Furnaces are Useful Sometimes if you get iron or gold in caves you need coal first alse you need a furnace to smelt them so you can craft armor or trade with the piglin especially for gold.
also a little unrelated but if you wanted to do the video again, you should have done a speedrun like "How Fast Can You Beat Minecraft WITHOUT Gaining XP?" thats my plan for a few months down the line after ive done a bunch more other challenges

when you smelt anything you get xp and its entirely unavoidable
