, Tribe Called Quest etc! What an embarrassment! And they think they are gangsters 😂😂😂😂😂
Guru was street but also definitely smooth; him and Ms. Davenport had dope chemistry on this track. rest in power Guru and peace to the Brand New Heavies. ‘93 was another dope year for hip hop, salute.
True story: Guru visited me in my dreams about a year ago and he didn't really say much but the setting was some type of business meeting w/what appeared to be Bad Boy Records and Guru basically let me know that no matter what I do in music.. stay true to myself and neve disregard the essence from which music comes from as far as hip hop is concerned.. then he walked off and I woke up 🙏🏾 #RestInPowerGuru 🕯
I remember hearing this on the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air when Will and Carlton had a party in their new apartment and Will was playing Monopoly with Michael Rapaport
Funny when i bought the tape originally as a teenager I thought this was trash....as my palette grew where im at age 40...this has become a work of art to me
I've just watched a repeat of Top of the Pops from 9/9/93 in which the "Breakers" featured ~10 secs of the chorus of this vid. Earlier in the show they had graphics for numbers 40 down to 11 over the video for DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince - Boom! Shake The Room and I exclaimed "Ooh, Guru!" when I spotted it as a New Entry...to then not have any Guru in the brief clip they played! I bet we don't get to hear it in full in the following episodes either. N’Dea Davenport's name wouldn't've meant anything to me at the time either as The Brand New Heavies' big hits with her, off their third album, Brother Sister, Dream On Dreamer & Midnight at the Oasis weren't until the following year. Thanks to Wiki, I'm now aware that their previous album (pre-N'Dea*), Heavy Rhyme Experience, Vol. 1, from 1992 is littered with quality hip-hop collabs, including Gang Starr on It's Gettin' Hectic and really ought to be on my list. I was only fourteen when that 9/9/93 show was originally aired and though I was heavily into hip-hop then, Guru & Gang Starr didn't find their way to me until Moment of Truth, but when the major music programme of those proto-internet days was skipping gold so blithely, it's easy to see how. EDIT: *One Wiki page (or it might've been a Twitter comment) had me thinking she wasn't involved for their first two albums and though their debut in 1990 had Jay Ella Ruth on vocals for three tracks, the US release in 91 had N'Dea on five and the international rerelease in 92 had her on seven (replacing Jay on all her tracks on both releases).
Mannnnnnnnn!!!!!! This track is like a time machine. This was one of and still one of my favorites from 93. Even though Brand Nubian's Gotta Love me or Leave me Alone came out in 92 , it still sticks out alot more in 93 for me. I can literally close my eyes while listening to these two tacks and find myself back in 93.
Funny when i bought the tape originally as a teenager I thought this was trash....as my palette grew where im at age 40...this has become a work of art to me
Indeed a work of art but shocked you felt that way even then when it first came out. This was the joint especially when just starting to vibe with a girl in JHS days that would turn into your "girlfriend".
When a real singer and a real rapper come together, magic happens. She is not just technically gifted but she has her own tone, a depth and a sweetness; Guru’s voice is truly one of the most memorable in hip hop, that slight rasp; the way he rides a beat is just so immaculate. So clean, so precise.
Man GURU was dope RIP... Love this song😎I saw Lina open up for Guru on the Jazzmatazz Tour in Europe and she sang this song with him,What a Beauty She is and they were Off the chain That night- The show was Lit!!!Ofcourse N'dea is Lovely as always in this Video💙#goodtimez..

Classic Hip Hop! R.I.P. Guru. Letting my 6 year old hear this track reminds me of how great your music was & still is. I pray your spirit is at peace with the Creator of all life. One love to his family, friends & of course the true Hip Hop fans out here in 2022.
I definitely remember this classic from summer ‘93…I had it on a cassette tape. I was 10, almost 11 at the time and was living in VA where I grew up…memories!!
Yeah bro hip hop was different back then. The artist were creative and had tremendous talent. The music was incredible although if you asked anybody growing up then, we just figured that it was the music of the time, not realizing that we were living in the golden era of hip hop and rnb in the 90s
Didn't know she was the singer from brand new heavies, now that i see the video i realize, what a great group is that, and Jazzmatazz is the best, what a great connection there.
I just discovered this track. First time listening, Second time listening. I end with the same results it’s dope! I loved the 90s Hip Hop! R.I.P. Guru!
Tooooooo many dope amazing music groups on the shelves of record stores in the 1990s! Many times I had no idea what to buy with the little money I had so i left empty handed to think it over in the mall food court! LOL!
Here because _Jazzmatazz_ turns 30 today. A timeless album that still holds up 30 years later. #RIPGuru
I love this song. When I first heard it, it was on in Living Color at the end of the show. Guru was flowin. He is definitely missed in the rap game. RIP Keith Elam aka Guru.
That was prob my first time too! Definitely appreciated how much real music In Living Color promoted!
I still listen to this song
This brings back memories. Summer 1993 at the age of 13... Makes me wanna shed tears.....REAL HIP HOP!!
Yo I was 20 and it does me the same way. Hip Hop can live pure without drugs sex and violence! We got to get it back!
+Me You -Yeah me too man. I miss this style of Hip-Hop. Also I was 13 in the summer of 1993.
I too was 13 in the summer in 93. Summertime in the hood was so much fun.
I was 8 gives me memories of my cousins from jersey coming down south to VA summer of 93 this joint was bangin
graduated high school 93 beautiful summer in Detroit
I was 15 when this was out-Summer 93. White guy who loved hip hop and rnb My life at time was basically girls, friends and sports. This song along with the video is so cool and smooth. I'm having a nostalgia panic attack right now.
This joint knocks. Jazzmatazz Vol. 1 is one of my favorite hip hop albums of all time. Guru's project of hip hop and jazz fusion was a resounding success. N'Dea has such a sweet melodic voice I can't understand how she didn't blow up like nitro.
Man, how did we go from this to the cesspool of music of 2022 ?!!
I’m still asking myself this today 1-30-2023 😂
Exactly
the cesspool of social media and its inhabitants perpetuating itself
How do any ‘Rappers’ or ‘hip hop artists of todays age call themselves lyrical wizards like Guru, Tribe Called Quest etc!
What an embarrassment!
And they think they are gangsters 😂😂😂😂😂
Guru the King
This made me remember how much I loved this song . RIP Guru
Agreed. Its funny how you can subconsciously crave a tune
Guru was street but also definitely smooth; him and Ms. Davenport had dope chemistry on this track. rest in power Guru and peace to the Brand New Heavies. ‘93 was another dope year for hip hop, salute.
RIP Gifted Unlimited Rhymes Universal.
Did I get wrong ?
^ i agree (Keith Elam is not forgotten!)
Love her voice...Great with the Brand New Heavies, excellent debut solo album.
She is really talented.
Gifted. Universally. Rhythms. Unlimited. = Guru..Check That.
One of my fav Guru classics! Shout out to N'Dea for adding to its greatness!
Pure classic , masterpiece by GURU
REST IN POWER GURU GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN
I remember hearing this on the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air when Will and Carlton had a party in their new apartment and Will was playing Monopoly with Michael Rapaport
I was at Coney Island hearing this song 🎵 memories
I feel like this whole album was severely slept on when it first came out.
Funny when i bought the tape originally as a teenager I thought this was trash....as my palette grew where im at age 40...this has become a work of art to me
The whole album is underrated

Wanna trust you babe (trust me)

Baby why don'tcha, honey why won'tcha
Accept the fact that it's not just the knack
That I care, so please let me share
Special moments, moments so rare
Check it out, if I could give you the world, you know I'd do it
Everything at your feet - ain't nothin to it
But it's hard sweetheart, and it's rough out here
But I doubt there, is anybody else for me
[N'Dea]
Trust me, I love you
Trust me, I need you
Trust me, I want you
Trust me..
Trust me, I love you
Trust me, I need you
Trust me, I want you
Trust me..
[Guru]
Mmm the things I feel, they are for real
I'm past the point of dwellin, on the sex appeal
Mad chicks sweat me, but I desire your womanness
Dude sweats you, but I'm the best
Listen, we could build a future together
No doll and I would never soup you ever, never
I'm buggin out, over the thought of you leavin
Tried to step to you, but now you're retreatin
[N'Dea]
Trust me, I love you
Trust me, I need you
Trust me, I want you
Trust me..
Trust me, I love you
Trust me, I need you
Trust me, I want you
Trust me..
I do believe you do care
To tell you the truth, I am scared
Some freaky people out there
You know?
Trust me, I love you
Trust me, I need you
Trust me, I want you
Trust me..
[Guru]
I sent you flowers and, I sat for hours and
Contemplated, the state of our affairs and I find there
Is no way out I'm in a love lock
The funny thing about it I don't wanna even stop, so
[N'Dea]
Trust me, I love you
Trust me, I need you
Trust me, I want you
Trust me..
Trust me, I love you
Trust me, I need you
Trust me, I want you
Trust me..
[Guru]
So now you know the flavor
It's not about the stuff I gave ya
And my behavior is based on strong
Feelings I have, of you and me, it's like a bond
A treasure, not to be corny but word
I wanna give you all the joy that you deserve
I know we argue, sometimes I start to annoy you
But we should never ever, try to destroy two
Hearts joined, intertwined with a passion
Give me a chance love, that's all I'm askin
And furthermore, you can be sure that I'll do
Every little thing you need, yes it's true
I'm not desperate, but I'm the one for you
[N'Dea]
Trust me, I love you
Trust me, I need you
Trust me, I want you
Trust me..
Trust me, I love you
Trust me, I need you
Trust me, I want you
Trust me..
Love is so risky y'know
I want you to do and show
Me all of you openly
Honestly..
I wanna trust you baby (trust me, I love you)
I wanna trust you baby (trust me, I need you)
I wanna trust you baby (trust me, I want you)
I wanna trust you baby (trust me)
I wanna trust you baby (trust me, I love you)
I wanna trust you baby (trust me, I need you)
I wanna trust you baby (trust me, I want you)
I wanna trust you baby (trust me)
I wanna trust you baby (trust me, I love you)
I wanna trust you baby (trust me, I need you)
I wanna trust you baby (trust me, I want you)
Wanna trust you babe (trust me)
I wanna trust you baby
I wanna trust you baby
I wanna trust you baby..
