Marriage is a civil union under our laws. People can be legally married without any religious affiliation whatsoever. The fact that religions have weaseled their way into marriage isn't any reason for it to dominate the laws surrounding it. No two people can get married in any religious institution without a civil law issued license. Old traditions are also not a reason to keep doing something that society has outgrown and realizes makes no sense.
